The obelisk was carefully unearthed with painstaking care, restrained against the rock wall behind it with a web of ropes and pitons with every foot the pale archaeologist descended. He worked diligently in rain, sleet or high winds from beneath the tent, pausing occasionally to dump sand into the nearby ocean.

An addendum was added to the wooden notice near the entrance.

The black-clad being known simply as "Kerath" can often been seen digging around the site, possibly hoping to find some ancient, Netherese, soul-devouring blade to which he could lay claim. The results for finding his dream sword have not been enviable.

However, in his latest day of digging, Kerath had his first find, a curious artifact. After quickly conversing with the captain, he successfully obtained permission to study the object with his skills as an engineer, agreeing to write up a report on his findings. He can now be found in Tarkuul's library, studying away.

The notice would be read by a woman clad in blue, and she would respond underneath in a rather blunt way.

As progress is made agonizingly slowly at Febrith's excavation site, the very tip of some sort of structure can begin to be seen poking up from the top of the cliff face that is gradually being dismantled. Great care seems to be taken so as not to damage whatever is beneath as the undead work towards its unveiling.

The rubble and earthen refuse from the site is carted off by bone golems periodically into the Risen City and is now dumped in the "pen" that was recently assembled next to the Crypt.

Of late there seems to be a less concentrated effort by the Living Guard in excavations, one could still see the occasionally individual Guardsman working there however. A number of instances would have Sicarius being this Guardsman, evidently still intent on having whatever is below unearthed.

At other times Sicarius can be seen overseeing the checkpoint, assisting the Unliving Guard in maintaining the orders on the prior issued excavation notice.

After having returned with some sources from outside the Living City and obtaining a second artefact from the Captain, Kerath seems to make a great deal of progress in his studies. Combining the knowledge from offsite engineering books, Tarkuul’s library and now, two artefacts from the excavation, the Tarkuul associate begins writing his report with a new found vigour throughout the night.

At the current dig site near the shipwreck, one of those busily digging very nearly finds themselves swallowed up by the earth
rather suddenly, as their shovel goes not only into the sand but right through it as well!

What rests below in the darkness of the Court, who can say?

One heavily robed, gender-neutral figure stands observing the sink hole with an air of dessicated irony. It breathlessly sighs with its whole body and turns to spread word amongst the laborers and officers. As ever, Kemnon's mien is a flattened plane of humorless business.

"The ceiling of a structure has been breached. No further vertical digging should occur between the areas I have marked with posts. Vertical digging may continue outside of these areas. Horizontal digging may continue within the areas, but with due caution to not further impact the structure.

Furthermore, the senses of an Umber Hulk are not being employed frequently enough. Be as liberal with this tool as you would a shovel."

A note is pinned to the wooden sign just outside the Court. It appears to be made of vellum and seems resistant to the effects of the weather. The neat, black letters also do not seem to be easily affected by the elements, either.

Quote:
The following individuals known to be heavily involved in the excavation are to speak with me as soon as possible.

-Kerath

Strangely enough, Mathus has not been seen in the Court for several days. His makeshift tent over the obelisk has remained unoccupied.

Progress in the Court continues and though the presence of the living workers has declined slightly, a recent surge in activity from the undead workers seems to take place. It would seem that the City itself is perhaps anxious to see the remainder of the sediment cleared away... though any who know the City well might find this odd.

*-*-*-*-*

As more space around the tortured hull of the mysterious sea vessel is exposed, a single Bone Golem moves near it, preparing to dismantle the useless, brittle frame and toss it into the sea...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v498/ ... r/Boat.jpg

*-*-*-*-*

Febrith's excavation site sees the same careful and almost languid pace of activity despite the increased speed in other areas. More and more of the building below the stone and sediment is beginning to be exposed as bit by bit, caked on chunks are removed from the upper reaches of the structure. Someone with keen eyes might be able to note that the center of the structure seems generally square, with two "wings" or perhaps walls, curving out from either side of it.

*-*-*-*-*

The obelisk site has seen much careful and diligent attention by the Archaeologist of late, and with his recent work uncovering the sides of the rune-covered marker, a great deal more of it is now visible. The various poles and rigging used to secure it seem to be holding it upright well enough, especially still being sheltered by the surrounding dunes. The crack running horizontally near the top still provides a reminder that there is still work yet to be done to heal the obelisk, and with the uncovering of the lower portions another, smaller crack is evident.

The runes themselves are still caked with a bit of sediment and careful brushing and cleaning will be required before any more of the message it carries can be puzzled out. In the meantime, it would seem that something else has taken a keen interest in the obelisk site, watching all that takes place around it, day and night.

While surveying the progress in the Court, a thickly robed figure approaches the construct and issues it simple, direct instruction. "Do not dispose of the vessel. Relocate it to the southern end of the Court, not in the obstruction of other excavation."

The golem would stop dead in its track... and would not immediately move even after Kemnon had given it an order.

It remains, for the moment, stationary.

That seems to be taken as sufficient for the archeologist, for while the latter part of its instructions are not heeded at the time, the robed figure appeared more concerned - if such a term could be used in relation to the blasé creature - about the former. Kemnon does not move for several moments following, observing the construct. Then, it continues on its own way to resume work.

It came due time for Mathus and Phrixus to meet to complete the ritual of making to obelisk whole. As they approached the obelisk, Mathus took the time to explain what he'd uncovered so far, as well as to how significant it could be to the landscaping of the area. The two sat and displayed interest, Phrixus more calm and collective in her demeanor then usual.

However, when it came down to the ritual, her mind was fixated on business again and she'd let herself go into that place of unknowing.

After the ritual was complete, the faintest sound of stone scraping against stone could be heard. A keen observer would be able to see that inside of the cracks, each individual particle of stone seemed to be reforming and fusing back together with the surrounding particles, bit by bit.

The process took quite some time given the extent of the damage to the Obelisk, but the end result saw it entirely restored. No longer were the ropes necessary to secure it; the ritual had lived up to its name.

The ascetic did some fist pumps and threw out some high fives that nobody caught.

Appraising the work the spell had done by climbing the obelisk from multiple angles and testing the stone with an expert touch, Mathus' nodded down to Phrixus and even cracked a hint of a smile.

"Well done."

Then, without hesitation, he pulled out a brush from the hem of his robe and returned to cleaning and clearing the runes.

Bit by bit an opening would be made, the two "umberhulks" eventually tracking each other to a midpoint just outside the stone doorway. Though the occasional slight tremor of the surrounding sand and sediment would perhaps slow their work and give cause for a bit of caution, the supports of the structure seem to remain sound.

Once the opening was made, a bone golem would plod over from across the bridge into the Court, taking up station beside the door as its new guard.

After concluding work on the opening of the first building, Mathus turns his full attention back to the obelisk, clearing the sigils so they can be properly read. Though his work is still careful, he seems energized, working with the frenetic pace of a man possessed.

One afternoon a skeletal guard carefully gathers up a bundle of items from the massive stone chest beside the entrance to the Court, and begins unhurriedly walking into the greater city, heading for the Tower of the Damned.

Anyone who may have been bored enough to follow said skeleton would see it provide the bundle to Jerto, who tucks it safely away in one of the cabinets behind his counter.

This process is repeated twice more.

Anyone stopping by Jerto's shop in the next couple of days would find that more often than not the wizard-merchant has a small, glowing rune on the counter with a note next to it reading, "Trace for Service", at which point he would come down from somewhere higher up in the tower to attend the shop.

As the level of the sand about the Court continues to lower, thanks to the efforts of those few living who continue to shovel, and the aid of the zombie workers, some of the foundations of a few structures begin to show, poking up above the level of the sands.

*-*-*-*-*

The mostly in-tact building who's entrance was uncovered by two Umberhulks, the hole in the roof having been repaired, seems to have sprouted a door which the undead were quick to affix to it. The door would seem to be warded somehow, and entry seems restricted, though exactly to whom remains a mystery for the time being.

*-*-*-*-*

Perhaps most noteworthy of all, the Archeologist who has been at work gently brushing away grit and grime from the Obelisk these past weeks finally climbs down from his ladder... and takes a few steps back to examine his work.

Though all are written in an age-old language that few know how to read, there the runes are, fully uncovered and just begging to be translated... all while the Phantom watches on.

Including what materials, goods or spells will be required to hasten its repair*

The pale, thin archaeologist cedes the grounds to the magus once he sees the expertise, skill and delicacy of the man's efforts. Exiting via the bridge, he is not seen again in the Court.

*A letter within his hands valkins eyes move over its words, a slight incline of his head is offered in a pseudo reply to the meaning within the letter, the seal of the headmaster lucious blackwater upon the seal. Valkin places it within his cloke and continues his research, seeking out all information regarding the way in which the mythal forges work and making preparations for travel to another site for further examinations and experimentation*

"It seems that more clues lay hear, include further proof of my assumptions, i am so close i can feel it"

*With those words valkins boney hand extends a figure and fains patting his long dead Psuododragon Talania, his eyes now studying a some charcoal rubbings as well as some deciphered text*

Quote:
((In memoriam of the High Arcanist Mherun Xilphas, Cheif of Magistrate of Tarkuul. May ye find the life eternal in the embrace of the Living City, ye who sacrificed mortality in defense of Knowldage.

Let this Tower of the Forsaken be thy legacy. Like thee, may it continue to push the boundaries of the ars magca and inspire all magi to peel back the veil of mystery and discover Truth.

Unravel; Antomize formlshape rood, and mind in effigy not of death, but of the life eternal. By these words i love, die and live again.)))
*charcoal rubbings taken from the obelisk*

"It seems this obelisk was Immastus work, no wonder it has remained throughout the ages, a memorial of sorts for the Archmage Mherun Xilphas, i believe he was first councilor of the Onyxtarashums, the creator of the veil i assume"

*Valkin continues to study the obelisk, and try to cross reference various tomes and sources to try and divulge more information or means behind the archmages words in memorial to Mherun*

"Knowledge, is a key word, as is Truth"

*Pondering he considered the possibility of a key, and perhaps that there are command words of some kind associated with the obelisk*

"Minself will approach the devices, i assume such words need be uttered in High Netherees"

*Valkins ensures his pronunciation is in order, having herd the language spoken aloud by someone of that era and his constant research into the empire he is confident he can pronounce the right words*

"Truth, Knowledge..., Shape rood, old world, for rod, ... a symbol for authority.. yes, a play of words an anagram perhaps ?"

"In memoriam of the High Arcanist Mherun Xilphas, Cheif of Magistrate of Tarkuul. May ye find the life eternal in the embrace of the Living City, ye who sacrificed mortality in defense of Knowledge."

*Valkin ponders on the possibility that it was Mheruns soul that was used in the empowerment of the Mythallar, perhaps it was Mheruns that was sacrifice to give life to the mythallar*

"It was his soul that fueled and empowered it, his sacrifice to protect the city yes this must be it,Arcanist Mherun Xilphas died during the civil war and Immastus ended it, perhaps it was his sacrifice that bred sentience to the mythallar and the ability to enforce the laws and ended the civil war ? "

*Taking the anagram or riddle asside "Unravel; Antomize formlshape rood, and mind in effigy not of death, but of the life eternal. By these words i love, die and live again." valkins spends time focusing on this trying to acertain its hidden meaning*

*Unravel; Antomize formlshape rood, and mind in effigy not of death, but of the life eternal. By these words i love, die and live again.

Unravel:
Antomize: Maze I Not, Maze into
formlshape : False Morph, A Flesh Romp , A Helps Form, A Helms Prof
Rood: Door
and :
mind :
in
effigy : A representation of a person (especially in the form of sculpture)
not of death:
of the life eternal.
By these words i live, die and live again.*

Memento Mori , seems to have meaning in an old toung, ruffly translated Remember your mortality.

*To Unravel into the Maze, ______ Door and mind into a representation of a person, not of death, of the life enternal*

"he speaks of his transition into the mythallar, at least that is what it seems, his representation of a person, his change not to death but to immortality, within his sacrifice of mortality to become what he is now"

// love dm over-site to "try" some stuff at some point >.< ill see if we cant get a group of us for it though

The Quartermaster can be seen around the Living City in his usual cape and armor, though he appears to be taking down numbers and pacing around more often. He also recently seems to have taken to the Trade Hall far more often.

Having little else to do, being a Bard with no voice Emilie appears more frequently in the Court, relying on the guidance of others to accomplish her tasks.

During one of his patrols in the area, the ascetic is intercepted by a pair of hooded figures - Kemnon and Febrith - and led inside the newly uncovered stone building for half an hour. When the blue-clad figure in the bug-eyed helm emerges, he makes his way to the easternmost excavation and examines the cliff wall from a distance for a few minutes before moving on.

With the last few shovels and wind gusts over the last two nights, the last barrow-full of sand is finally thrown over the edge of the Court of the Living. A few piles of debris or larger rocks remain to mar the surface, but those walking through the Court now find their boots hitting solid cobblestone where once there was shifting sand....

*-*-*-*-*

It would seem that Febrith has moved away from her dig site finally, after seeing some small amount of progress made. Where she has gone, and who will continue her work, remains to be seen...

*Valkin would be seen to take up Febrith's work seeming that they have departed, valkin would attend to cataloging any remaining items located in the sands, he would then take careful with brush hammer and chisel to separate any remaining "dirt" sand and rock from the true pave-stones paying special attention to any area that appears to have had writing or symbols upon it.

*He would ensure as best as he could to avoid damaging such features and attempt with "make whole" spells and basic archeological skills to learn what he could and repair what he could as he went about assessing the newly cleared area of the living court*

*valkin would pay close attention to the fallen tower of the dammed, he would assess with what knowledge he had the design of the building height and layout taking into account any old drawings or texts he had read about the city or netherees architecture and city spell form to ascertain how the structures would be repaired. He would then assess if the city's current supplies he and others acquired was sufficient to make the repairs and if not he would not what would be required in both mundane and magical to repair the fallen building*

*Next valkin went on to assess the temple, firstly he would look around the temple once more trying to see if there were any new markings that have been uncovered, making use of his hammer chisel and brush to remove sand dirt and debris. Secondly seeing all the debris was now removed examined the door, he started by casting detect and read magic. He would then cast detect Traps, and then examine it for traps, disarming anything if possible. Lastly he would assess the lock upon the door trying to ascertain if it has a magical element or was simply mundane. Lastly he would as with the other structure examine the structure and see what more would be required to repair and if the supplies acquired are enough* (( if able to gain entry i would wait for in-game time and to get help just encase))

*Lastly valkin would move on to the other areas of the city, and use what knowledge he would posses as to where the best or most dutiable locations to build a inn and residential or office areas within the area of the court of the city, he would make note of what would be structurally sound and most appropriate. A few drawings would be maid as to design and architecture that would match the original or similar to what would have stood hear long ago*

Image

*lastly valkin would take all his basic notes upon the required resources and basic articular drawings and concept designs and write a letter to the speaker of the city containing his suggestions and requirements*

Speaker

Minself writes to address the future requirements and projects regarding the construction of the city. Attached are my concept designs as well as suggestions as to the best locations for new structures along with conceptual and architectural designs for the temple and tower of the damned repair as well as the suggested new buildings the residential, office and Inn. I hope such will assist in the construction at hand, should you give me the go ahead with this i will confer with the quartermaster as to the supplies required and then requisition such as well as craftsmen to perform the work.

Regards

Magistar Mulgin

The young bard, seemingly recovered from her troubles, easily intercepts the letter with a wry smile and is seen jotting down a quick reply, privately sending it back to Valkin through the shadowmages of the City.

After that is complete, she goes on her merry way and hand delivers Valkin's note to Luca.

Daylight shining on the stone walkways brought the ascetic back to the Court of the Living. With a trained eye and careful steps, the pale, athletic figure walked the length and width of the Court, taking special care to avoid walking directly inside the tower's ruins. Eventually, he found himself at Febrith's old dig-site, now quite obviously a massive, winged structure.

As long as Magister Valkin did not attempt to do more than investigate the superficial exterior of the building, Mathus remained at a distance, watching, waiting for something other than contact from other workers.

The bard is greeted with his usual bemused expression as the note is delivered, laying out Valkin's plans on his desk once the pleasantries were sorted out. He seems to already have quite a pile of various plans and sketches addressing the matter. Heads are scratched, wine is drunk and many, many sheets of parchment are crumpled as he goes about the drafting. Almost as an afterthought, a reply is penned...

"Mr. Mulgin,

The drafts are appreciated, they seem to serve as a solid starting point, at the least. I'll be using them as a framework, with my own experience and materials from Thultanthar to serve as a guide to filling in the gaps and missing details. The designs will be true to the vision of the Empire. As for supplies and craftsmen, you and Gerald don't need my permission to do such, any competent officer wouldn't be faulted for taking initiative on a necessary matter. Ideally, however, we will need only very few outside craftsmen. With luck, I'll be producing the needed experience, but it's no sure matter.

~L.S.

PS: While your curiosity is admirable, the door of the temple is warded for a reason at this juncture. Be patient, as it'll be unsecured soon enough."

Valkin would not be prevented from examining the eastern dig site, however when he attempts to help carefully chisel away at the remaining rock there, the Shadow Mage still present would turn a heavy stare his way, a rather clear statement that he can look, but not touch.

His assessment of the Tower of the Forsaken would seem to be that what little remains of the original structure is essentially useless, little more than crumbling ruin. If a new structure is to be built, it will have to be built from scratch.

His examination of the door would reveal a simple yet quite sturdy warding spell, designed to allow only certain individuals to pass. The battered exterior of the temple itself still shows no remaining sigils or adornments that might give clues to which deity it was dedicated to.

After a few hours of casual, distant observation and note-taking, the pale archaeologist is approached by Febrith with a small, bound book. Nodding his thanks, which likely collides with the darkly-clad woman's affect and slides uselessly to the cobblestone beneath them, the ascetic clambors up one of the scaffoldings with an effortless speed. Nimbly darting onto the topmost bars he leaps across to the stonework and then crosses to a sturdy, if precarious point atop the structure to gain vantage and privacy. Mathus straddles the stone there, his legs assuming a tight grip, and opens the book to read.

Any observers would note that the ascetic's occasionally shifted the book in his hands as if changing perspective would add sense to the text. Equally common were sidelong looks at the building beneath him, his eyes scanning as if measuring distances.
