It's been a rough four days, it was touch and go for a while among the populace... Sinfar was mentioned in hushed whispers... but praise be, praise be that the gods that be have restored life to this great forum once more!

There's been some issues due to ownership/management change of the server company.

Is it an issue with paying the rent? If it keeps Amia up and running, I'm more than happy to click the donate thingymajig.

There is no issue with paying the rent currently.

However, we will likely soon rent a new server with one of the current team taking over. This has the advantages of being quicker, more modern (also with security etc.) and of course relieving Disco of the burden to always have to run to fix stuff for something he hasn't really been part of anymore for years now. (though we are very greatful he aided us this long).

The downside will be that the newer servers (you can't even rent something so "small" anymore, realistically) will also be a bit more expensive to maintain. (worry not we're not speaking of incredible fortunes here :-P

)

Anyways, when the time comes, it will be carefully planned (ideally with the old server still running for another week or two, just in case), information of date etc. will be provided, aswell as monthly costs revealed and new donation options listed. Donations will remain 'optional'.

Anyways, the details will be listed when they are hashed out completely.

This btw. is nothing new and not related to this current issue. We have been speaking of this for a while now already.

P.S. no this won't change the cybering and graphic torture rules.

Would a new server, and better access to it also result in more available opportunity to update the HAK? I've never quite understood what the main restriction was that resulted in the HAK(s) being so difficult to update, I simply just accepted that it was difficult and never questioned why.

Yeah I'd like to add my comment regarding rent on facebook was me misinterpreting speculation as fact, which I'd like to redact now! Sorry for the confusion!

New server wouldn't affect our desire to formulate a new HAK pack. Compiling HAKs is long and tedious, making sure there are no clashes etc. Not a simple copypaste job sadly!

We simply don't have someone who can or is willing to handle the hak right now. It is a huge undertaking and hundreds of man hours involved.

NWN has a rather odd file system which can make learning how to "update" the HAK rather difficult unless you know how. Other then that, main issue is just forcing everyone to come to the forum to download the update, which on such on old community shouldn't really be much of an issue.

Well let's say it took Pony about 120-160 hrs for the last hak. And that was not even calculating the side stuff that was done by Eurgiga, PS and others.

SO this only involved fiddling existing stuff apart, putting stuff together, sorting etc. and does not even touch the subject of custom changing classes etc.

We simply do not really have anyone who has the time/capacity AND knowledge at the same time to do it.

While smaller updates may be an option, that does not mean it is quickly done. It is still a lot of work to make it fit in smoothly, test and make sure it does not make the whole construct crumble like a card-house.

Ahh I see. Thanks for explanation. I heard that Terallis is pining (and is capable) to work on the HAK. Maybe reach out to him and see what options you have, even if it takes yonks, its potentially a starting point for more hands on deck.

Curious. What type of class changes are you after HAK wise? I know my way around the system a bit. Sure I could brush up if needed.

i've been using this service for a long time and never donated, which is really unlike me.
