On a lighter note, I just realized I misspelled the name of the hurricane when I wrote this up and the title was calling it Hurricane Metthew. Dunno why I had meth on the mind; someone might have mentioned Pasco County.
Matthew is now 100 miles ESE of West Palm Beach. No change in max sustained winds. Movement slowed slightly to 13 mph.

Winds are picking up a bit here on the west central FL coast. Nothing major, but gusts are hitting in the low 20s in some areas.
*sigh* And so it begins. Had to cancel a session tonight due to weather. Have a wedding on Saturday, thankfully, it's all indoors, but... there's always the hope for some outdoor photos here in Florida.
CCL, I'd say come here, but, we have so many pets that we might have problems without a zoo permit if you did. Stay safe.

Told to evacuate. Can't. Have no where to take my pets. I'm staying home. Last time, with Ivan, had people driving around after the storm ended casing houses to rob. I met them in the front yard with my AR-15. Will be doing that again should anyone be stupid enough to try to rob the place. Seriously; the roads here are already flooding out, traffic is at standstill in many areas and the entire town is out of gas. Just going to ride it out at home and hope for the best. It's hitting in the morning here. Love to you all and be safe out there.
Seriously, stay safe yourself! Probably a stupid thing to say but what else can those of us do just watching this unfold than say such things, be concerned and worry!

Still here. T-minus three hours before its dead over me. Power has tweaked a few times but still holding. Roads in town flooded out, St. Johns River has swelled over the docks. Something hit my roof HARD about twenty ago but I am so not going outside to see what. Luckily no roof leaking yet. Will keep as safe as possible. Our local Wal Mart and Dollar Store on the corner are staying open through the storm for people to take shelter and get any emergency supplies.
One hour to go. Lights flickering, winds BAD and the rain is so heavy my yard and driveway are flooded out. Something just hit the roof again so hard that bits of the ceiling stuff came down. No leaks though, thankfully.

it's been hours since the eye was over you
you ok ccl?
edit; invasion of privacy time if any of you all got a way to get a hold of her outside the game please do it and at least report back with a binary 'is ok' 'is not ok'
We're under the eye of it right now. Power is back up for the moment. Rains are still heavy and the winds...wiiiinds *Cues Gary Oldman in Brahm Stoker's Dracula*.....the winds are fierce out there. I've got some property damage that's visible from just looking out the window but no one is hurt and even my neighbors are safe, and that's all that matters. If the Weather Channel is right then I'll be completely clear of this in about four hours. There's a huge tree that came down last night in all sorts of pieces (all that crashing I heard), and more stuff out in the front yard but hopefully that will be it. I'll have to climb up on the roof later to ensure no damage up there. Thanks for the thoughts/prayers everyone! <3
Update: A lot of felled trees, power lines are sagging and down in some areas and the rivers are all overflowing but so far, we're all alive out here. Eye is out at sea now and we're just riding out the tail end. Winds are still wicked but I am gonna slink outside quick to make sure there's no baby possums or squirrels etc out there hurt.
Already had one and unfortunately, even the best evacuation plans won't work when the roads are jammed. I've made it through worse storms (and lived overseas where typhoons were a far too common occurrence). I always keep emergency supplies on hand, have a fall back plan and am just glad my area isn't hit nearly as hard as originally predicted.
Um....11 cats, 3 dogs, 2 finches and a turtle and one of the dogs is more of a Clydesdale than a dog. Trust me. Safer at home but thanks for the concern!

what would you have done if your house started to collapse because there was 6+ feet of standing water on the ground
Commie, please stop. Trust me, I'm a grown woman who does have an evac plan. I've lived through worse storms and I'm no fool. Thank you for your concern.

Seriously.. Commie.. Some of your comments here aren't helpful. Especially for the individuals worrying enough about the safety of their family and themselves.
According to this it's now in Virginia, which is being hit pretty hard. I spent some time in Reston and Herndon Virginia, I hope they're okay down there.
It's expected to go East-North-East from there, but if it veers up the coast... I'm rather worried. No one's said it would hit the tri-state area but that doesn't mean it won't. Worst part is no one seems to have a plan up here in case that does happen.
