The sidebar lies. Or, is vague. "An assassin level", not "first assassin level". You get it on level two, and only the first of the techniques. And every two levels the next one.
Oh crap. Seriously? If that's true my whole build plan is blown. Reading that I assumed you get each attack type on the ODD levels, meaning you'd get Murder at 17th. If it's actually EVEN levels and 18th I'll have to scrap the whole thing and start over.
Why is this class feature written so vaguely? Every other class and their features are spelled out clearly by level. You get this spell at this level. You get this progression of this ability by level. There is no way anyone reading the Assassin section in plain english would interpret the description to mean even levels. "an Assassin level" is not plural. I have "an Assassin level".

Yes. From what I understand with my Assassin it works that way. Meaning if you want Murder you'll get it at Level 18. If I recall correctly you have to find the instructor IG to even get the Tools. You don't just "get the tools" once you level. You'll just grow qualified to talk to the hidden instructor.
EDIT: I assume the "Widget" is like a clearance card giving you permission to speak to the Instructor. Like a Shifter and their instructors, or a Blackguard.. e.t.c
Thanks guys. At least I know to scrap this build before investing dozens of hours into it, since I cannot get the feat I was aiming for. This can probably be closed now.

(No tells for Rashad while I'm playing other characters please.)
The other thing that wasn’t clear is how you USE the ability. You apply the ability with the widget that much is clear and there’s a duration also clear. The fact it can be used once per turn is also clear but you don’t seem to get the ability to choose when it’s used. It seems to just happen without being player controlled. So if it activates on an attack that kills your opponent via normal damage it’s wasted. In contrast, you direct the attack with, for example, Stunning Fist.
It has a cooldown in effect but doesn’t operate like one. It’s more like “you get 1 special attack per turn out of your 30-60 attacks but don’t try to figure out which one it’s going to be”.
I had gone into this thinking it was player actuated. If I’m wrong on this please let me know.
Having some descriptive words clarifying the above would also be good!
