Over the past tenday or so, there have been strange, subterranean rumblings felt throughout various locales in Amia's forested areas. At first, the shuddering effects were felt only in the western region of the forest, then in the area between the arachnid valley and Bendir Dale. More recently, the vibrations have been noted to take place nearer to Green Lake and the hills occupied by the mylocks.

The people who often travel within the forest's confines have been noted passing on different rumors. Some say the rumblings are merely the land shifting slightly. Some say it could be signs of slight volcanic activity (though this is passed off as largely unfounded). Some claim the vibrations are caused by a hive of formians. Some claim it's just more signs of the so-called "Undoer" moving about again.

What is the truth of the matter? Only those who investigate will know the real story.

Forestsong had spent much of the day with Crow in the forest teaching him how to track animals and live off the land when the quakes started. She knew of the formians and their strange behavior since the Eilistraeen highhunt, but still she went to investigate even after the voice had penetrated her head and told her to leave. The caves were completely empty and void of life and the two quickly progressed to what was the egg chamber, and that's when all hells broke lose.

Three holes formed around them and the two were swarmed by formians. They fought valiantly enough but the numbers were just to great and both fell. forestsong awoke to find crow next to her and that they were surrounded by formians in a chamber she never seen before. Forestsong and Crow attempted diplomacy with the formians but they had little to say just that the hunting would stop or the "two leggers" would face dire consequences.

The two told the formians that they would deliver the message, if they were released, the formians balked at this and said simply the two would leave when he said they would. Forestsong spoke to Crow in elven "nice try Crow" and for that she was punished. The formians lashed out at her mind for speaking the "secret language" forestsong fell to her knees holding her head trying to clear her mind to no avail. Forestsong tried to warn them of the curious nature of the "two leggers" and how if anything happened to them, surely more would come. She spoke of the balance and how the formians did not belong on this plane but the formian ignored it and finally released them.

*Tyger, who has been hunting the forests of late to gather food for herself and her young one has noticed the rumblings. Having run into the undoer on several occasions she watches wearily for any signs. As a monk of great training, she uses every bit of her ki to try and sense anything that might be out of place. And to enhance this she takes to her Dire Tiger form talking now in ToSaM (Tongue of Sun and Moon) to -all- creatures of any form to try and find what they know of the strange ground trembles, along with any things that may be ... odd?*

*She now travels to each new location of tremblings that she hears about looking, sniffing, and -feeling- with her enhanced ki along with her ToSaM talks to all creatures, from wandering adventurers to the rats and mice of the fields, that she comes across.*

*As Tyger reaches the mylock hills she comes across an old friend, Tuta. After an exchange of pleasantries and hugs, Tyger explains to Tuta about the ground rumblings and her desire to find its source.*

*Together they head into the mylock cavern seeking an audience with the high mage. As the Mylocks are known to do they are instantly attacked, but, per their agreement they merely passively resist. Tuta knocking down those who attack him and Tyger freezing their lifeblood, both of them causing as little harm as possible. Regardless now of the numbers of Mylocks swarming around them they maintain their efforts. Tyger now nearly screaming to be heard to first one mage then another in her monk style ToSaM* "We come in peace! Seeking an audience with the high mage! I know you have felt the rumblings below the ground! Please! We merely wish to help find what they are and how to stop them!"

Toby grinned, it's not evey day you speak to an alien creature. Formians the elves had called them, Ant-o-taurs he would forever remember them as. During the forest quake he searched for a cause, eventually tracking it Dow. To the area where one of the elves he had once traveled with said ant-beasts lived. Man was he sure glad he never harmed them before and boy was he never going to unless they attacked him first. Darn thing greeted and spoke, scolded and banished. Quite the talkative fellow for the hive mind. Rather informative as well. Between that and his talking to the elves, he had much to think about. "Should likely tell Lyam if'n I see 'im and remember to... 'en again, the Dale may up an evacuate soon anywho. Bes' wait till 'en."

In an odd change of events, most of the tremors felt throughout the forest lands (to include those areas around Green Lake and further south toward the mylock hills and Wyrmhold) seems to have ceased. Most.

However, they continue in the western reaches of the forest, and have now moved slightly into the forest's northwestern region, as well. They seem most heavily concentrated in the cliff areas between the the old ruins in the southern part of the area and a little-known, peaceful grove dedicated to several deities of nature. The rumblings here are now quite a bit more frequent since the outermost affected areas have gone silent. It is quite obvious some unknown activity underground (and perhaps within the cliffs, themselves) has picked up in speed and intensity.

As for those who chose to interrogate the mylocks....they recevied no answers. Either the mylocks are just as clueless as anyone else, or they refuse to let on what they know. Either way, they don't stop to chat with those who come barging into their territory.

The tremors in all parts of the forest had noticeably stopped for a few hours. When they began again, it was to a much lesser extent than before, and shortly after they started, a smallish patch of grass in the most well-travelled area of the forest was seen to rise and be pushed aside as a small squad of formians rose up from below, escorting a handful of "two-legs" back to the surface. It was apparent to those who witnessed their arrival, by a few words spoken and overall mannerisms of both formians and humanoids, that there had been some sort of meeting down below.

Not all of the witnesses to the formian escort were thrilled with this revelation.

Without much further discussion on their part, the formian escorts, led by one particularly imposing formian with a brilliant, elaborately decorated bronze helm, descended back down into the tunnel, collapsing it back in on itself as they returned to their hive.

Soon after, however, a much stronger rumbling was felt coming from below the western forest region. Immediately folowing this earth-jarring quake, smaller tremors were felt once more in all regions of the forest. These tremors, however,
moved. They all began at the exact same time, and appeared to move in concentric, shrinking circles as they all converged back toward a central point - the epicenter of the recent quake....

==============================================================

Some time later, the same, imposing figure of the formian warrior with the elaborate helm reappeared, tunnelling up from below to the very point where the recent drop-off of the humanoid delegation had been made. Appearing with it this time were three other warriors, in various state of injury. Their carapices were cracked in several places, and they appeared also to have received horrific burns to most of their exoskeletons.

As their presence was noticed, various denizens and visitors to the forest began to crowd around them. The myrmarch commander, seeming uninjured to onlookers, then gave a simple statement.

"I want you all to look at what your kind has done to my people."

As its insectile, alien voice clicked out the words in the common tongue, it gestured back to the three warriors behind him. They stood in stoic silence, their gazes on their leader. The pain from their injuries was obvious, as was the strength of their discipline in bearing such pain while their commander spoke.

The reactions of the onlookers was as varied as their races. Some wanted to heal the injuries the warriors had been inflicted with. Others cried for the "insects" to go back to their home plane, where they belong. A few insisted on hearing this commander's words, while others demanded the formians return to their hive immediately.

All at once, the four formians turned their attention to a single person, an elven figure sheathed in magical defenses. The myrmarch became visibly agitated as it glared toward this individual. A small figure approached the myrmarch and murmured to it while making calming gestures. Another individual approached as well, also lowering her voice to address the formian group's leader.

Whatever was said between them is known only between them, and whoever they may have later shared the information with. However, long moments passed as the formians continued to glare toward the elven individual. More heated words were spoken, some of the onlookers suggesting or demanding the formians should leave the forest's environs; the suggestions citing a wish to see no more blood spilled this day, the demands being just that - demands.

The three formians turns as one to descend back into the tunnels below, while the myrmarch remained behind, alone. It continued to glare toward the elven figure for long moments. Suddenly, it clasped its head between its hands, its "knees" nearly buckling beneath it as it writhed in agony before the onlookers.

One individual, the sun elven elder known as Meldrium, made a comment.
"It is being punished by its queen. This one is insubordinate."

Long moments passed as the formian was wracked in obvious pain. When it began to subside, it turned its gaze on Meldrium, giving the elder a glare almost as heated as the other elf had received. Then, without another word, the myrmarch turned back to descend into the tunnel, once more collapsing the subterranean passage in on itself as it went.....

The smallest of the figures had been swathed in many hues of green. She had been involved with the Formians for hours before as they had held meetings with the Groves leadership. When they had all errupted from the earth the meeting that had followed had been tense enough as it was. Many of those that claimed to follow the path of the Balance wishing to simply strike out at the Formians for their temerity and extent of their threats.
But sanity and reason had prevailed as the motley group of Formians, servants of nature, adventurers and general hangers on had drifted apart once more and peace had reigned under the lofty boughs of Amia forest. At least for a time…

Most of the Druids were already strung out by those events and many had drifted off in different directions when the larger quake had shook the ground of the forest. There had been much discusion then over wether to investigate the source of the tremors or not. But a consensus was finally reached as a small but select deputation has headed out through the Western paths of the forest and gathered around one small entrance to the tunnels below…

Belladonna, one of the shortest of her race, had looked at the entrance and then at those of their company. She had shaken her head at the thought of what might have occurred down in the depths, but her musings were interrupted by another group finding their way to the same place. It was then a voice had whispered to her and she had looked up into the dark depths of Forestsongs hood. A quick conversation and a few castings later and Bella was dropping down nimbly into the hole.
The tunnels below were filled with rubble and what looked to be spoil heaps from the Formians excavations into their new tunnels. It made her job of staying hidden much easier, but the footing was treacherous and she had to be careful with each and every step.
The air was laced with the smell of smoke, but it was faint as yet and not likely to give her breathing any difficulty. She stopped at each entrance to a new tunnel and slowed her breathing as she extended her awareness outwards. Her ears picking up faint alien chatter down the tunnels but she could barely hear them let alone understand them.
She would not admit it, not to anyone, but her heart was beating so hard that it felt it would break out of her ribcage and that surely the Formians would be able to hear the pounding of that muscle that in her own ears sounded like the thud of drums. But stealing her resolve and taking a deep breath she made her way to the lower network of tunnels that led to the old queens chamber. She had stopped there and agonised for some time over whether or not to proceed. She knew that those above would be waiting for answers of some description and there was no way her pride would let her back down now.

The queens old chamber was a wreck, the stone floor had been wrenched open and deep cracks and fissures were in the ground. She could glimpse the area beneath and it looked like it had been used as some kind of staging area. Being brought from it were the bodies of lifeless Formians, ten, twenty, thirty she counted them off easily. Several more oversaw the work, including the one Myrmarch that seemed to hold leadership over the immediate area. The air had still been hot, stifling hot and the stone looked as if it had been melted in places as if from a great and terrible heat. Who or whatever the perpertrator had been there was no sign of…

She had judged that she had seen more than enough then and had hastily made her way back up the tunnels to fill the others in on what had occurred...

The Druids had their suspicions over who had been responsible for the attack, but they had no way to prove it beyond a few hints and signs. Two had left the gathering to go and track down the suspect whilst the others had stood watch for a while over the tunnels entrance. But Bella was impatient, she felt a fear for her home knowing that hers was the closest major settlement to the Formians hive of activity. She feared for her people. It was not long before she found herself reaching for her wand and rushing back to the gathering area as fast as she could.

The suspect had denied any kind of involvement with the incident but Bella had her own thoughts which she kept to herself and resolved to keep a close eye on the individual in the future. It was not long before the tunnels had openend up again and the same survivors of the attack she had seen down below had appeared from the ground. Most of the Druids had already left to go and recover themselves from the days trials and Bella found herself and only one other to talk with them.
She had hurried over as quickly as she decently could and dropped her hood as a sign of respect and given them a bob of her head in respect. But before she could say anything their leader spoke and the hurt and rage was clear, even in its insectile tones. She had ushered calming words, even as the appearance of Meldrium had made her inwardly groan and she felt sure that a fight was about to break out.

But by some miracle one did not, even though the Formians had stared for long moments at the same suspect the druids had identified, she had moved to place herself between the leader and the individual to try in any way she could to stop violence from breaking out. She could feel the weariness in her body by now, it had been a long day and one that had tired her out like she had never felt before. But she was being fuelled by a sense of duty now. She had arranged a peace between her home and the Formians, it was fragile at best she knew but she had made the deal and she would stand by it. The best way of keeping that deal was to make sure that a war did not start between the tallers and the Formians and she would do her very best to stop that from happening, lest her home become the first casualty of the war.

She had breathed a sigh of relief when the Formians at last departed, her body had slumped and how she had kept standing was anybodies guess. It was soon after she had made her excuses and headed home for the Dale, but it was not to sleep, it was to the meeting of her folk in the hopes further confusion could be avoided…

Later the next day Belladonna returned to the tunnel with several of her folk and had set up camp near the hole and screening it from sight of the curious passers by.
Anyone that looked would just see a convivial group of halflings staring jokes and stories and hopefully never suspect what might be hidden there.
But something nagged at the back of Belladonna’s mind. Something about the Formians she still did not trust. She knew she had to make a trip and it would not be one that brought back pleasant memories for her. Not pleasant at all…

At a quiet time of the night, Lona walks out through the darkened forest and places fern leaves and tree branches around the entrance to try and conceal it. Doing this a few times, when she encounters the group of halflings, she watches quietly from a distance, and smiles hearing their happy voices and seeing them also work to cover the entrance. She walks back to the grove.

The halfling looks behind her at the rising sun, she knows it will be a while before she sees it again as she takes her last breath of fresh air and slips down into the orc caves to take paths that few people that wander above know of. Her eyes take a few minutes to adjust to the gloom as she wont risk any artificial light down here. Keeping to the sides of the tunnels she makes her way slowly along the twisting network that threads through the dark underground that so many of folk above live their lives in blissful ignorance of.
But Belladonna knew it, she knew of it all to well and something that would still haunt her in the nights when she was tired or strung out. But she knew that at the end of this trip she would feel much better for completing her task. She could not bring herself to trust the Formians any more than she could the gaggle of adventurers and hangers on that might decide to start a fight because they were bored.
It still rankled though, she had promised herself she would never come down this way again, never descend into the darks where her mind had been prized apart by cruel and calculating hands. Several times she has to stop in secluded areas and will herself to get a grip and keep making her way forwards. Each step feeling heavier than the last as she is slowly swallowed by the depths of the ground…

Its some time later that she finds herself exiting from a cavern and into the city of underport and dressed as a ragged and dirty halfling from her appearance. Making her way over the bridges, then ducking out to her right down a side passage as she seeks out one tinkerer in particular.
A brief conversation follows and a number of barrels are rolled out only for them to disappear inside her ever present and handy bag. Precious gems exchange hands in payment for them and Belladonna is only to pleased to find a quiet corner and portal herself away from the clinging darkness. She only hoped she would never have to use them…

Amidst the peace of the forest Belladonna settles back and closes her eyes for a bit. She is not worried about anyone trying to sneak up on her as in the tree boughs above the sleek shape of a falcon watches over the ground below. One whom Bella had managed to persuade to aid in keeping the peace of this place.
Her small camp has grown in the time she had gotten back, now a small and carefully managed fire was burning and carried the scent of slowly cooking stew on the wind. But the local residents knew better than to try and disrupt the rangers peace right now. Sometimes you had to take the joy in lifes little things and right now, the ground was still and the world was at peace with itself.
She links her fingers behind her head and stares at the branches above her and how the leaves would twirl and flutter in the wind. Finding that her head is a little uncomfortable she takes a spare small barrel and tucks it under her head and shifts until she was comfortable again.
In the back of her mind she knew that it could not last…

*Before the meeting*

Thysaeryl and Feanor spent much of the morning with an apprentice of the Library in the demi-plane of knowledge gathering information that could be used for the meeting ahead. Topics she researched was the number of formians per hive... a few hundred and thy estimated later that the hive had about 400 formians... 250 workers, 150 warrions, 30 myrmarchs *the elites of the warrior class and capable of individual thought*, the rest being taskmasters to direct the workers *known by not having mouths and most notably they don't eat... they feed off the mental energies of those they dominate* and the 4 queens, one supreme queen or scion and 3 servant queens. The social structure was also researched, the queen is at the top of hive followed by the myrmarchs and taskmasters who are equal and then the workers on the lowest tier of hive society. The last was competition between hives while it happens it is extremely rare, a hive can have more then one queen and still function properly. The one thing of note they both discovered was that Mymarchs have been known to disagree with the queen and on very rare occasions rebel. Also noted is that the Formians do eat but the book did not state exactly what... this made Thysaeryl very nervous.

*a copy of these notes was sent to belladona and to Malandria*

*The meeting*

Thysaeryl and feanor meet up with Malandria and fellow grove member Elena in the Hive, with them was Reh of the shrine and most annoyingly the human wizard Tyd. They made their way to the old hive and was meet by a Myrmarch and a group of warriors *the myrmarch would later be known as "the commander". The group was ordered to mount the formians and would be taken to the queen... they did so and the journey took one half an hour and many later would speculate the purpose of this was to confuse the group so they couldn't return.

Once inside the new hive complex it was obvious that the formians had been very busy, the tunnels were long and narrow and branched off in many directions... all the corridors were blocked off but one so the group had but one choice. They were lead down a series of tunnels and saw many warriors blocking other tunnels... Thysaeryl made note that she saw no taskmasters or workers during this trip. Finally they came to the queens chamber.. she stood on what could only be explained as a pedestal and had a sack of eggs attached to her. In-front of her stood 3 adolescent queens... and around them Thysaeryl counted 15 myrmarchs and two behind them with a group of guards... 17 elites in all surely there was more.

Malandria spoke to the queen mostly and they discussed the plans of the hive and the growing threat many thought the Formians were... the Formians said they were not a threat until the Eilistraeens came and destroyed their eggs and they of course wished venegence. Malandria spoke to the Queen about how the Formians didn't belong on this plane and to some were rightfully hunted... the Queen responded quite pompously mind you, about how the tieflings are tolerated and not hunted to extinction. This made Thysaeryl smirk... the queen was right. Finally, the meeting came to a close and Thysaerly got to asked her questions to the queen... "what do you eat?..." there was some hesitation in this and a look of surprise from the group but the question was answered... "plantlife gathered by the workers and then farmed.. self sufficient" This answer pleased Thysaeryl.

\\fixed a few things typed this up while in class :)

There had been a huge quake in the middle of the afternoon as Belladonna and a friend had been keeping watch in the forest. They had taken one look at each other and then dashed for the sound of the disturbance.
When they reached the eastern side of the cliffs they could see that huge spoil heaps had been dumped from high above to litter the walls of the cliff and form a carpet over the forest floor. Dust was still settling from where the soil debris has been tossed up into the air.
Through all this Bella had craned her head up and then further up to try and make out anything. Sure enough she could just make out the figure of a Formian, checking their handiwork…
‘Oi!!’ She had called up in outrage and had got no response.
The two had looked at each other again and it was Bella who spoke next.
‘But if they have sealed this entrance then what… about…’
‘The other one’
They had both said in unison and then swore loudly as they had raced back to the camp and expected to see it in ruins.
But it was still there, exactly as they had left it. This was something that puzzled the little halfling deeply. Why would they seal the exit only to leave the entrance open, it made no sense.

Sometime later three figures crawled from the tunnel entrance to the Formians hive, Bella seemed to have a broad grin fixed on her face, content she had found out just what she had wanted to, even though it did not exactly help the overall situation it -was- reassuring.
As the night had passed the figures had sat in the camp, watching over the tunnel, they had made their choice to keep the peace if they could. The little halflings mind was more a ease now as she knew the civilian population of her home was being evacuated. She had less to lose now.
Eventually her eyelids grow heavy and despite the excellent company she had been privileged to enjoy she found sleep calling to her. She had left the camp in good responsible hands and had departed to go and check up on her oldest of friends.

For now the peace held…

*Xal goes in with Bella and Roxy. He comes out around the same time Valkin leaves. He doesn't really seem to have contributed in any manner what-so-ever, expect walking around.*

After returning from her most recent meeting with the Commander she frowns at the destruction of the barricades and has a pretty good idea who did it but does not worry overly as she builds a few new ones and then sets about writing a few important letters.

Deep within the lush forest of Amia, a lone figure sits by one of the old oaks, Leaning against it's roots. A staff rests over his lap, and a conjured bag of ice is pressed against his forehead. Minor grunting and the occasional moan slips forth, the man obviously in slight agony as he rubs his temple with his free hand.

-"What h-happened... Really.. And why does my body feel like it's been trampled on..."
He murmured to himself and adjusted the bag of ice. He could instinctively tell that he's done something, and that this 'something' hadn't been very successful, but for the love of Auril - He could not remember what.

-"Formians... Halflings... Oh, My head is stuffed with f-fluff... Ooaahh..." He moans again, and glances up the tree-crown. Small pearls of sweat dripped from his forehead, despite the cooling ice-pack. He could tell he had become sick, that his body had taken to much stress or ... something. But from what, was beyond him.

It would take several more hours for Tristan to realise, that he'd lost a battle, and most efficiently ashamed himself. But the war wasn't lost...

"They made me lie, they made me trick and manipulate people who held my trust for the greater good, they gave me no choice, the wretched planer things, they burrow and fortify their army while spineless bleeding hearts do not do what is needed" Thought the Wood elven druid as he sat in the limbs of a great oak wearing the shape of a raven eyes locked on the Formian nest. The raven-elf reached back and preened his wings, while no true raven he knew the mannerisms of the creature well enough to mimic it. "They will make me the Wild-Hunter, they will leave me no choice but to loose myself to the hunt to become the wild-hunter and dawn the stag lords crown. The hunter must use his guile and put what is good for this place above his own selfish desires" The raven-Elf told himself as he tilted his head coal black eyes watching the nest he had only days ago attacked with crushing stone and the fire from the earth mothers heart.

"The spirits bleed and the earth mother shudders from the pain they bring her. If the knife can not remove the taint the fire is all that remains, the hunter must cull that witch harms nature, No more of your words, I am the Wild-huntsman, I am the force that cleanses, I am Solonar's avenging arrow" The raven-elf took to the wing on that grim thought, the days ahead would be dark and test his devotion to the mother and the great hunters will, there would be more lies, and in his mind the formians were to blame for it all.

Again, Defeat.
Again, A lost battle.
But You get wise from the injury, as the old saying goes.

The druid clenched his shoulder, frozen for a brief second as the pain slowly thumped away, He had not gotten out of there uninjured. An arrow had penetrated his shoulder, and he was quite sure the arrow tip was still stuck in there somewhere. No amount of regenerative magic could force that one out, It would just close the wound even more.
Another mask of pain is painted across his face, another session washes over him. The feeling wears off, and the pounding ache that follow wanes in the rhythm of his heartbeat.

This time he knew, Going solo wouldn't cope it. He needed a partner, No three, to take out those blasted no-good rangers that guarded the entrance, And somebody to pin down that blasted halfling, He reminded himself.

-"Ghn... My intentions are good, for they aren't of this world. The balance must be upheld no matter w-what happens, and if it means collateral damage and hate from everyone i know of... Then gods help me"

The defenders all take shifts. Grabbing what little sleep that they can here and there. Between them they manage to keep the barricade manned and the peace intact. Though it had not been without conflict.

Bella had watched from her place, her bow ever present at her side these days. The gnomes had taken to rushing their defences on a regular basis. Whether it was because they resented the barricade or just because they were pleased to have someone to fight was unknown.
But the halfling was troubled, something the Commander has said at their last meeting still played on her mind in the quiet times. When she was on duty she would find her thoughts drifting to Sasha, her now elderly panther companion who was left resting in the peaceful shade of the Duir tree.
She could not be here and there as well as watch over the forests and although she knew the panther would accompany her to the ends of the world she could not bring herself to risk Sasha’s life by having her at the defences as well.
But still she fretted for her, alone at the tree and it was with a great relief she would end her shift and hasten back to her camp there, wrap her arms lovingly around the panthers shoulders as the two stay close to each other as the branches sway gently in the air.
But she would always find her gaze drawn to the looming cliffs and seeing many legged shapes in her mind, watching down on them…

For days, now, the forest has been quiet. At least insofar as the trembling of the ground beneath is concerned. There have been very few sightings of formians, and fewer still of intruders into the hive, thanks in large part to the continuous barricade being maintained just outside the hive's entrance.

Not everyone seems to be happy about this situation, though. There are individuals and groups who would rather the barricade disappear entirely. There have been multiple attempts by various peoples to try and talk, force, or sneak their way past the barriers. The majority of these have been dealt with by those who seek to keep what seems to be a temporary peace intact, with one occassion in particular seeing a squad of formian warriors, headed by their Commander, getting in on the action, as well.

All in all, it appears that the situation is under control. There are even talks that an agreement of sorts has been reached, the end result possibly being the hive moving back to its home plane.

It appears that all is well, or soon will be, within the forest environs.

....but appearances can be deceiving.

Lona arrives at the barricade and chats briefly with the guards. She watches them come and go without incident and begins to grow at ease. "I heard that most of the formians are already gone back to their plane," someone says. "Maybe we should go back home." Lona keeps an eye out for more familiar faces, but many seem to be missing. "Perhaps the threat has passed," she thinks. Still, though, a sense of unease keeps her at the camp...

*Xal just watchs the little barricade from a distance. He shakes his head, his many many warnings having gone unheeded, as usual. Just at that moment a random thought pops into his head, as it often does with him.*

"I wonder how the Undoer didn't bump into those tunnels when it was digging around. Ha..."

*He walks away puzzling out his thoughts, his concerns thrown away for the moment*

Her mood was foul, no it went far beyond being foul in point of fact. She had tried and she had tried so hard. The barricade had worked, it had kept the peace and for more time than she had ever expected it to. She had made friends with new folk whom she might never have met before hand. They had gathered together all drawn by a sense of doing something that was right.

None of them had been there as part of any group or organisation, instead they had been a group of conscience. But now things had changed… Bella felt as if she had lost a fried to a group that she still harboured a deep resentment towards. Time had done nothing to heal those old wounds and to see someone that she had respected and even started to look up to fall sway under them had broken her heart of the poor halfling. Well let them sit around the crystal and fool themselves into making a difference. They had made a difference here she knew even if only for a time. Let them go and fall into bad habits and ways that she knew would happen sooner rather than later.

Everything now seemed to be so hollow to her. The guards at the barricade became fewer as they got bored or wandered off to do more exciting things, the anger of it ate away at the little halflings heart as she tried to split her time between watching the Duir and the barricade. Until finally her patience had snapped when her friend had not come. She had raged… and she had cried. She had cried so hard that her small body had shaken with pain of it. She had cried until there was no energy left in her and all that she felt was a deep void left by hurt.Whilst she tried so hard to tell herself it was nothing, it did not stop the prejudice that ate away at her heart and would not let her believe it to be so.

So she packed up her camp gear and left te barricade to return to the Duir and keep her vigil there away from those who had made her heart ache so.

*Thysaeryl had been to busy with her trials and getting use to her duties to Oakmist Vale to see the encampment much... the few times she would have the time to venture there it would only be the human Crow who was standing vigil... and he only did so because she ordered him to. Thysaeryl knew Belladonna would disagree with her decision to join the Grove, she would need to find the time to speak to her about it as well. The Arch-Druid and Thysaeryl had heard the Formians were seen near the Duir and were making plans to take action.. if the Formians had found the Duir the risk was too great to not act*

For nearly three months now, Crow's face is seen in Cordor less than a handfull of times. Those rare occasions, he can be seen entering the library, returning and checking out a book or two. The first month or so was dedicated to rigorous training, a foothold on what was to come, what he hopes will come to pass. The remaining time has been spent guarding the Formian Hive entrance, as ordered by his Teacher. He can be seen making a patrol now and again in the western portion of Amia Forest, when not standing vigil at the entrance site. He notices the popularity of the place waning as less and less come to investigate, or even stand with him. Still, he remains. He also notices the unusual quietness of the Formians, no more ground trembling, no more visits by the Commander, just a lot of rain. Still, he remains. He takes some off time now and again to read his books on Elven history and to review his notes on the language of the Elves. He also reads his library books on the various Gods that have been discussed to him. He finishes his repairs on his tent that that crazy wizard nearly destroyed. Still, he remains. He has plenty of time for introspection and trying to make sense of some of the things he has been told recently, things that worry him, things that make him question the nature of truth. He reflects on the new faces introduced to him and what they have told him...one in particular...the one that shook him to his core.
Thoughts left alone and untethered tend to wander. Shadows grow with the setting sun not only on the forest floor.
He longs for the training that has changed his life so, but a promise made will not be broken, he will wait with patience and understanding...and trust. Still, he remains.

One shift everything changed... a visit from the commander... news to be told. The Formians had moved their Hive and the Barricade was no longer needed. The Drow known as Feanor had packed up the Barricade and its tents and moved off as quickly as the Barricade had appeared. For now... it was over

The trouble with being capable and independent was that everyone assumed you were capable and independent…

Belladonna had returned to the barricades where she had renewed her friendship that she had thought almost lost. Wounds had been healed and hearts opened to speak in ways that they had not been able to before. And they were that much better for it. The barricades had been remained with fresh troops who were eager to help out and Bella and her other companions had fallen back for the relative calm of the forest node.

The Formian Commander had come later that day, scouting in the forest, watching the comings and goings of the ever chaotic ‘two’ legs and Bella had stood on watching. She daren’t show the tension that was inside of her as the internal clock ticked down the days to when she would have to make her own personal choice as to whether or not she would start a turn of events that may well lead to a countless loss of life. A choice that she had put on her own shoulders and now it weighed so heavily on them.

Later that same day the Formians had left there cliff holes, the Commander flanked by a handful of other Myrmarchs had set off North from the barricades and had travelled right to the furthest boundary of the forest and then headed south, working their ways around the cliffs until they had found themselves within sight of the forest node. At one point the Commander had been accosted and then threatened, though the resulting conflict had been mercifully short and the peace had been kept.
Twice the Commander had stopped as if listening to some internal voice but Bella had not sought to ask anything as she had visibly followed the Formian ‘scouting’ party and had carried no weapon to hopefully show others that no harm was intended.

But when the Formians had eventually left a small group made their way to the Duir where a short but heated council was held and decisions, for better or worse had been made…

It was now little more than a dance, the folk had dressed up to the nines and had primped and preened, they had shown their muscles, their prowess and now all that waited was for the band to start the music…

Word had reached her.. Word she could not believe herself. She had rushed to tell the others and had undertaken the dangerous trip to see for herself. But it was true.

Where the chamber of the old queen had been there was now only huge spoil heaps where the tunnels beneath had been collapsed. The old exit was blocked and anyway into the new network of tunnels was now closed off. The Hive had sealed itself away from any further adventuring interference and the old tunnels are eerily empty and devoid of life.

The barricade was dismantled and removed from the scene by others, Bella had not asked for it to be put back up and those guards who had stood their watches over it she made an effort to thank each and everyone personally.

But now a whole new dance would begin…

Erelakcha sighed softly as she tosses a bizarre bronze astrolabe into a pile of strange and eldrich navigation devices. Tuomas was very nearly ready and she wanted to make sure that the gate would be opened without a hitch. Erelkacha took up a rainbow hued pendulum stone and tossed it into the pile. A soft sigh escaped her as she considered what was happening, she felt conflicted even a bit unsure, Jud had suggested the hunt target, she and Mayae had gone along without second thought. Perhaps it was the Chaotic nature of their race or maybe their goddess that made them so easily see the Formain's as terrible foes, not that they weren't without danger as a planer Kacha knew what they were capable of. Yet the voice of kindness and fairness in her said that returning them home was what a good person would do. She lifted a battered book and glanced at the tittle "Kodeks of the plains" Kacha grumbled about cross-traders and tossed the book aside before gathering the planer maps and navigation tools that would help the Gnome-Magus in his task.

As she prepared to leave to deliver the goods her mind drifted down countless roads of thought, would the commander betray them, was the queen using her? If thing went bad to worse she would have to bare the brunt of the burden, Jud'vardas couldn't be implicated in the choice of the High Hunt or the choice to try and open a gate for them. No Jud was seen by to many people as the level head of the Shrine as their main diplomat, Mayae was young and her reputation didn't deserve to be sullied with Grim resolve Kacha had known the moment the situation had occurred she would take as much of the blame as she could, and the oath she had sworn to the Formian Queen was binding, a Ysgardian who broke an oath sworn on their ring finger invited terrible misfortune. Then again that gamble had been to earn the queens trust, Kacha had known that the queen likely knew the ways of other planes and that an Ysgardian making such an oath would earn no small measure of respect.

Kacha shouldered her pack as she would shoulder the brunt of scorn, ridicule and hate for what might happen. With a grimness and determination only the people who truly understood her ever seen Kacha made her way from the Shine. The storm of events was either about to end or grow worse, and her grim ysgardian heart steeled itself for the worst.

Crow, not assigned to the entrance post, does not succumb to complacency, but continues to check on his former post and the western area of the forest. He now stands near the crystal node in the central portion of the forest at irregular intervals, waiting for the times when he can resume his training.
He can be seen more frequently in Cordor, and interestingly enough also in Wharftown, where he's been known to make a camp outside the gates and make several patrol runs in the general vicinity.

The meeting had been tense and Bella felt washed out more than she ever had in her life. They had done a good thing she knew. They had held the peace and soon enough the Hive would be leaving. Well half of the Hive anyway. Seemed the Commander intended to stay behind with his own little harem that no doubt he intended to control for his own idea of revenge.

What made it worse for Bella was the fact that he had tried to mess with her mind, manipulate her into doing something she would not ordinarily consider. It was only through a sheer effort of will power that she was able to throw off the weight of her own prejudices and keep herself on the straight and narrow.

There was a different anger inside of her now, one that raged against being used and having her feelings manipulated like that. It was a grudge she would bear against one being imparticular in the days to come. The one whom she had only ever tried to help see reason. Now there would be blood...

It had never been supposed to turn out this way…

The forest was lusher than it had been for a good long while, they still had the same old gaggle of slack jawed idiots that loitered around for no apparent purpose, but that was not so bad as many of the troublemakers seemed to have been deterred as well by the upturn in those visible in the forest once more.

Belladonna had been enjoying a rare moment of tranquillity when the Formian commander had shown up over the brow of one of the low hills that littered the forest. Groups of folk were quick enough to gather around and begin bombarding with questions and comment and observations and at first it was difficult to work out just what purpose the commander had above the ground.
But one showed up that was to change the course of everything, one whose motives appeared to be driven by the lust of wealth, one who appeared to be prepared to take out a contract on the lives of the Shrine Drow who had murdered the old queen and set ruin to their Hive. Using bribes of precious gems and raw gold the commander seemed easily able to persuade the man into this deal, little did they know that they were being spied upon from the bushes nearby.

She was waiting for word, for an order from the Grove leadership, the man was a clear threat to the safety of everything that they had worked so hard to keep in balance. As the man tried to lead the Commander away to try and talk privately the order was given and Bella, who had been tracking them, leapt out from the bushes, axes flashing in the daylight as the man seemed to take fright in the face of the small halfling launching herself at him and was quickly found dead on the ground.
The other defenders meanwhile had their hands full themselves. The commander had not taken well to having his plans thwarted for the last time and had attacked the forest defenders and the gaggle of adventurers that had gathered for the show. Weapons bounced harmlessly of the commanders thick carapace and for a time it seemed like he might prevail over the astonishing number of blows that rained down on him. But eventually the commander fell, his body broken and bleeding into the ground of the forest and silence had hung over the area.
It had been Malandria who spoke next ‘They will be coming’ and everyone had taken a deep breath and prepared themselves for the counter strike that they knew could not be far behind.

And it had come, it had started at the base of the skull crags, the ground heaving as earth was shifted and moved travelling in a straight line for the forests heart. A veritable horde of adventurers had been drawn to the forest by the time the rumblings had reached them. Folk whom Belladonna had never seen before an like as not would never see again.
Then gouts of earth had exploded from the ground, and formians had leapt from them in uncountable numbers, Duergar guards had followed close behind as the fight had begun in earnest. The small halfling wound her way around the outskirts at first, assessing the attackers and their abilities and weaknesses. After the first few waves she had retreated back to the crossroads and sought out Ramika the Ranger Captain, urging her to get the archers and mages up into the trees whilst the fighters swept through the ground clear.
Many fell that day, many bodies broken on the grounds of the forest itself, the screams of battle and the ringing out of weapons could be heard for a long time as chaos had taken hold of the battlefield. Belladonna electing to hold back at the tree and defend those who were above and raining down death on the Formian horde.
For a time it seemed that they would not prevail, that the numbers were to great for them, but the tide slowed and then stopped until only the sounds of the dying could be heard across the forest .
Quickly they had sought out Malandria who had elected to follow them through the tunnels, to find out where they nested so that they might be able to put and end to this rogue hive once and for all.

A much smaller group had made their way through the Sandy Beach area, they had wandered for a time debating on the right way to approach the nest before finding a tiny entrance through to the nest itself thanks to Malandria and her abilities with rats.
They found themselves in tight close knit tunnels that seemed to veer off all over the place. Many of the larger folk and anyone in heavy armour had a rough time of it in those tunnels, but Belladonna was able to put her size to good advantage as she could move about quite easily, keeping a firm grip on her weapons as they had come across chambers with workers in them.
One had been a harvesting area, broken bodies of formians and humanoids being torn apart for uses that Bella chose not to think to deeply upon, areas that appeared to be use for growing foodstuffs, huge mushrooms that sprouted from the grounds and being tended by workers that had taken no notice of them what so ever as they moved deeper into the network of tunnels.

They couldn’t be sure how much time had passed down there or even where they were so deep under the ground but they began to enter in upon birthing crèches where streams of guards would fall upon the fighters up front. At one point Bella getting turned to stone and the world had stopped for someone had provided her with a reversal of the spell.
And they had come at last to the central chamber, the fighting had been furious as the last guards fought to defend a rune circle that dominated the centre of the chamber. Around the inside edge of the circle were eight eggs that had been warded for their protection.
The intelectuals had put their minds to good use then. Between them the druid Barris and Malandria were able to discover that the circle was used to twist the nature of these eggs and would result in all of these eggs hatching as queens. Maybe ones that were designed to be under the commanders thrall.. Now they would never know.
First attempts to remove the eggs to destroy them had proved painful to a few of their number. It was Forestsong who had eventually been able to disjunction the wards and rune circle though both her body and mind had suffered a terrible backlash from the magic released and then the slaughter had begun…
Belladonna had sought out Ramika then and they had both turned away as the druids had begun the slaughter of the eggs, small body parts had flown from the eggs covering the walls and floor as horrific psychic screams had wracked the bodies of anyone whose mind had not been protected.
They had made their way out then, the druids crushing and destroying any eggs that had remained intact. Bella had not been able to bring herself to look let alone participate in the carnage and was actually relieved to find themselves back in the drow tunnels.

Once everyone was clear and the immediate area empty she had stuffed three exploding casks inside the entrance and backed away as she lit a fire arrow and whilst running away had fired it straight at the open portion of the barrel. With a satisfying explosion and crumbling of earth the tunnel was sealed over the hive, hopefully forever.

What remained to be seen now was how the other Hive would take this news. Would they still leave peacefully now or would they be bent on revenge as well for their fallen comrades. Only time would tell…

It would be a trip she never forgot, a ride the like of which would never be repeated in her life hopefully…

It had begun with time. Time that had leached from the world after the destruction of the rogue Hive, the silence that had followed it and the tense wait to see how they would react. The defenders of the forest ahd stood vigil whilst Malandria had sent one of her special messengers to try and contact them.

It had been answered, the Hive would leave as had been arranged, the Gate would be made for them and they would return to a plane far removed from this one. It had to be said that there was little trust in the air on the part of the defenders, they had expected something else but they had hope when they were met with seven formians… one for each of the companions.

Together they were taken into the embrace of the strange ant like creatures and they were swallowed up into the ground. For the next half an hour or so Belladonna could feel only her insides being slowly jolted apart as she had clung on for dear life to the worker who was acting as he transport.
At the end of it and in the darkness of the Hives tunnels far underground she found herself feeling queasy a sickness in her stomach where she had been jolted around so. They had been lead to a central chamber where in the Queen resided with her younger protégé. Guarded by what was left of the Myrmarchs agreements had been reaffirmed, arrangements made, the Hive would leave then and there…

A cavern had been set aside for the Gate that Tuomas would make that would send this Hive home. A shimmering light that led to another plane of existence that filled the cavern and Tuomas would exhert all the concentration he possessed on keeping the gate open for as long as possible.

Through it scores of Formians had passed, to leave Amia forever, the guards and companions having mixed feelings as the workers carried armfuls of eggs to their new home.

Then the Queens leaves with her retinue and she assures the tense group that there will be no treachery in this, they would depart in peace. But no sooner had those words been said than Forestsong had received a warning, the Grove was under attack from sources unknown. She and Malandria had left with all speed. The others staying only long enough to ensure that the last of the Formians left through the Gate and Tuomas had collapsed from near exhaustion, but her to had rushed to the aide of the Grove.

Belladonna is the last in the cavern, her feelings mixed, troubled. They had committed what amounted to genocide on the one Hive and yet here they had been saving another one from similar fate. Perhaps the Balance desired nothing less of them.

She had looked around for a long time and then gripped her portal wand and as the light of the portal had enveloped her she had said one word…

‘Goodbye’

It was all that could be said…
