The best pdf to look for on the google is The North - Guide to the Savage Frontier. TSR 1142.

They used to give it away free on the Wizards website but the links have all gone to live on a farm by now, it seems. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dn ... 8a&pf=true

That has a bit about the people who live in the North (Around the Icewind Dale area). In the "People" bit, one of the sections is about the Uthgart and goes into a bit of detail about the various tribes and their histories and ancestor mounds and leaders and totems. And the "Religion" bit goes into some detail about Ulutiu worshiping Ice Hunters, who are also totemic. There is also another book called The Great Glacier if you're interested in these suspiciously eskimo-type guys.
