Sorry, Dayf!

I won't be coming back this time either....well, can't see it happening anyway, not unless there are BIG changes to the Server, and I doubt that they will happen in time......

Yeah, still around, though the Dale has been quiet mostly.

Yeah... I still love Daisy, and have every intention of keeping her in my front line of characters, but I'll vouch for the obstacles cited by others, most especially that it's hard to RP when there's nobody around. Kaithan's been having kind of the same problem in Winya lately, but she's got circles she can move in that aren't contained by her city; most of Daisy's friends and acquaintances are all other Dalers. So, I'm just finding more interesting RP elsewhere at the moment, which is kind of unfortunate.

Also agreed that these things are cyclical... what the Dale needs, I think, is a PC or two to be the flame that the rest of us moths can swarm around. :) Right now in the Dale there's kind of a huge window of opportunity, I think, for players to make a name for themselves; all the old lynchpin PCs are gone, and there's kind of a leadership vacuum, it seems. Whoever can plausibly step up to be the next Lyle / Willow / Joanna / etc., could probably find a fun road ahead of them.

I still have Bobrin around, and have no plans of changing that. And maybe I'd be interested in play in the Dale semi-regularly again. Maybe I'll log on to him a bit more.

Eli seems to have been bitten by the travel bug once more. He is seen regularly traveling from the ruins of Guldorand, to the Dale (where he lingers for a time), to Cordor, and occassionally pulling out his portal wand to go elsewhere.

*the following notice appears on the noticeboard in the Hinn Inn:*

Residents of Bendir Dale -

It has been some time since I arrived on this isle, walking the roads, grasslands and farmlands of our wondrous home. But more often than I would like I have wondered - why has the mood doured so?

While this would normally be a long conversation involving some mood-lowering topics in general, I find myself thinking of a better way to gather and bring ourselves joy in this, our momentous life.

As many of you already know, in roughly two tendays Midsummer will arrive, and this year bring with it the celebration of Shieldmeet. Therefore, I would like to propose that we all join together in feast, love, laughter and joy on this day.

I myself will attempt to gather provisions and artwork to assist in everyone's mirth, and for each individual that attends, my heart would soar all the higher.

Thusly I invite all of you (and your friends, if possible) to gather on Midsummer and Shieldmeet, that for a few days we may forget our troubles and lose ourselves in happiness and friendship.

- Wadrana Lane

//This will be set for July 31st, naturally, though if interested parties could help me figure out a proper exact time that's good for all of us, that'd be helpful. Also, those attending are welcome to bring food, artwork, bards, magic, et cetera. Whatever boosts the mood!

Same. I was excited about some of the changes & was really looking foward to playing again & then I logged on & noticed some NWN mechanics changes that just killed it for me. So, yea unless some things change I won't be back & frankly I don't see those changes happening.

One of the guards at the gates would be handed a letter by a man wearing the livery of Tempus. The guard would simply leave it on the desk in the City Hall, for official hands to read and respond to.

Mayor of Bendir Dale,

I am writing to request your participation in the Foehammer's Festival, my lord has tasked me with the honour of finding the strongest, most competent warrior of Faerun. To this end I request that you send three champions of varying experience to fight for the glory of your people, should you wish to speak more on this I will gladly attend or send a representative in my stead.

A scruffy leather bound journal

Hour One

"Two Hundred hours of community service"

It took a while for this statement from Missus to register. Two hundred was such a huge number. A small part of me wanted to tell her where she could shove that two hundred hours, that I had already served nearly a year long ban, on top of the huge donation I still have to pay, that two hundred hours was simply too much. But I gritted my teeth. I wanted to return home.

What is community service exactly? I've been pondering that over and over in my head.
It can be handed down as a form of punishment or it can be a selfless act performed by what I'd consider "Wealthy Do-Gooders with too much time and coin on their hands". The type of folk who just want everyone to tell them how good they are, how selfless. Basically blow smoke up their ass.

Tasked with Patrolling the roads and outskirts that surround the Dale each landmark, road, cliff, river and house seem to stir a memory or a flashback. Some good. Some not so good.

The next few months could be very very long.

A letter sent to 'Morgan & Sons Employee' to the leader of Bendir.

"Dear... Well dear whoever is in charge of this place, i don't live here anymore.
Two very fast... i mean very fast.. people just like, totally attacked me. They were blabbing about getting rid of users of the weave. They call themselves 'The Red Hand'.
It was one male and one female:
The female was a wood elf with long coppery red hair and bronze skin. She had leaves entwined in several strands.
And... i think the male was a human. He had blonde hair and an eye-patch (i think, i totally forgot). They both wore red hoods and cloaks.
So please spread the word, make sure people are aware of 'The Red Hand', especially weavers!"

Rosary Doodlekins, just a random hin...
*draws a big round smiley face coloured in pink; and eyes and mouth in black*

[OOC]
Doesn't involve Bendir so i couldn't put it in the report box, Bendir just happened to be the closest place nearby.

Alright, my time has been hit or miss in recent months due to job changes, summer, and whatnot but I've been around on Missus quite a bit the past few weeks and what I'm seeing is a mostly empty Dale.

There have been several nights like tonight when I log on for an hour and take laps around the Dale without meeting a soul. I've a few small ideas spurred by that general discussion thread about making RP hubs into RP hubs again so here it goes. These are in no particular order and are for generating discussion. They also would require RP of course and some area update work if approved.

1) TRAVEL: Move the Amian Cart Service back to the corner between the Main Gate and the Orchards and allow the passengers to exit the Cart at the Cart Service Area, rather than dumping them off near the Frontier Border. Having the carts leave passengers nearer to the gate may result in a few more actually coming in the gates or interacting with other PC's. This is basically a return to the prior setup, although moving the carts a bit closer to the corner would be my preference.

2) JOBS: Plant Cherry trees and Grape Vines in the space where the cart service is currently setup or in the orchard area. Having a couple more potential job system opportunities would encourage friendly orcharders to hang around more. There used to be cherries in the past if I'm not mistaken and Bendir is supposed to have an agricultural motif.

3) TRADE: Expand one of the turf houses to serve as a common tradehouse, and convert the other to meeting space or housing. Put a sign out front. There are quite a few merchants in the Dale, but I'm not sure new folks know the diversity of goods offered. You could have Jayek, Kibs, Muck, and Dunkar in one space and get Jayek and Dunkar out of the rain. All Dale merchants should offer favorable reactions to Dwarves, Hin, Gnomes, and Fey. Make Muck a random merchant like Muhm in Ne'sek, in addition to his standard goods. None of them offer significant gold maximums on buying goods so the appeal would need to be on selling variety and convenience.

These are just a few potential catalysts that a town official might consider to make the town more accessible and friendly to travelers, but we'd need to actually come up with some RP ideas, and spur activity in the area as players.

All comments welcome.

Remove the loitering and no head gear law is what I'd recommend, they were temporay fixes to a temporay problem, and their removal would likely help get people back.

Maybe. The original purpose they were moved was to solve the conflict outside the gates with the usual PvP drama and bullshit everyone always complained about, since groups who enjoyed starting senseless conflict knew it was the best place to hang around in due to heavy traffic there. Laurel solved the issue by placing the carts far away and having people dumped at the edges of the north and south transitions.

I remember it being the best idea ever brought and implemented since the drama and "OOC" problems went down significantly. Sure, you still had the occasional persistent people lingering outside trying to get attention, ones casting area of effect spells to lure people outside, or "huggers" that hugged the walls to see what was going on outside, but it wasn't as bad.

It could be given a shot. I suppose drama and bullshit is better than complete, utter boredom and inactivity.

That might be nice. I'm guessing you're referring to a layout similar to the Market Hall in Cordor, different stalls in corners but manned by Jayek and the others: offering medical supplies and potions on one end, weapons on the other, etc.

It would certainly solve the issue of people just waltzing in like they own the place, ignore any and all who are there, and head straight to barter with Jayek. Instead, they would "WTF? WERE IZ TEH HAFLING HOO SELZ ME CHEEP KRAP?!" and be engaged in conversation on where he is now, why it changed, and blah blah blah. Conversation starter, I guess.

It may just be and my bitter experiences or feelings about it, but I honestly don't think this is the problem. The few times I play as my Halfling and spend an entire server cycle (4 hours), I witness people (few, I'll admit) come in and just walk straight to Jayek while fully armored and armed. Similar to the previous comment above about walking in like they own the place, people don't bother to read the laws and regulations, so the "No Helmet" thing isn't a problem. They come into town with helmet or hood and weapon and leave just the same, removing them only for the sake of being able to exit through the gates.

The loitering law, I cannot say. Even when it first started, we still had people linger outside all the time. It was when some of us stopped bitching at them about it, creating conflict to amuse them, and started ignoring their antics that they eventually began to leave.

The loitering law was to stop the constant stupid dumb slaver attacks in front of NPC guards, it was only ever a temporay measure, or at least was meant to be, I'm pretty certain its the reason it killed the dale as an RP hub, which is why Pils is gathering dust now, there's never anyone around, even the combo swearing tear your hair out shouting RP was fun, kinda, but if people see "Don't hang here" their first instinct is to leave, and when those people left, the new people see no one in the area and move on. Killing it.

I'll just go ahead and be perfectly blunt here, and hope you all accept my ranting in the spirit of constructive criticism in which it was intended. :)

I agree with Dayfer: I can't understand how it's possible to argue that the reason that people left can be anything other than WE FREAKING TOLD THEM TO. We ordered the Dale to become a dead zone. We were even all diligent about doing it completely IC, so it was all proper and legit. We posted it on our law signs, law number eleven. No loitering. The Dale is the only place in the server with a law like that: an IC law specifically and generally banning any and all RP from occurring in an ostensibly public place, regardless of whether it's RP the Dale should be welcoming IC (like PC merchants, for example), and regardless of it being a major travel route.

We told people to leave, so they left. It's really as simple as that.

Maglorine, as to your original post: my original reply was kind of snarky, but I stand by the sentiment behind it. If the PC playing the Mayor wants stuff changed, then really, there's nothing stopping that from happening. Seriously, call a meeting IC to talk about how to fix stuff, and Daisy will be there. All the stuff on the list you wrote has enough merit to be worth talking about, but I think it's also all stuff that needs to be done IC. The first point about the carts will certainly need Yoss's Cart Services NPC to be at least involved, if not present IC. I imagine #2, about planting orchards, will take the same sort of IC effort as it took to bring an Ingredients Merchant to the Dale. And #3 isn't going to be something that can happen without Jayek, Muck, Kibs, and Dunkar having their IC say. And if the Mayor agrees that some of the Dale's current laws are harming the Dale, then just repeal them. You don't need anybody's permission, you're the Mayor. Just post a sign saying "Laws number X, Y, and Z are hereby suspended, by order of the Mayor." Missus can do that, you know.

Which only shows that you have no idea what that law even means.
We never pushed people away. (Except the annoying people we WANTED away.)
We invited them INSIDE Bendir Dale, away from the slaver attack zone.
And RP flourished after that. The RP only really died down when the core group of RPers left due to all the BS that kept happening. It was like everyone was doing their best to kill the RP in the Dale and finally succeeded.

I have an excellent idea what the law means. I play one of the few active members of the Dale militia that's responsible for enforcing the law, and I witnessed precisely how it was enforced, many times. Even if it was intended to only target the "bad guys," that's not how it was implemented. PC merchants were harassed and driven off, people just standing around having innocent conversations on the hills outside the gates were told to take their business elsewhere.

You're perfectly correct about what the law was *intended* to do. What we actually ended up doing with it was very, very different.
