So, it seems my CD key is being used by someone else. I do not know how they got it since the keys I've been using came from old CDs I bought a few years ago. I am a little concerned that my characters may be archived or be used maliciously by this new user.

If some admin or DM can look in to this if its just a bug or an actual issue with a new user, I have screenshots of the current players logged in on A where I couldn't get in.

I suggest making a new topic in the main part of General Discussion, it might get more attention there.

Pm me your login name etc and I'll check.

This issue has crept up twice now. Both times I encountered this again, I made screenshots of current logins. I really can't tell if its my side or the server that still thinks I am either logged on still or someone else has a copy of my old CD keys from disc.

Any suggestions I can do to check from my end?

First time login today and got this one again. I've made screenshots each time this happens so that I can compare the list of players logging in who may have the same CD key as me.

Tried logging in to B and I get the same message again. I suspect my key has been compromised by a keygen since I had the discs a long time ago. Right now, I have a good guess on which player it is and if a DM would kindly check I can give my suspicions via PM.

EDIT: I have a screenshot of current players logged in on B if that helps too.

I was finally able to talk to a DM about this 4-5 hours ago and the issue is just getting weirder.

The CD keys that I am using do not have any similarities with my suspect but somehow the server sees that we have the same CD key. I've also noticed that the system will randomly log me out back to the main menu while logged in to another server opposite of the player that I suspect.

Out of curiosity, I tried changing my player name and I am able to see the other users character from another server but when trying to enter the game boots me. Of course, when i try to login to the same server the suspect player is on I get the message that the player name is already in use.

So, without really much to do at this point, it seems I have to play an OOC game of who logs in first between me and the other player.

If you have 10 bucks, you could always re-buy the game from GOG.com. They can send you a new CD key at that point, and your characters can just be transferred to the new key. This is a very odd problem, unfortunately. Well, it's an odd problem now. When the master server was online, you could just add a module to your nwn folder to lock your cd key to a particular port or IP address. That would ensure that only you could use that cd key. I don't believe that's possible with our current configuration.

From what you've been able to discern with the staff, you and this other player have two different keys, but the server is recognizing them as the same? Did the DM say anything about how our cd keys are bound to the server? I don't have any knowledge of how that works topside. If there's not a way to just remove your cd key and re-enter it, or if that's been tried and didn't succeed, I'd say you're going to need a new key. If that's the case, I'd be willing to bet I can help you with that, if you don't want to spend the money.

From what I can determine with DM confirmation, that's correct.

No, not in detail. However, I forgot to mention that this specific player is using a pirated key that has been used over the years. The DM asked me for the public key of CD1 and CD2 (not the whole thing) and CD3 (but just the first four but I gave 5 instead after looking at the logs). Of course, this might be just a bug with the server but its difficult to do anything unless some time and effort is made for what looks like a trivial issue between two players.

Not sure what you mean by re-entering the CD key. You mean removing the ini file and manually enter the CD keys?

Looks like this issue has crept up again. I made a screenshot of logged in players on Amia A. I've been too busy and missed out on a free copy of the game late last year since the CD keys from the old CDs I bought years ago appear to be compromised already.

I really doubt someone is repeatedly stealing your CDkeys.

document the people on the server each time you cant log in, process of elimination and a large enough sample size will tell you who has an overlapping key with yours.

I heard about this happening to another player like a week ago. They said it gave them the message someone logged in with their CDkeys and then they could suddenly log in again when trying minutes later. Though I only heard about it from this one person .. so either it's a freak accident, you two somehow got the same keys, or there's a really odd bug going on. They're a relatively newer player and I'm not sure how active you've been in the past few weeks that they've been here. Thus I'm not sure if you two have ever been online at the same time or not but idk. I don't think it's happened to them since.

Sounds like it might relate. I'll send them a message.

This is actually a bug that very occasionally pops up, and has for years. It doesn't mean someone stole your keys. It just means that ope, NWN doesn't know what else to say about why you can't connect, so it picks that one from its list of errors. It's always been a weird connection bug and it sometimes fixes itself or if you're impatient you can shut down your computer, restart your router/modem, and then turn your computer back on. You'll be able to get in again.

It's happened to me I think three times in ten years and I was told about the bug the first time it happened. Every time a router reset fixed it - didn't always need to reset the computer, but it's okay to overdo it just to be safe.

So it's most likely this weird bug.

The CDkey hash you have will be the same as someone else, if the CDkey combination is already in use by someone else.

The DM's can check that for you easily, and even see who is using the same hash you are. Not sure they wanna get involved in that battle, but they could at least rule out that someone is ninja'ing your keys.
