It was a normal day in Bendir Dale, as normal as any, if not a particularly active day. Crowds of tallers were greeted by random villagers venturing past the gates for the evening. The sky was calm and the rain warded away, making way for a beautiful day of banter and laughs. It was a few hours into the morning that there was something visibly amiss; several adventurers report seeing a glimmer of azure light, which disappeared down the road towards the Northern portion of the Amian Frontier.

Several hours later, without trace of some of the heroic adventurers who followed through with investigation, they finally began to fan out from the depths of the frontier and return to the lands of the Dale. Stories are told of 'nightmare beasts', apparitions of horrifying proportions which serve to feed upon woe and fear and hatred of all kinds. Others hear of an odd entity, something about rabbits, ancient runes, and young women.

Soon after the event, the villagers of the Dale begin to unanimously experience bouts of unpleasant dreams. The night terrors range from exploitation of the smallest fears to the manifestation of traumatic memories, rendering some of the more hindered adults and youngins unable to preform tasks up to par around the town. Soldiers report late to their posts and children fall asleep during their lessons in the school house. The militiamen are forced into lengthier rotations, and Jayek is set to offer confessional services.

Certain adventurers, however, did not seem to return the same way to Bendir. Or perhaps return at all! The blonde, seen walking south far prior to the blue mist with a Mulhorandi male, never returned. Neither did the man in the skirt. Instead, she was found somewhere far more removed from society. Seeking peace, refuge, serenity.

If anyone did happen to spot Samantha upon the Salandran grounds, they may notice her speaking in hushed tones with some of the workers and keeping to herself. She didn't seem inclined to entertain visitors, leaving on some errand if any approached. It was never rude, surprisingly enough. It was a smile, begging off to some errand or another.

... If one were to ask the workers, they would most likely respond that what she spoke of was private, but that she may need some space right now. Were her nightmares worse than all the others, or was she just weak of mind? Or both? Whatever happened to her, it wasn't something she readily spoke of to the other adventuring populace. At least, she wasn't spreading fear like some others.

If she arrived during the day, a young man would look up from his usual work in the temple's field next to the leyline node. He'd shoulder a half-empty basket of produce and try to cross her path then or on the next occasion.

An empathetic smile. "What's troubling you?"

*A certain azure-clad merchant arrives again in Bendir Dale for his favorite blueberry muffins. Noting the grogginess of the citizens, he would make pleasant conversation with the locals. If told of the news, Rashad leaves seemingly troubled by the look on his face. *

Nicholas seems to be one of the ones that went off in Bendir to find out what it was, and one of the ones to return. He may get pestered around the Dale about what happen but he remains quiet, and damn well irritated.

Rania, upon her return to Bendir Dale, seeks out one Thomas Quinn and informs him of the events of the previous night. After a quick conversation with both him and Lord Tuomas, Rania and Thomas were seen setting sail to go visit Rabbit. Rania was carrying a tambourine which she claimed was a gift for the young woman.

Haunted by nightmares, Thomas wasn't able to sleep more than a few minutes at a time. When he closed his eyes, he found himself back at that Brothel where he was born and raised. The stench of dirt and sweat permeating the air and a visage of himself back in the kitchen, never having made his escape in the first place. It terrified him, and yet it was but one of many nightmares that swarmed the normally jovial bard's mind whenever he drifted off. Like a pack of rabid dogs they surrounded him.. daring him to close his eyes and go to sleep, to let his guard down.

He found himself sitting in the corner of his room, his mind racing even faster than his heart and a rather confused ferret staring back, bewildered by his companion's peculiar behavior. Thomas found another way to keep the nightmares at bay though, and it had been a faithful companion of his in the past..

The terrified human reached out for a whiskey bottle that was resting on his desk, just barely managing to retrieve it as his sweaty palms nearly let it slip. And as soon as it was pulled to his chest, the cork was removed and the bard started emptying that sweet dark amber liquid of Feeblemind.

Soon enough it's effects would finally start to take effect, numbing both body and soul until the bard was finally able to drift into a dreamless drunken stupor.

A few nights have passed since the event and Belgrim has been sleeping peacefully.
He has been taking care of some new visitor that arrived and the Citadel, you could see him trying to sing to her (not very good but still he tried). He almost began to forget the nightmares, until one night.
It was rather late, he was going back to his room after staying with the visitor the whole afternoon. Cleo, his cat, was waiting there and started to meow at Belgrim's arrival so he fed her with some fish, as she always liked and then went to get some sleep.
Then the nightmare came, he was back in the Silver Marches, his company was following a band of orcs that was sighted near Citadel Adbar, to the road that leads to Sundabar. They made camp near the Vordron forest, he was chatting with his cousin, Moggart IronWill... Then it happened, out of nowhere orcs appeared, surrounding them before they could form lines and the slaughter began... he saw how most of his unit was cut down by the orcs before reinforcements could arrive... and then... he woke up, covered in sweat and saw Cleo curled up on the corner. He grabbed her and said "it's aight... ye dunnae 'ave to worry" as he pated her
Next morning, when he was walking to the citadel's door for his daily incursion to orc territory some guard asked him "the same nightmare, aye?" to what Belgrim only nodded, put on his helmet, his shield on his back and ready his axe... He came later that day with his shield and axe stained with dry orc blood and his helmet a bit notched.

About a tenday had passed since the nightmares began. Many a citizen had moved out temporarily for a good night's rest, others staying to endure whatever caused this to its end, perhaps to fend it off in some way or another. But as the clock struck midnight on the day that made this journey a week, a strange droning noise returned over the village of Bendir and to the Frontier beyond. Like the distinct drum of clockwork and machinery.

-Tick- -tock-

-Tick- -tock-

It lasted for only a few minutes before capsizing completely, washed out by the pleasant ambiance of swishing trees and late night fires.

That night, the citizens had enjoyed the most peaceful rest they has received in a long while, even before the terrors of slumber had begun. Reports and sightings of odd, nightmarish creatures dancing along the intangible distance ceased, and life returned to normal. Well, as normal as it could get in the town of Bendir Dale.

Early the next morning, a group of younger Hin children congregate just outside of the gate as a flock of butterflies is seen fluttering in a mass blanket of life, headed for an indeterminate direction. The drove was so large, it nearly covered the entire sky for miles around. They were soundless, yet beautiful with their vibrant hues of azure. Light reflected and shimmered off of their appendages like esoteric gems, but didn't hurt the eye to watch at all. In fact, it was rather lulling. Many citizens stop to admire the phenomenon on their way passing to and fro work, or town duties. Coincidentally, the same oddity is spotted just outside the Great Hall of Barak Runedar, despite the harsh and cold conditions unnatural to the species.

Many had been graced with a beautiful act of nature that day, blessing the children and elders with another exciting story to tell for the ages. Would they ever really know exactly what they had seen this fateful dawn? Perhaps not. Perhaps no one really knew.

The day churned on, and life returned to its natural cycle.

The butterflies were never seen again

Standing outside in the port early one morning conversing with the traders, Aaegus witnesses the remarkable occurrence of this mass of butterflies converging in the sky. He stands quietly in thoughtful alert, not sure if it was a sign of a boon or curse. It certainly wasn't any of the known manifestations of the Morndinsamman he was aware of. Therefore, he conculded it was something alien to the hold. Whether it was a threat or not he did not know, he just rested his hand tightly on his warhammer hilt slung to his belt and watched the sight in some wonder while it passed, before turning inside to consult with the hold's elders as to its meaning.
