It'd be nice if we could pay town criers to be useful. Something like handing one crier 500 gp to spout something all over Amia til next reset would be nice. Of course, there'd be checks to prevent abuse (refusing curses and such). Perhaps require level 20+ to be able to use it so some troll/griefer/spammer cannot roll up a nobody and pay town criers all over Amia to spam "YOUR MOM" til reset.

Now they're just standing there, spouting outdated things about (mostly) long inactive characters.

There's actually a post were you can pay and have them say something in Cordor. I'll try and find it. I used to use it for recruiting and advertising for my Toon Ely back in the day.

The town criers were criminally underutilized, both ni advertising how players can use them, and in DMs using them, for sure.

I'm all for them getting more use, but I'm not really sure if they're as needed now that we have message boards. Those are a lot more far reaching and you can get a message up instantly.

The selling point of town criers, if we're going to use them, should be what they were originally set up to do: spout messages over a period of weeks/months. It's the convenience of not having to sign on every reset to update the message boards. Makes sense in a way. Even if someone leaves a trolling message on the boards, you don't see it unless you look and it's gone in a reset. If you want something shouted into the channel where anyone walking past will see it, and it's going to do that for weeks, you gotta get it signed off by a DM.
