After a brief visit to the Amian Isles, the seemingly out of place Mulan returns to the Djedet area, making it known that he will make himself available to meet with this "Sekhry". Whoever that might be.

Ulrik, now a common sight on the sands of Djedet, would be sure to greet Ranallas, and take time to direct him to the sekhry's home. He is sure to affirm to the younger wizard, quietly, that the sekhry is 'a wise and honorable man.' He also pays another colleague of his a visit, although it is a short chat with the gnomish magician, Tuomas.

He also spends time in the market, his keen eye looking to purchase small crystal orbs. As he frequents the markets, he attempts to engage the merchants in the tongue of the Mulhorandi. Progress, perhaps, although he would clearly need a lot more practice.

The first shipment from the Knights of the Triad arrived and the Visier and her "servant are hard at work cataloging the shipment and storing it with the rest of the supplies in the complex...

when all was said and done... it was a weeks worth of food and water and some healing kits.

The familiar copper kin Zelly can be seen going around Djedet with a cheerful expression, speaking respectfully with the locals and with the other Chosen and the Feathersworn. She seems eager to make others see that there is someone at least with high spirits. Occasionally, however, a look of concern crosses her face as she gazes beyond the walls, as if looking for someone.

Salema appears to continue her odd daily, daylight-long disappearances into the desert. What she is looking for or doing is perhaps a mystery, as she is rarely seen save from glimpses and when she makes a brief stop in to Djedet again, still warded by her powerful enchantments. It is not long before she is out again, disappearing on whatever mission she might be on, and it would be noted that during these times she appears more tired and weighted than her usual self.

Asiya would do as asked by the member of House Osirant... the meat *if any* would be put aside for further inspection... though it would seem clear Asiya appreciates the caution of Imhotep.

Ulrik, appearing rather pensive, was seen departing Djedet via ley-line, absconding in wisps of cyan. Though, the few who he had spoken to prior, would know he would return soon enough. . .

While sitting in his small residence in Djedet, going over some notes an odd thought occured to him which made him suddenly spring to action, writing a note and requesting it be sent to Ranallas with all haste, afterwords going through his portable Alchemist's lab and searching it for specific components.

Talyne is seen bunked in a corner of a complex, crying softly to herself for some reason or another until late into the night. If asked she cites a lack of sleep, and doesn't seem terribly inclined to speak further of the issue. The next morning she seems entirely composed once more, with perhaps a bit more hardness in her eyes.

Asiya would stir awake at the sounds... she would stare at the ceiling at first and then sit up running her fingers across her shaved head as she looked for the source... her eyes taking some time to adjust to the darkness she would finally see and hear where it is coming from... she would move over to taylne and offer some soothing words... though she would not pry into the matter...

Having become a constant (if distant) sight in Djedet over the last couple weeks, Ranallas would not have been seen yesterday in the Khem region, though it likely took a day for anyone to even begin to notice. Sure enough, he is not seen this day either. The last anyone would have seen of him was shortly after receiving a letter, and quickly packing his belongings.

Zelly is quick to notice Ranallas gone, but for some reason she doesn't seem surprised at all. She merely sighs and continues going about her daily routine.

Tuomas having recieved a reply from Ranallas quietly seems to begin going over notes and diagrams provided to him. In the meantime, he also finishes going over some notes sent to him from abroad, obviously thoughtful about their contents.

Within a quiet corner in a humble abode in the sands of Djedet, Ulrik begins casting a Mending cantrip over what is surely just tattered remains of some old cloth. His work is careful, and, meticulous, and it would be obvious that he handled it with respect.

In the corner, behind him, propped up against the wall casually, is a simple stick, with a feather etched into it at each end.

Late at night, after returning from a brief departure with Ulrik, Zelly enters the home rented in Jackie's name and quietly seeks out the bed nearest the fireplace. She doesn't bother anyone else who may be present and simply lies down. Her sleep is fitful and she doesn't appear to rest well at all, but she continues to keep to herself, insisting to anyone who asks that she simply had a long day.

She spends most of the following day indoors. She seems sullen at times, but mostly sets it aside for a forced smile when approached.

Taking time from his studies, Ulrik would be seen delivering a note to the sekhry's residence. He would also be sure to see that a certain sullen copper-kin found a plate of the rawest fish available. After seeing to these things, he would depart the sands via the ley, saying he had to ''refer to his own tomes'' on a matter of research, and that he was going to ''spend some time with his family.'' He promises, however, to return shortly.

For a solid twelve hours Talyne would be seen sitting on a rock in Djedet by the merchant stalls. She was dressed in rags, with a strip of cloth tied over her mouth, her cheeks smudged with ash in an exaggerated caricature of a beggar. The merchants nearby might whisper that she shoved a fistful of dirt and ash in her mouth before tying the rag. Propped against the rock would be a sign, the glyphs reading:

"For crossing the lines of caste, and disrupting the harmony of the township I sit upon this rock for the next half-day, with the taste of earth to remind me of my place. May the words of of ~any~ who bring disharmony turn to ash in their throat."

The young druidess seems to struggle to breathe occasionally, gagging and retching, though despite the severity of the punishment her spirits seem unconquerable. In the long hours under the sun, the sign is soon covered with flowery designs drawn with ash, then the rock she sits upon. Finally, even her small sand creeper companion suffers from the young girl's boredom, becoming decorated in all manner of ashen flowers across his broad scales. As soon as the sun dips below the horizon, she bounds off the rocks and immediately retches painfully over the town fence, before disappearing inside.

A small figure, wrapped in white linens, brings water to Talyne. When her time of punishemnt is over, the water Akirishepsut left is there, cooled by a stone bowl and shade, and flavoured with ginger to prevent stomach cramps after a long day of heat.

Tari keeps an eye on her friend as she goes about finalizing the preparations of her wedding to Imhotep. She pauses to read the sign at one point, pointing out quietly, that not -everyone- causing disharmony is being punished. At another point noting Talyne's boredom, Tari goes outside the gates and lures her friend's sand creeper companion inside to stay with her, for once not caring of the looks the people give her as she tries to convince the obstinate creature to Talyne's side.

After the sun sets, she and Kala help Talyne clean up and take her inside Kafele's to get quietly tipsy on palm wine. Nothing is said of Talyne's 'crime'.

Jud can be seen quietly observing Talyne's punishment occasionally, a frown on his face. After asking Azizi to translate the hieroglyphs on the sign for him, he goes off to find Mahir.

Mahir explains quietly to Jud in his home his sorrow at the ordeal. That though she spoke true the cosmic harmony is upheld because of the caste system and she spoke out of it. That Tauronemehet had ordered a penance paid and he was a soldier obeying the command of those above him. But it had to be done.

Ulrik appears to have returned to the sands, only to seclude himself behind locked doors. He is seen only when he is taking a break to eat, or, getting fresh air. He would explain to any that inquire, that simply, his research was demanding his time and attention.

Perhaps he is simply focused. Though, those who might know the magician well enough to see through his facades - notably those who knew him when he was Headmaster of the Monolith - would also be able to tell he is troubled about something.

Though Ranallas had entered the town that day with a bit of a spring in his step and excitement at some project or another seeming to go well, that changed quickly when he witnessed the start of Talyne's penance.

Loud words were spoken, and at one point some of the merchants might remember seeing him strike Talyne's back in an attempt to get her to spit out the wad of ash before the strip of cloth had been tied over her mouth.

When it became clear he could not dissuade her, he walked straight out of Djedet with an unusual hardness to his normally kind and curious eyes.

Asiya when seen would be a bit more reserved and contemplative now... she clearly knew that Taylne would face some penance for her action.. and she made no move to stop it other a public forgiveness for the outburst when it did happen... but it clearly had an impact on her.

The familiar copper kin named Zelly is scarce in the streets of Djedet. Within the home owned by the wetlanders though she is curled up on a pile of cushions, ill. She doesn't eat much at all and it seems that sleeps through most of the day. In the morning, she weakly writes a letter and sends it with a messenger, to whom she offers additional coin to translate for her.

She remains on that pile of cushions for the majority of a few days now...

Sir Justin Fairfax and those volunteers who join the Triadic relief effort to supplies to Ne'sek and Djedet are a familiar sight. He makes sure there is no meat in the supplies.

Each trip he is careful to learn and respect the Mulhorandi customs. Was it mere chance or was it that the Triad moved him and Sally Grubbins Torrowfire to arrive for the wedding of Imhotep and Nefertari.

Mis-directed by the guard of Djedet to take this supply to the Djedet leaders at the Temple of Eight, Sir Justin and Salley waited outside the temple. It was then that Sir Justin thought to have heard Imhotep's voice. Then the sound of combat in the Whispering Rift but he waited asking the priest if he wished aid.

It was the knight came to learn part of the marriage custom for the groom to win his way to claim his wife. Sir Justin was glad not to have interfered and stood aside. To wait once more for the priest to return with his bride. Then it was a matter of following the the couple back to Djedet as they completed that part of the marriage custom.

Supplies and wedding gifts presented along with Sally's clear and wonderful singing of the Mulhorandi music made for a very blessed day for all.

The Mystran magician who frequents the sands might be seen walking through Djedet in new attire. His blue silken shirt seems to be replaced by garb that has a distinct ancient Mulhorandi style. However, it is equally reminiscent of the garb of Halruaan mages, for those who might recognize such.

He is still rather reclusive, working on 'his research.' Though he can be seen, occasionally, stretching his legs and conversing with folks of Djedet, usually in their own tongue. It seems he has learned most of the language, though when he speaks, it is with a distinct 'wetlander accent.'

As for a particular sickly copper-kin, she would find a bowl of broth or some fish brought to her at least once a day. Its clear Ulrik is concerned.

After the wedding ceremony, Kala can be seen bringing remaining food (which is pretty much almost all of it) to the refugees and distributing it as needed. After that, she would start a patrol around the township, checking for possible troublemakers.

Salema happily attended the wedding, drinking in the sights of her past as she did and admiring the differences. She was a bit quieter than usual, more reserved, and simply offered Imhotep and Nefertari some kind words and a simple blessing before leaving them be.

During the wedding reception Theebe notices a knight, loaded with supplies. She has a number of slaves take the bags, six of them each with six food ration kits and two waters and place them in the storehouse. There were no meat items within the supplies she noted, as had previouslybeen requested.

A bag of coin totalling 500,000 coins was also received.

Mahir is completely absent from the wedding proceedings. Armed with khopesh, shield, and a days Spartan rations he takes to the field. Seen in the desert or the cliffs over djedet. He was on guard.

Ulrik also missed the celebration. Of late, he has been even more scarce, amid his research and 'other matters.' However, to the newlyweds residence, a neat, handwritten letter of congratulations from Ulrik is delivered, wishing the couple 'long, happy years together.'

Salema, though she hasn't been spending her days in the desert like she had been, is seen only here and there. Though she speaks normally and always appears happy and with a smile, one could see a more troubled look on her face when she is either not paying attention or busying herself with something.

If anyone were to look at her left hand, upon the ring finger would be a dazzling green ring that had never been there before. Often, sometimes when she is looking troubled and in thought, she would glance down at the ring, smile to herself, and run a finger over it as she watches the light from her other usual ring shine off it.

Zahra stands by the gates of Djedet, awaiting the return of Mahir from a patrol. Occasionally a tear would fall from her eyes, but she would hastily wipe it away, hoping it was not seen.

The Sekhry is seen just outside of town working with Fu'murik on the proper use of a shield. He seems to be swinging hard on the young boy. Anyone watching would see that he is attempting to teach the boy to learn when to duck, step out of the way, and step back instead of always using the shield.

Salema spends the day out in the sands again, off on her own and doing the gods only know what. Later that day, she returns and keeps to her thoughts mostly. It's not long before she starts to look for Talyne, though oddly she mostly keeps an eye out and makes quiet inquiries to the people of Djedet and the caravan masters, though she would approach Tari if she happened upon her as well.

After a short meeting with Jud'Vardas and Talyne, Nefertari can be seen writing some notes and posting them to various authorities in Djedet, mostly those of a clerical persuasion with a few notable additions.

After spending the day in the relatively silent Academy hall assembling the various components of the purifier into it's three primary sections for transport, Ranallas tucks each away as carefully as he's able. The boiler, steam tank and pure reservoir are all carefully wrapped with dense cloth to block out any sand or ash that is no doubt blowing around his destination.

With a few castings of Bull's Strength memorized, ...Gods this is heavy... he moves out of the Academy and into the streets of Kohlingen. Flagging down a messenger he passes over an earlier written note and a few gold coins (likely making the messenger's week) with instructions to deliver it just across the way to Drerem.

With a tap of the portal wand hanging from his belt, he steps onto the sands of Khem a few moments later, bundle of parts strapped securely to his back. Likely a fairly odd sight as he walks towards Djedet, he would pause to ask one of the guards at the gate in Common if they know the whereabouts of Aoth.

A day passes without Ulrik being seen on the sands of Djedet. And, after a brief visit, so might another pass. A short note is left in the compound, both in common and Mulhorandi.

Friends,

While I pursue my studies into the gems we have uncovered, and their purpose in the task that lie before us, I must ask you forgive my short absence. My work aside, my daughter has grown ill. While I am assured by my wife that it is temporary, I would prefer to be at hand until she is well and recovered. Therefore, my research and study that I would conduct in Djedet, I have brought to the keep in Kohlingen.

I hope to join you all again shortly. Hopefully, with results of my work. Should I be needed, I can be reached at the keep directly.

Mystra's blessings,
`Ulrik

*The Triadic Knight often arrives and often leaves Djedet. His mood is getting worse and worse every time when he returns, he does not really speak with anyone but Zelly and Ulrik. Whenever he is muttering to them one can always catch a few word about lilitu demons, insane Cordorians, colonization, Banites, Arcanum, wizards and bankrupcy.*

Seeing the knight's mood and his irritation Mahir pens a simple letter and leaves it in the Township Complex.

Quote:
Grandmaster Yaston.

I would speak with you when you are able, honored knight.

The quiet druidess looks up from her daydreams as the gate swings up, rising from the bench in front of the tavern. She strides over the mage, though her thoughts seems to be elsewhere.

"I got your note. Here, let me take one of those bundles."

She slips a hand under one of the straps and hoists a bundle onto her own shoulder with surprising poise;

"Where did you intend on taking these? Lead on, and we'll see what can be done."

Her voice has a quiet melancholy to it.

At first the young man seems hesitant to release his burden, but eventually gives in to rid himself of some of the weight.

If it is permitted, setting up near enough to the walls that the guard might keep an eye on it, but far enough so that any malfunction won't potentially harm anyone, would be ideal. He thought for a moment as they walked through town, Perhaps somewhere on the riverbank itself.

With permission to start assembly, a spot picked out, and a good night's rest after the previous night's unsettling events, the fledgling artificer buckled down and set about his task.

At dawn he walked back into town with yet another bundle strapped to his back - this one of canvas - and moved out towards the western gate. Just slightly south along the riverbank, he dropped his bundle to the ground and set about pitching the tent he'd brought with him, offering a brief greeting to Guard Khai.

With the tent pitched, he walked into Morgan & Sons and began making a few trips back and forth, carting out the various pieces of the device under Khai's watchful gaze.

With all of the pieces gathered, protected by the environment as best as possible by the tent, and protected from any other threats by the town guard, Ranallas set about the arduous task of assembling the device. Despite what would likely take him the best part of the day to complete, any who happened to walk by would see an occasional smile between looks of concentration, clearly enjoying his work.

After the long trek across the desert, marred with many battles with swarms of jackals and other fiendish creatures, the Mulhorandi made it back more or less in one piece. In the comfort of her rented room, Salema collapsed, too tired after the exhausting battle to do much more. It had been a long time since she had endured such fighting, even though she was relegated to healing and only the limited offensive spells she normally prepared, and she was glad that it was done with for the night.

But she remembered Talyne, her friend, falling in the midst of a pile of those jackals... dying before she could reach her. She could only wonder if she had been faster would she have made it in time. Salema had resurrected her body back to life, but that did nothing to assuage her grief. And so, not even having the strength to remove her armor, she shed silent tears in her moment of sorrow before drifting into darkness.

Aoth would contantly make his way around to where Ranallas is constructing the device. He offers his hand and wisdom in aid. He would continue on with his studies, seeming preoccupied with many tasks at once

Ranallas would graciously and even a bit excitedly accept the offered help, though not monopolizing Aoth's time by any means. He might ask for a hand here or there, fitting this bit of piping or asking how best to secure this section of tank in the shifting sands. Aoth's ear would be bent with questions of Thoth whenever they were working together, the artificer showing a keen interest.

Bit by bit as the day progresses, the device begins to take shape. Ranallas would purchase a few bits of wood from the town itself to help build extra supports, not having anticipated the challenges much more loose, sandy ground presents.

Anyone passing by would begin to see a rough design begin to take shape, with one medium-sized, iron tank providing much of the device's base, leading up to a larger iron tank. This larger tank would be capped with a pointed dome, with two mithril pipes running from the bottom; one leading to what looks to be an open spigot. The other pipe would lead slightly down, and then curve back up, to a much smaller tank perched higher than the main body of the device. Several valves would also be visible, the whole of the device standing about a head higher than an average man...

...a truly strange contraption.

After a couple of days of work, the assembly seems to be complete, leaving a very odd looking contraption next to the riverbank, in the shade of a tall palm tree just south of the western gate.

Though it seems by all appearances to be fully constructed, Ranallas would ask Guard Khai to make sure no one fiddles with or tries to operate it, saying that it's still missing two key components.

//Nothing placed IG yet, but this screenie from the toolset is posted with Mosh's approval to give some indication of what anyone passing by would see.
