A dark afternoon, and while all afternoons were dark amidst the sandy dunes of tarkuul due to the ever present clouds, this one was perhaps a bit darker still.
A cold wind blew, and while all winds that blew through the lifeless city of tarkuul were cold and bitter ones from the ocean, perhaps this was, too, a little colder and more harsh than usually? Tarkuul was as void of life as ever, with the occasional living entity preforming his or her dark rituals, searching for eternal life and preforming the most macabre experiments the world had ever seen. Madness and terror was the only reward for the one who delved to deep and searched to far amidst the secrets of the city. Amidst vampires, ghouls and ghasts there was unfathomable power to be sought for those who knew where to look, and unimaginable terror for those who could not handle the truth, the power and the moral dilemma of it.

There stood suddenly a figure of imposing strength and might, an epitome of the perfect warrior strode into the gates of the living city. The figure caressed the hilt of his sabre softly, almost lovingly, as he took in the full magnitude of the reeking death that were ever present inside this gigantic cemetery. After striding about idily amidst the bones of old he finally gave up and tugged onto the closest living guard and guardsman, asking where the portalnode was located, the figure seemed determined to never again have to wade through the lowland swamps again to reach the city's portal.

The man was a genesi, a being with the lineage of the prime elements. This one exceptionally versatile in the language of war. The hair of the warrior danced like living fire, his eyes gleaming of fire, very real fire, and hinted of a mighty temperament barely kept in check. He was looking for somebody, no doubt, for this creature had only stepped foot three times amidst the wasteland that was tarkuul, and least he had changed his mind, this visit was temporary.

"If jergal ever went to a vacation resort, tarkuul would be the place" - the figure mumbled.

Should the genesi actually step foot onto the Living City, he would find that no sand dunes remain, that the cold wind that once blew is now a temperate and soft breeze and that much of the stench of death that once filled every corner of the place seems to have since retreated into the bowls of the City.

As for how the Living Guardsman might respond, that is for the Guardsman to say...

The lithe figure of Vosst, the Captain of the Living Guard, observed this visitor much like every other who had come to Tarkuul. He is not found on sentry duty however - usually moving through the city between one task or another, likely involved with the management of the Living Guard.

Although pointedly (but politely) avoiding direct physical contact, he is quick to assist by directing the visitor towards the large, glowing red crystal just by the swamp portal, although it seems he lacks the time for extended assistance as he moves on through the Living City.

Upon entering the city he would clearly see a wooden sign, sparkling in different
magical lights that would read..

..perhaps this could put the search of this genasi to rest?

That does sure help indeed. And it doesn't take long for the visitor to find the library and inquire about the headmaster.

Grim being ever present during the times when most of the residents seem to be out for other matters would simply give the genasi a nod and say "welcome" should he realise he has not seen the being here before.
