The late day sun was warm across most parts of the island, making the air quite mild and dispelling the memory of winter wherever there wasn't a breeze to remind that it was, in fact, still spring. There were some odd clouds creeping into the sky, though. Darker, smokier, and quite local. Those who remembered the recent eruption could probably place those slowly churning, grey shapes as originating from there, as if the peak were sighing out smog.

Quietly, unassumingly, the sooty clouds stretched out in the trade winds, creeping across the island and hastening the dusk. Tiny flecks, at first. Snow? No, these were dry, greyer. It trickled down like a light dusting as the clouds leisurely spread westward from the Crags.

As the night sinks in, so too does the ash from the air. It's not especially thick, but it is seemingly ceaseless, slowly drifting to the ground. In most of Amia, in remains light. The upper Skull Crags find it much thicker. Anyone visiting Guldorand finds ash falling like winter snow, and the citizens muffled by scarves to filter out the worst of the particulates, though it does little to stop the noxious scent that wafts throughout.

This weather persists throughout the day that will follow, screening out the sun. After tomorrow, only time would tell.

Ryvvik can be seen spending increased time near the peak of the mountain, finding a new home in the small cavern near its peak. He would meditate as the smoke rose, his breath laboured.

Rania, Thane Cory and the halfling Kelly were seen to climb up the snowy summits of the Skull Crags, entering into a certain small crevasse . They were not seen to come down.

A cowled redhead and hooded ranger trek up the mountain and root themselves just inches from the rocky barrier, which separated the lava from overflow along the peak. They conversed for several minutes until the noxious vapors began to render them ill. A portal was opened, and off they took.

Anyone with unbelievably keen eyes would see a Gnoll going up the mountain, and after a few hours, coming back down.

Rico stands within Bendir's walls, watching the ash dust the land. The grey onslaught from the sky coats his blackened attire with a fashionably fitting grey, but this aesthetic does little to please the Hin. A brief grumble from under his mask echoes only to himself. "There is never a moment of respite." He murmurs. "Not even for one second."

Overhearing a group talking about the sudden change in weather near Kohlingen, a black masked Tiefling decides to head to Guldorand and investigate.

During this journey, he notices that the air is more noxious up here than usual in the upper mountains. After fighting through giants and the beasts of the mountain he arrives at the settlement. He makes inquiries if any have found the source of the ash but nobody seems to know where it is coming from as this incident has occurred recently.

Deciding that he should see this for himself, the black-masked Tiefling uses the stairs to reach the telescopes from the watchtowers of Guldorand and does not see anything particularly important except that the sky is more hazy than usual. Knowing that in recent memory the Skull Crags have erupted once, he decides to head to the peak and see if the caverns there have been once again inhabited.

Fighting through Yetis, Mountain Aranea, Mountain Horrors and the hostile wildlife, he makes it to the cavern where he once explored here perhaps a month ago. Entering the cavern that leads to the inner peak, he notices that the caves are warm in contrast to the cold outisde. Moreover, there is no ash here. With the knowledge that there will be difficulty with the group of Mephits that inhabit the cavern, he casts a spell of invisibility to ensure that his presence is not noticed.

He observes that the structure found in the middle of the cavern still stands and the Mephits still reside there. He wonders about the room that can be found near the central structure and decides to investigate further. Not much has changed and he continues to check the door he could not open previously. Still filled with grit and grime, there does not seem to be any evidence that it has opened recently.

Realizing that his spell of invisibility may wane soon, he decides to check the other parts of the caverns and notices that the old structures he remembers there are now gone. Lava may have swallowed up the structures yet they remain in their place not overflowing from the pool it comes out from nor being a danger to anyone who would explore.

The black masked Tiefling moves on with his exploration and enters a room in the SW corner of the area and accidentally bumps on one of the Mephits. Using his skills with the blade, he attempts to strike at them with the fury of a demon. After the battle, with bottles of curatives everywhere and nearly empty healing supplies, he is able to strike at the last attacking Mephit. While healing his wounds, he observes that the former structures are gone and a new one has emerged. An idol of the former residents of the Skull Crags.

He tries to remember the name of the group and it occurs to him. Deciding that this information might lessen the blow on his expensive supplies he decides that the Holy City of Kohlingen, specifically those who work under the faith of Bahamut may find this worth something.

He taps the wand twice on the floor and a portal opens leading somewhere. He steps in and disappears in a flash of light.

Ally finds the highest points surrounding Bendir Dale and uses them as a vantage point, trying to determine the path any lava floe would take to determine the best places for ditches, barrier walls, etc.

Hours later, Ally and Kelly make their way to the Grove where they leave a message for a Druid of the Grove to contact Bendir Dale to discuss the current situation. Ally would leave her name and Gideon's as contacts.

The ashfall continues through the next day and night, interfering with the usual weather of the season. Occasionally actual rain manages to fight its way through, managing a short while of sprinkling - enough to turn the ash already on the ground into a pasty slug - before those clouds are invariably forced out by the billowing of the Skull Crag's summit.

The days are dark, and the nights starless.. but at least it isn't as bad as in Guldorand for most of the island.

Candle is seen to be heading up the mountain to Guldorand, using her shield as a plow through the ash when necessary and disappearing into the mid-day darkness as she attempts to make it to the city. After many hours pass, she is seen to be descending the mountain, angling for the Dale.

Those who traverse the mountains find that it's "only" a few inches deep at and past the beetles. The Howling Pass actually has less than its altitude might cause people to expect; likely on account of the strong winds that blow through and for which the chasm is named.

Guldorand sees the most ash of any of the settlements, and the folk there deal with it mostly by staying indoors. Work has slowed to nearly a stand-still as a result, but some of the citizens defiantly continue to jobs with thick mufflers wrapped about their faces, their hoods and hats pulled low to keep the particulates out of their eyes.

If one travels further up the mountains, into and past the snow line, they find the air harsh and difficult to breathe; not only from the thickening ash, but from the noxious fumes that pervade the air. At the peak, the snow has given way entirely to ash, both on the ground and raining from the sky. Columns of thick, black cloud spew out from behind a ridge of stone at the very summit, and the angry glow of molten rock can be seen playing shadows on the crater wall.

Brother Davion hikes his way up the mountains, as much as he can amke it. His body and face are covered by the thick hood, mask, and scarf he wears when it combat. Finding a spot to settle in, as high on the mountain as he can manage before any sort of fumes or poor air quality would cause him to need to stop, he begins to mediate, and feel the Earth beneath him. This meditation is not always lotus-formed; it takes the form of hands running across rock; of handfuls of ash being rubbed on the body; of deep inhales from vented fumes, as much as the body could stand.

A quantity of the ash was collected into a thick bottle he had purchased for this reason.

A dwarf hermit, who some may recognize as a former Master Brewer and resident of Barak Runedar, sighs as he leaves his cave in the deep woods between Amia Forest and the mountain passes. Another alcohol-induced, bear-like hibernation and he woke up coughing to find his garden dead, covered in ash.

He casts a spell and opens the small stone vault where his equipment is kept, and for the first time in months he not only leaves his isolation but he does so in ironwood armor, and carrying all his few but powerful possessions. His last stop is the place where he digs to recover several gourd-like containers that had been buried with mead to ferment. Wineskins are filled, stored and he climbs the Skull Crags with Gulo, his wolverine companion.

The mountain is examined as only dwarfs can, as is the cave where the landfall revealed an idol that the druid did not recognize, but could tell by its design that it meant bad news. With him and his companion only surviving the ash-filled air with the aid of magic they exit the place, and the pair makes his way to the settlement Oaru knew to be the one surely suffering the most due to its proximity to the now awakening volcano.

If not stopped or told to leave, Oaru would enter Guldorand with Gulo, and without sparing any more words than the barely necessary to declare his intentions he would take his Air Elemental form to produce a whirlwind, obviously not enough to rid the settlement of its plight, but in the hopes of giving the locals a measure of comfort and the vegetation a much needed respite. The whirlwind, heavy with ash, moves out of the settlement, carrying its cargo to the Howling Pass, where it dissipates.

The months in isolation did not seen to have had much effect on the dwarf's tireless industry, and down the mountain he goes, towards the cornucopia of Amia Island, the hin village of Bendir Dale. If not stopped or told to leave, and again speaking as little as possible, the druid would magically Purify the waters and any damaged crops (up to 30 cu.ft. per cast, 5 casts before resting) and ask the Earthmother for enhanced, healthy Plant Growth for the area that produces much of the islands fruit and vegetables. He would then take the form of a Water Elemental to wash away as much ash as he could manage, from as large an area as possible.

For the next days he could be seen, wolverine always following, traveling non-stop between Bendir Dale and Guldorand.

The folks of Guldorand - the ones who are still outside while this is going on, at least, meaning mostly the guardsmen - do not refuse Oaru entry, and when he offers his aid, they give a dusty shrug. Can't hurt any more than what's going on, they say, and they hunker down to let the wind blow off the layers of ash that have turned their village grey. It's quite an interesting sight for any who happen to be in a position to watch the gathered ash enter into the howling winds of the pass and what it get blown out toward the sea. Streams and streaks of greys whorl and twist and spiral like an Shadowscape artist's creative come alive, before it is scattered into the ocean currents.

Over the past few hours, the weather has taken a turn for the better. The ash clouds seem to finally be thinning out, and so far there have been no more frightening fountains of lava spitting within the crater. It still remains hostile at the summit, but the low land regions of Amia are slowly being pried out from the grasp of the ash. For the first time in days, people are able to see actual sunlight pierce the smoke, if only for a brief few minutes.

Traversing up the mountain in a rather slow, and stealthy manner, Crow finally reaches the peak of the Skull Crag Mountains. Standing in a crevasse, he shivers from the bitter cold at his back, but winces, at the blasting heat ahead of him. Taking his time, the ranger makes a casual exploration of the area, and finding nothing amiss, he leaves as uneventfully as he arrived. Curiously, he leaves no tracks in the snow, either in, or out of the area, but his presence is there, for a time.

Tonight is the first in a tenday in which the moon is visible, as a hazy crescent, shrinking into darkness. The stars peek out as well, looking smudged and blurry through the thin screen of smoke and clouds, but present at all. Throughout the course of the night, the ash stops falling. Then the volcanic clouds begin to fade. By morning, there is just a trickle of black still rising from the peak, but no longer does its exhaust blanket the island. The ash on the ground is still there when first light dawns, but it is stirred and swept by the winds as they wind along the channels and features of the terrain, dispersing the pile that had built up.

The weather has finally returned to its normal patterns across the island of Amia, and its surrounding maritime territory. Those visiting the summit find that snow is beginning to accumulate again as the crater has calmed down to idle steaming.

Even as the fury of the Crags abates and the snow covers the peak again, Oaru and Gulo are a common enough sight going between Amia Forest and the top of the volcano. In one of the last visits thou something unexpected happens, as they meet a creature coming to see the unearthed shrine with their own eyes, and an unlikely, but fast friendship begins.

While it wasn't strictly weather, the sky did hold some changes to observe. With the recent ash cover it was impossible to say for certain just when it had happened, but an unusual star was now being seen in the Trackless Sea. Shaundral, also known as the Drifting Star, was glimmering in the heavens again, visible on clear nights, and traceable by its rebellious movements through the sky. While its recent appearance may have had little impact for the majority of folk, astronomers and fortune tellers now had a topic to discuss; how long would the the star linger this time? Was it bright when it could not be observed behind the heavy smoke and clouds and was now dimming? Or would it shine more brightly from this point on - and if so, what portent might it be heralding?

A young lord can be seen jumping off from the cart by Guldorand. He then proceeds on foot to the peak of the mountain.

Aedan is seen more frequently watching the stars, be-it by laying down and stargazing or looking through the telescope in Wharftown. Given the circumstances of the star that has appeared in the sky, however, he appears more troubled than usual. When he isn't stargazing or doing his regular patrols, he's also often seen conversing with the priests at the temple as well as aiding with anything there.
