The Practitioners of Magic

-The Wizard
A Wizard is an adept of magic who has earned their right to practice the arcane not through blood, but through rigorous study. Wizards are usually calmer than their sorcerer counterparts, and rely on logic and reason, rather than sheer emotion. A wizard keeps with them a substantial spell book, each spell being practiced to perfection or at least near enough to be cast.

-The Sorcerer
A Sorcerer or Sorceress is an arcane Magi who does not practice magic through books and study, but through natural means, such as a sorcerer with a drop of draconic blood flowing in their veins uses it as a catalyst to power their spells. They are seen to be more headstrong, and less controlled with their magic, often scorned upon by Wizards, irritated that they can do what they do without such study, some deeming them unworthy of having access to such magic.

The container and its keys

All spells require components to work, most require a verbal component and a gesture, some more powerful spells however require material components, such as sands of time for the spell timestop.

However, these are not all that is needed, these are in fact, but the key to a container, a container already filled with the knowledge of the weave to alter reality. When these keys are used the container is opened and unleashed, creating the famous, or infamous, affects we see by the most prominent, and the most fledgling Mage.

Further Divination

In studying the forms of Divination, one finds that its key theories and concepts are not too different from the concept of an Elven life bond. Sympathetics. Wherein spells such as scrying are wholly dependant on them. To understand examples are used. For example, were we living a month or so past and I was trained in magics, and I was to cast a scrying on Lyam, I would have been able to see him in an instant and with great potency. However, were I to cast such on say, Arion, the spell would be much less potent, and even less so if cast on on someone I have met briefly in passing.

This is why people often keep items of that person for use in scrying them, it helps the caster create a sympathetic link with them, even if its but a thread, it still aids in the spell. Of course scrying one you know well, and intimately does not take any item as the sympathetic bond, is more like an admantine chain.

Magical Theory

The Weave
The weave is the body of power from where most magic comes from. The Weave is magic, and Magic, is the weave. Spells are formed from it, using components to unlock the path to it, and forming a spell. Everything from creating light, to creating a massive fireball stems from the weave. There is, of course, also the shadow weave, however its use creates an addiction lest you are a devout of Shar. One that consumes your mind and bars you from the true weave. A harsh price to pay.

The Restrictions
However should the weave be limitless there's nothing to stop a true power hungry Mage from engulfing toril in flames, raising whole cities, and destroying life as we know it. Which is why Mystra has restricted the weave, so only a certain power can be taken from it.

The difference between the Arcane, and the Divine
The Arcane caster uses his own knowledge, or instinct to draw power from the weave. A Divine caster however, uses their patron to, however their patron still utilises the weave. An Arcane Caster is more versitile, however Divine Casters have greater access to the Conjuration and Necromancy Spell Schools.
