Welcome! Here are some tips that you might want to know early on when playing on Amia! Adventuring Guild:Quote: In North Cordor, there is a place called the Rusty Hoe Inn. Upstairs there is a NPC merchant that sells some pretty useful items you might want to take a look at, especially early on (including but not limited to belts that give resistance to damage types). Poison Immunity:Quote: Early level, you might eventually end up having to fight creatures that inflict poison (including in one of the very early / very rewarding dungeons). You might want to get your hand on an item that gives immunity to poison. Many will buy a purple dragon ring (sold by other PCs to Hil'rash at an expensive price). However, there is a cheaper, less random alternative. In Khem (on server B, Ne'sek) there is a cathedral where they sell a helmet on the second floor that has immunity to poison and disease. The helmet is much cheaper, and equally effective. "Free" Heal Trick:Quote: Healing can become expensive early on. However, not many seems to know there actually is a very cheap item you can buy that will save you thousands of gold coins. In Ne'sek (Khem), there is a cathedral in which you can buy a small trinket item with "cure minor wounds: unlimited" for like 600 gold. This might not look like much, but that thing will save you a lot of cash if you use it between fights, especially if you are using damage resist items. The static 4 HP heal will cover the odd crits that do damage your character despite the belts' damage resist. Teleporting Wand:Quote: Everyone starts with a wand item that can teleport you to places. You can bind to locations, for free, by clicking on crystal nodes. These are found everywhere on the server and can be switched around back and forth with no penalty. If you know you are going to teleport back to a place often, do not hesitate to bind to it - even if it is for temporary needs. You can increase the number of locations you can bind to and recharge them by using mythals. You do so by using a mythal item on your wand (to recharge), and by using a mythal on your wand while standing near a mythal forge (to improve the wand) - ask around in-game to find out where those are! Mythals:Quote: As you kill stuff, you might eventually drop a pink/purple misc item called "Mythal". These have varying level of quality, but they all serve the same purposes. You can use mythals to increase the number of teleport charges you have on your teleporting wand, AND you can also use them to add bonuses to your gear. These are valuable to everyone, including high level PCs (yes, even the low quality mythals), so if you have plenty of them you can actually sell them to other players for some pretty nice early cash. It is very unlikely that you will need the lower quality of mythals for gear anyway, so they are wand charge fodders. You will also find out that some players might also even trade very valuable items for X number of mythals... do not waste nor underestimate the value of that item! Bone Wands:Quote: You will also eventually loot "bone wands". These misc item may seem useless, but do not be fooled by their 1gp price tag. These wands are very valuable to some players, so do not hesitate to open shop in game and sell them to other players for some very good early gold (I am bad with numbers and don't know the current prices, but I remember people used to pay 10k for blank bone wands on the regular back in the days). Alternatively, keep them if you are a caster and plan on taking the "Craft Wand" feat - "improved invisibility wands" and "Death Ward wands" are absolute money makers. Blank Pages:Quote: Same thing here. You will eventually find a beige page called "Blank Scroll". That thing can also sell to other players, do NOT waste them to a NPC - you can easily get 5000gp each if you find the right player. Armor Types Adjustments:Quote: In vanilla nwn, only the fullplate, clothes and padded armor are worth using. On Amia, all armor types have been adjusted to give the same total armor as the fullplate / padded armor. For example, a studded leather armor would normally give 3 armor + up to 4 AC due to dexterity bonus, but on Amia, that armor will now give 3 base armor and up to 6 AC through dexterity score. Party Advertiser:Quote: Every players start with a misc item called the party advertiser. That item can be used on the ground to know who is looking for a party... granted that they used the item on themselves first to make it known they are looking for a party! Do not hesitate to use the item on yourself and, who knows, maybe someone will private message you and ask to join your party. Dream Coins (DC):Quote: When participating in events, or when being caught by a DM displaying good roleplay skills, you will sometimes receive a "DC". These are Dream Coins, and they are quite useful. You can use the coins to burn for exp / levels (meh), but you can also use them to request special things using the request part of the forum. These special things can range from cosmetics to gear, and even special unique abilities or feats. You will also find a green misc item in your inventory that can be used on other players to signal to the DMs that that person, you think, might deserve a Dream Coin for their roleplaying efforts. It is usable once per reset (I think), and it might be worth using from time to time. Discord:Quote: There is a Discord server for Amia. Many players are on it, and they are pretty much all willing to help and answer questions. Beware of trolling dragon chicks and moustached merchants!

Some added tips;
Most of the players here are emotionally sensitive and can hard to play with with certain personality types. If feelings and emotions are not your thing, then this may not be the server for you guys.

I will strongly shoot against what TLD said there. While some courtesy towards other players is expected, we only expect such to reasonable degrees and no one should feel like they are walking on eggshells and in such cases we do recommend players with severe emotional issues not to play on this server as it can be a stressful environment.

My opinion on the matter as well. With the added notion that it's tended to be as non-drama an environment as humanly possible.

Further support for what Tarnus said above, this is a very accepting and low OOC drama server. I’ve received answers to nearly every call for aid I’ve ever made and I’ve made fast friends in both RP and grinding groups. I don’t notice a proprensity to hurt feelings or anything other than really OOC laid back and friendly feelings.

The community here is fine, the fact that you're throwing shade in what's meant to be a guide for new members of the community is telling though.

Every newbie's bible:
do your speedy's
get kits
get ghostly pots
if you have low lvl UMD get flame wep scrolls
save for the three 5/- dmg belts, pierce first, then slash, bludge is a luxury, wear pierce pirmarily so between that and ghostly you can just be immune to ranged attacks, daggers, and shortswords
look for rando-magic gear, you just need 1 piece with 5/- negative on it, keep it for grinding darkhold
do the same for 5/- acid for gibberlings if you wanna do those
romp kobolds until you can romp darkhold and that will hold you until almost lvl 10

Tormak’s guide is pretty much the meta for starting off and can help you greatly!
There’s a +1 random item shop in Kampo’s (cart from north cordor - bendir, then cart from bendir - Kampo’s). The npc is called Shady Merchant and some of the random gear can really help you.

I still think the best advice on an RP server is to learn by communication and roleplay. This also open the opportunity of getting friends and companions.

Tip for new players:
Don't be afraid to ask questions. Almost everyone here is super nice and will OOC help you learn what you need and ICly find what your Character needs. The ones who aren't super nice are simply nice. Mostly. You might not get stabbed. Likely. [J/K]
Don't be afraid to join roleplay. It may seem like everyone know's what's going on; or is deep in in-depth roleplay. You're OOCly not intruding by roleplaying. Come up. Roleplay.
If someone is and Ass IC, they usually aren't OOC. Sometimes characters are rude or mean or evil. This doesn't mean the player is.
You don't have to be perfect. Your character development doesn't have to be mapped out. You don't have to know how to do everything IC and OOC. We're all people, even the characters in a way, and it is okay for them and us to make mistakes. Don't get discouraged.
It's okay to get frustrated. By leveling. By getting killed. By roleplay. By life out of the game. It happens. Again we're human. As long as you try not to take it out on others, or if something happens, communicate with people. We've all been there.
If something weird is happening. . . screenie it. There is no reason for anyone to OOCly feel weird playing here. If there is a dispute, weird vibes, anything. Poke a DM IG if they are there, Screenie the situation if not... actually screenie it anyways. It will document anything that happens and show what you have witnessed. Take it to a DM. It is important to feel comfortable and safe.
These are my tips. Hope they help someone.

If you see a Purple Dragon Ring or other items you can use to make yourself immune to poison, grab it. It'll be handy for spider farming later.
Once you've got +1 things, go to Wharftown for +2.
Once you've +2 things, go to Kohlingen or Shadowscape for +3/+4.
If you're a mage, visit Ralten's Retreat in Endir's point and talk to an old man in there for spell scrolls and gear.
Monks should visit the Dragon's Claw (in Cordor), Lemur Monastery (NE of Bendir) and Ruhn Monastery at Brogendenstein depending on how much monk levels they achieve for more techniques and gear. Monks who want to walk a "normal" speed can ask a DM for a widget that lets them do so.
Endgame gear can be bought in the Gauntlet of Terror on Brogendenstein and the Temple at the end of the Abyss. Sometimes a DM runs the Djinni market which offers better items. The best items come from Epic Bosses (rarely).
