~Style is a simple way of saying complicated things.~
~ By Lady Las'Claianna Le'Quella

Quote:
During the years of Cordor's 'Commonwealth' the IT style has had a great change. A fervor and lifestyle seems to have taken hold and this is seen in the streets. Ladies and gentlemen wearing expensive materials such as silk, lace, velvet, satin to mention but a few. The fashion commonly seen upon nobles has made way to the merchant families: bustiers to make the figure more tempting to the eye underneath the dress, feathered caps, riding boots and rare dyes for more impressive look. The fashion trend can be described as "bargain bourgeois". Men wear loose-fitted cloth tunics, the detailing only naturally hand-crafted, while those with less to show off, shirt and vest is a common combination, or a shirt with surcoat. Slacks and simple trousers are dominant legwear now. But, you can easily spot those who are known and famous, their attire are far more stunning. If you really are anyone in Cordor, your clothing is custom-tailored and the overall looks simply screams individuality and style! The question of durability or how convenient such clothes are, remains unasked. All what matters is that you stand out if you really are anyone to be in the know. While none seem to admit it, Cordor Commonwealth consumes for the sake of conspicuous consumption of Fashion.

Men, they always have the easy way out. Just take a look around the Cordorian women and you can tell the time and effort they take daily to simply take a stroll about the City of Water. The attires are far more complicated and there seems to be certain styles deriving from each part of the city. The women of South District are simple and low key. Skirts are made short, tight leggings, loose-fitted blouses, half-coats and clothes that depend on great numbers of small accessories to enchant the appearance. Easter District women are traditional and crisp. Regardless, great sums are spent on their cloths as they rarely are of low quality work. While the range varies from evening gowns to masculine pantsuits with long goats, but note a small detail, the ladies of East Cordor's long goats never have a tail. The Central Cordor is the most 'industrial' section, and does not really have a sense of fashion, it seems more of a boiling pot of the other streets. Western district is the nouveau riche portion of the city and arguably the most bourgeois area of Cordor, which can be suspected to be due to the roots as a noble district in the past. However, Western Cordor's ladies style is one of the most expensive styles in Cordor. The necklines are low, short sleevers, tight bodices, trumpeted skirts, crenoline; headwer for women are very prominent in the west, from hats to bonnets to floral arrangement. Now, if you want to see dull, head to North district where the definition of a "farmgirl wear" comes to blossom. Very much leather or cloth, frumpier than in the city proper, altogether poorer and humbler. Yawn!

Overall, the most popular materials are cloth and leather. Number of accessories such as boots, belts, gloves and hats are made of the most common materials, as are majority of goats and pants. The leather is of decent quality, treated, colored, stripped and at times lacquered. While, these styles are prominent, it must be noted that today the distinction between poorer and richer Cordorians are hard to discern. The middle class is booming in Cordor, one which outranks both end of the spectrum. Wealth is in the hands of merchants, and their style can be mostly described with word 'austerity'. The style of wealthy people is more reserved and conservative, perhaps the Cordorian mentality of "Stiff upper lip" comes to play here.

OOC: Thanks to Yossarin for providing the information upon the fashion in Cordor. I simply edited that information in some parts to fit how my character would represent it. I might expand this work later on. In addition, the quote (title) is not my own making, but is by Jean Cocteau.
