After one extensive cycle looking important and busy in the Headquarters, Naltyrr can be seen with an over-sized leg bone with a bat hanging off the end of it, instead of his usual wizard-looking staff, leaving the Headquarters. Shortly after onlookers may observe the Sut'rinos drinking far too much alcohol in the Tradehouse; grumbling about conspiring subordinates, devious (but blessed and perfect of course!) spiders hoarding artifacts and illithids needing knives stabbed into them.

There is a brief moment of generosity where he buys everyone a round of drinks before he makes his way back to the Lolarox Compound, the same bat circling overhead above him, no doubt about to move on to spewing verbal abuse about sorcerers and deriding the supposed usefulness of Conjuration school of magic.

Naltyrr becomes a scarcer sight around Nec'perya, he spends much of his time cooped up in Vanguard Headquarters.

Late in the cycle Il’haress Lolarox entered the temple to make her offerings to the Dread Queen. As she stood before the Queen’s altar, spider dagger poised above her own forearm, she was interrupted by a voice from behind.

“Vendui, yathabban. Do I interrupt your ritual?”

The dagger paused just before it could pierce the skin. Its wielder spun on the interruption with a growl. “You DARE to interrupt a sacrifice to the Dread Queen?” The young jalil murmured something else incoherent that included calling the Priestess ‘yathabban’ again. G’eld’ardul’s voice echoed off of the walls. “Yathtaller!” She narrowed her eyes. Her voice was full of menace. “Get Out, before you take the place of what is on the altar.”

When the offering was complete, G’eld stalked from the sanctified room to find the girl. The elder priestess wrapped her claws into the girls hair and dragged her to the temple notice board. The young priestess was forced to her knees and made to recite all of the names and ranks of the Yath, beginning with the Ul’ath’taller. Afterward, she was shackled to the pillar in the center of the Temple, and left unconscious. The il’haress strolled casually from the temple, paused to speak in her normal solicitous manner with any of the locals she might pass, and then returned to her home to make sure the carpets had been cleaned in the manner she preferred.

If inspected the young priestess remained shackled in the temple. She had several viper bites on her neck, as well as bruising that seemed to have been caused by something roughly the same diameter as the python that was always wrapped around G’eld’ardul’s waist.

After an hour-long chat with the young Phaer'thrae, that seemed pleasant by Yath standards, Yath'taller G'eld'ardul breezed out of the temple. She spoke her instructions to the Spider Guard as she left.

Give her water twice a day. No food, and anyone that removes her shackles will answer to me.

It would not be long before the Ul'ath'tallar was made aware of the visitor within the Temple. In fact, the sounds of the shouts before had reached her ears, for Zrae had been above within the upper floor addition to the Temple doing ... something. For many, many cycles she would have been located within, though it was mysterious as to why she was apparently self-cloistered within the Ul'ath'tallar's quarters. She did not spend all her time within, for she used the prominent altar room and still made her quiet, lurking rounds about the city.

But, indeed, she had heard. And as was her way she eventually took the time from whatever she was doing in apparent solitude to investigate the main floor of the Valsharess' Temple. The sight amused her and whether the shackled occupant saw the armored priestess or not she stood in the distance watching her, silent and foreboding, before smirking and turning with a flourish of her cloak and heading back to her chambers.

Silently, carefully the webs are woven. It took patience, something which the Ul'ath'tallar had in abundance. The shackled woman would be tended to in due time, but for now Zrae had other things far more pressing on her mind.

The young yath, Phaer'thrae, utters the words "A verve vaen," as one of the spider guards brings her the water ordered by G'eld'ardul. The yath had been kneeling in quiet meditation since G'eld'ardul left her chained and shackled there, but when she uttered these words, she opened her red eyes and stared straight ahead of her. She took the water, and drank it quickly, handing the cup back to the guard as if in a hurry to get back to concentrating on whatever it was she was concentrating on.

Her eyes closed slowly, and she entered a deep trance, again. Her body gently swayed back and forth, but very slowly. She uttered a single word with an entranced whisper, and as if caressing the word with her lips like a long lost lover "Jiv'elgg."

Darkness moved, and the shadows crawled with it. Obscured and only mostly hidden, a roundish female wearing a shadowy cloak around her form entered the temple and observed the scene. At first glance, the foreign figure seemed a recluse and with a robe to hide a stomach bulge, maybe that bought an explanation. As the door shut, and every attempt at subtlety fleeting along with it, the figure composed herself to make her entrance appear planned. Slowly but certainly, the shadow body turned to face them more directly, and finally it was apparent that Miz'ri had come to visit the temple.

Her eyes laid lazily on the figure in shackled against the pillar, not even bothering to say anything just yet. Her gaze was dominant and filled with ire; but for what, only the gods would be able to determine. She wore a generous robe that seemed to contour to her enlarged stomach and did not leave much guesswork about her current state of being.

Slowly, and far too dramatically, she approached the pillar and circled the female, gazing at her appearance mostly, as if judging her. Though after making the full circle once Miz'ri stopped to the female's side. Her head now sharply turned inward and directly at Phaer'thrae.

"Well.. well.. what do we have here?" Finally, she spoke slowly and with an eerie quiet, her lips forming the lightest of grins.

When the door shut, Phaer'thrae opened her eyes, ceasing her meditative prayer. She did not turn her head, but maintained her red-eyed gaze straight foreword in the direction of the altar of Lolth as Miz'ri approached. She held still so that Miz'ri could get a good look at her. She wore obsidian platemail, that was fashioned with a short plated skirt. Her strong thighs were slightly exposed above the knee of her plated boots. When Miz'ri spoke, Phaer'thrae offered a bow, and chain and platemail clamored together as Phaer'thrae cleared her throat and spoke, her voice matter of fact, yet pleasantly soft, "Phaer'thrae, a foreign yath from Menzoberranzan, who is being punished for deliberately breaking this temple's edicts, Yath'taller."

A finger crept up to her lips, and instead of shushing, she scratched slightly in thought. Miz'ri's gaze pointed down and observed her further, letting the uncomfortable silence linger in the air. As she absorbed the explanation, she looked around the temple to gaze at any witnesses. A moment passed and she continued...

"Why would you do something so foolish? What -did- you do?"

Ulviir hears of the incident and drops an usually pragmatic comment for himself.

All this nonsense is hindering the progress of the empire. She cannot be of any use shackled to a post - Give her a mission instead...

He isn't at the temple, nor anywhere close to the priestess. He simply spoke aloud about the incident in a public setting somewhere.

Phaer'thrae begins to motion her hand toward the entrance, but her arm stops as the chain pulls taut and she says, "I, an unranked citizen of Nec'perya, entered the temple without an escort in order to meet..." her voice trails off as she looks up at Miz'ri with her calm red eyes, then a slight smile cracks her lips as she says, "Dos."

Miz'ri stopped the dramatics it seemed for that brief moment. Seriousness covered her features; not that that would be any comfort to Phaer'thrae, as Miz'ri had already become too dangerously close for comfort, and her gaze often suggested that she was completely unpredictable. Still, Miz'ri patiently beamed into her.

"Me?" Her visage smirked mock seriously and showed a hint of curiosity afterwards.

"How do you even know who I am? And why me?"

On the second day of confinement Il’haress Lolarox stepped lightly and paused in front of the shackled girl. She took a mushroom from a bag in her hand and languidly plopped it into her mouth. The young priestess watched as the Yathtaller ate the mushroom, and a half smile appeared on her lips. A ribbon of seduction flowed through G’eld’ardul’s slow voice “You seem to be in a good mood for someone shackled in the Dread Queen's temple.”

The girl’s smile widened. “That is because this is where I have wanted to be since I arrived in Nec'perya.”

G’eld clicked her tongue and slipped another mushroom between her lips; chewing slowly. The younger priestess lowered her gaze to stare at the floor. “A real Yath would know that the situation you are currently in is not a good thing.” The bowed head nodded slowly.

The Yathtaller let the silence stretch out between them before she added, “Tell me why your situation is undesirable, little one.” Another plump mushroom was consumed in a rather sensuous manner. The young priestess considered her words for a moment then replied. “I am unable to perform my duties as Yath in this position.”

“Not bad.” The Yathtaller replied, and slowly drew a choice looking mushroom from the bag; holding it at eye level to the young priestess. The young girl’s left hand flinched, but remained on her thigh. Her head turned toward the mushroom. “No food, only water.”

“You live or die on my order, child. You eat or drink by my order.”

A few more questions were asked. The ilharess did not seem overly pleased with the answers. After a time she tipped the bag and allowed three mushrooms to fall to the floor in front of the young priestess. Slowly one slippered foot moved forward and pressed in an exaggerated fashion; crushing the fungus onto the smooth marble. “It would seem we have more work to do.”

G’eld’ardul glided from the temple. If word should reach her of Ul’viir’s comments, even through rumor, she would order the guards to arrest him and shackle him inside the temple beside the Yath. It would seem the normally easy-going Matron of quellar Lolarox has had enough of her problem child.

Phaer'thrae responds to Miz'ri, as her smile disappears, "I do not know you, yath'taller, I guessed your rank correctly. I guessed another yath'taller's rank wrongly, and here I am." She tugs both of her arms foreword making both of the chains shackled to her arms strain with a loud clinging sound. "I wish to meet the yath of this temple, so that I may find a proper place of rank in Nec'perya for my noble blood to occupy."

Miz'ri stared at Phaer'thrae almost in disbelief. Her crimson eyes narrowed as she spoke with her usual venom, but withholding any real anger.

"So it would seem that you've gotten your wish. You've met with yath.

If you guessed another priestesses' rank wrongly, and that ended you up in shackles, why would you presume to guess my rank for a second time? Do you think I wouldn't punish you because you're already being punished?

There's something that you're neglecting to tell me about you and your situation here, and I don't like finding these things out from others.."

Miz'ri's gaze lingered on at Phaer'thrae with typical intimidation, but ultimately, given her choice of words and demeanor, it would appear as if she was patient for the unknown.

Phaer'thrae listens intently to Miz'ri's questions, kneeling in her shackles. There is something abnormally comfortable about the way she is sitting. Upon closer observation, it can be seen she has part of her chains wedged between parts of her platemail, and she is using the wedge as a sort of pully system in order to maintain her upright posture for long periods of time. When Miz'ri is finished she says, "I prefer to greet yath by their rank to show pride and self-respect, respect and fear for the Dread Queen, and respect and fear for her yath. I do not act to avoid punishment, I act to serve Lolth. To serve Lolth in Nec'perya, I need proper access to the temple, and for that I need rank. In order to gain rank, I need to meet other high ranking yath. As you say, I have met yath, and now I sit here paying the price for that meeting until I am able to take the next step, which is obtaining rank." She pauses for a few seconds as she shifts her weight slightly and a ping of a chain on platemail is heard. A slight sigh of relief is heard from her dark lips, then she says, "As for my situation here, it is a long story. I apparently have the time to tell it," She says as she thrusts her hands foreword again making the chains strain with a pinging sound, "But I don't want to waste your precious time with my life story, unless that is what you want to hear, Yath'taller."

She grinned a moment in thought and rubbed her hands together.

"Actually, that is exactly what I want to hear."

A missive is sent to the Spider Guard in the Temple bearing the seal of Il'haress Lolarox.

The jalil in chains may be released unless another Yath is available to see to her reeducation. I have been called away on other matters.

Lolth Tlu Malla,

~ Yath'taller Il'haress G'eld'ardul Lolarox

Phaer'thrae nods at Miz'ri, then stares forward toward the altar room as if gathering her thoughts, then begins her story.

"Yath'taller, I was born to Chel'anna, the Ilharess d'Godeduis in Menzoberranzan. Gode'duis is, or was, a minor house known for its slave production. My mother does not bare jalilen very often, so on the rare occasion that she gives birth to a jalil, they are prepared for training at Arach Tinilith, and sent there when they come of age in order that Chel'anna may be succeeded by a proper servant of Queen of Spiders.

The jalilen of my house tend to take after my mother. They are obsessed with wearing silly little outfits and dresses purely to drive jalukian mad. They are constantly teasing and seducing them as if that was their purpose in life. On top of that they have very little nerve. If the slightest bit of anger or fear enters their heart, they tremble all over and scream like a banshee.

I was different. I wore the customary clothes for our house, but carried myself with pride and self-respect. Sure, I may have driven a jaluk or two crazy with some of the skimpy and flashy gowns I was given, but I knew my purpose in life was not to entertain jalukian. My purpose was to serve Queen of the Demonweb Pits. When fear, hatred, and anger entered my heart, I saved it, and locked it away in my heart like it was a valuable treasure. There have been a few times in my life and in my training when I have shown my fear, hatred, or anger, but for the most part, I am saving it for Lolth. On the glorious day that I have achieved a high rank in a drow society, brought many souls to Lolth, and it is time for me to be succeeded by another. At that time, I will be sacrificed to Dread Queen that she may savor my entire lifetime of saved up anger, fear, and hatred as I am offered to her.

I am the only jalil of the Que'llar Chel'anna to survive the training at Arach Tinilith for centuries. During my training I was given the opportunity to focus on torture techniques. This training is very dangerous and usually involves dieing at the hand of another priestess in training, and as you know, dieing in a temple of Lolth usually means the Dread Queen takes your soul, unless she, in her great wisdom, sees the potential that they can be returned to life to become a better sacrifice later on. My body and mind were broken many times, and I broke my fellow priestesses in training many times... it was glorious! I have learned so much about the depths of my soul, and of others', and I now have more space in my heart to bare my saved up anger, fear, and hatred. I am also an expert at torture techniques, and I can break a slave to the point that all they know is their master's will.

During my training I discovered that there were priestesses in training that were using a false name. I discovered this because one of them was my training partner in torture specialization at Arach Tinilith. My partner let her true name slip during an exercise, revealing that she was of the Que'llar Teken'rret. After this, I realized that my training partner had several sisters, thirteen to be exact, and they were all very strong and beautiful priestesses in training, and were receiving high honors at Arach Tinilith, and all under false names.

Teken'rret was setting a trap. In Menzoberranzan, if a house possesses few priestesses, they are considered to be weak and easily toppled, like my former house, Gode'duis, was. A house with hidden priestesses would appear weak, but actually be strong. Teken'rret had a few hidden allies as well, as I learned later, that would aid the house should they come under attack. The end goal would be to seduce another house into attacking Teken'rret. The attack would fail, with the help of the hidden allies defending it. The attacking house would then be doomed, open for attack by any house that wished to.

When I returned to my Que'llar after my training at Arach Tinilith was complete, I found my mother, Chel'anna, was planning an attack on Teken'rret. I was not shocked. My mother had many weaknesses, and one of them was that she was foolish. To this very cycle, I still do not understand how she survived training at Arach Tinilith, but she did. I did my duty as first daughter and advised her against it. I told her of the hidden priestesses in that house, the possibility that hidden allies were lying in the shadows waiting to pounce on an attacker, especially when the house was weak like ours was. My mother's argument was that I was a fool.

My mother planned her the attack on Teken'rret for several decades, all the while I fought her on the issue. Finally, she sent me, my stubborn brother Gulvyll d'Godeduis, and one of our taskmasters to L'Obsul in order to get me out of the way. She wanted to execute her foolish attack unhindered by my wise council. My mother told us her purpose for sending us to L'Obsul was that we may harvest slaves from the surrounding caverns.

Soon after we arrived, we discovered your grand city of Nec'perya.I applied to be registered as a yathabban in your city's temple, so that I can perform proper rituals there, but I received no reply from the Ul'ath'taller. Since then, I have learned through scrying that my foolish mother has attacked Teken'rret and failed. The Que'llar d'Godeduis is doomed, so I sent my mother a message through a sending spell that I am no longer her daughter and have left the house.

So you see, my situation is rather desperate. I am a noble with no rank in any city. I entered the temple when I heard from the guards that the Ilharess d'Lolarox was within, in order to introduce myself to her. In Menzoberranzan, when an Ilharess visits a temple to perform a ritual, the yathabban assist her in getting ready for the ritual. I saw the Ilharess d'Lolarox setting up a ritual in the altar room, and thought she was a yathabban assistant. I was wrong, and she rightfully put me in chains. That is my story, Yathtaller
."

Patiently, she stood watching her and listening to the story, occasionally shifting her weight around.

After the story was over, she examined a note that laid in her palm that had only entered inbetween the time it began and the time it concluded. Still looking ponderous, her crimson gaze rested on Phaer'thrae.

"It seems your situation may not be as desperate as before."

She motioned one of the temple guards and waited patiently. With a loud roll of the chain along the cold floor, Phaer'thrae would feel disconnected from the pillar.

"You're now fortunate enough to have a chance to discover exactly what it is you can offer the Dread Queen here. If feel you can be useful to me, my qu'ellar is open, with beautiful adornments and baths. It is amusing to hear the perspective from one who envies, and doesn't understand what it is to be envied."

Not too much else to say, she taunted a smirk, and a hand held her engorged side as she shifted to leave. She obviously returned to her qu'ellar.

When the shackles are removed, Phaer'thrae offers a kneeled bow as Miz'ri leaves. When Miz'ri leaves, Phaer'thrae falls too her side and begins removing her leg plates. She massages her legs for quite some time, flexing and extending her knees, apparently trying to get the blood circulation back into her feet so she can stand. She lifts herself to a kneel, on one knee and one foot flat on the floor, and signals to the spider guards to stand back and not to help her, as she wobbles for a moment. She then lifts herself to a full upright position and takes a deep breath, shaking her legs out one at a time, then exhales a sigh of relief. Phaer'thrae replaces her leg plates, and with a bow towards the altar room, she exits the temple as she says, "I think it is time for a bath."

Since Phaer'thrae's release, she has been urging ranked nobles to escort her into the temple of Lolth so that she can perform sacrifices.

The first occasion was with Xunisstra. After the priestesses exchanged a few words outside the temple, Phaer'thrae requested an escort so that she can perform a minor rite for The Queen of the Demonweb pits. Xunisstra escorted Phaer'thrae into the temple, and watched the ordeal unfold. Phare'thrae laid her platemail on the floor and donned her priestess robes. She knelt at the altar and offered up a prayer to Lolth.

"Dread Queen, your servant requires testing, yet again. I shall prove myself worthy of the rank of Yathabban in this temple by enduring your trials."

Phaer'thrae withdrew her sacrificial dagger. It had a spider handle whose legs stretched toward the blade of the dagger and turn into little blades themselves. She plunged the dagger into her arm and made a wide gash so blood generously flowed over the altar. Her face flinched with pain, but she continued the ritual, "I offer this sacrifice that you may see I am worthy of your trials."

The second occasion, Phaer'thrae was escorted by the Sut'rinos, Naltyrr. This time, Phaer'thrae had brought a bound human male into the temple for sacrifice. Naltyrr stood outside the altar room and watched the ritual as Phaer'thrae entered the altar room and removed the bindings from the human male.

The human shivered with fear, and Phaer'thrae ordered in common, "To the altar. You will now be offered to the Dread Queen." Without hesitation, the human lied down on the altar trembling with fear. Apparently, Phaer'thrae had somehow convinced the human that punishment for disobedience was worse than being sacrificed to Lolth.

Phaer'thrae withdrew her sacrificial dagger from her robes and said, "Queen of the Demonweb Pits, I offer this sacrifice to you that Nec'perya may maintain your favor, and to call upon you to test me, your servant." She rose the dagger above the human as she said, "By your tests, I will prove my strength as your priestess, and I will use my success to further your will."

With that, Phaer'thrae plunged the dagger into the human's chest, piercing his heart, and he howled with horror as his lifeblood poured out over the altar.

A shout echoed from the grounds around the leyline node, the owner of which being recognisably Naltyrr.

"IT IS ALLLIIIVVVEEEE!!"

Should anyone go to investigate, they will see that Nec'perya's adamantine golem has now at long last been activated, standing guard over the drow settlement.

After spending an extensive time with a group of drow, a mixture of priestesses and Vanguard soldiers, Naltyrr can be seen at the coast just near the Great Forge. Most of the time on his hands and knees as he scratches away at the surface of the ground with a dagger and performing the dispel spell. Eventually he takes out a kit of sorts, and starts to inscribe runes on the ground.

From inside the Temple of Nec'perya, the Yathrin Chesswae could be seen as she claimed the heart of an elf bard in sacrifice, and spoke in praise. "Lloth tlu Malla!"

The back yard of the Ussen d'Vhid house would occasionally errupt in the low groan of pleas for help. Visible from the docks is an ogre chained up against the rocks with various corpses of kobolds, goats, and other creatures around it.

Each erruption of noise is silenced by Dro, beating it into submission, or out right knocking it out.

Early in the cycle the Ul'ath'tallar can be seen with an earth elemental in tow. It keeps behind her, pausing as she does, holding a magical bag of holding in one hand. The other is used to reach into the bag. They move about the perimeter of the island, Zrae's movements slow and calm as she keeps an alert eye for the displacer beasts. Should any be noticed she would come to a stop and gesture to the elemental which would then tug a body from the bag, still fresh from death. Another gesture in the general direction of the beast and the elemental would toss it to land in the distance on the ground. Then they would continue, the feeding of a beast finished.

This would not be done in the streets of the city itself, of course.

Once the circuit is completed thrice they would head for the back of the island. There four bodies are extracted and placed on the ground, one at a time, left for the beasts to snack upon. Should anyone investigate them they would find the bodies mostly intact, skulls crushed, stripped of any equipment, and human in origin.

Zrae then took the bag from the elemental, dismissing it and heading for the Temple. Within she would offer the last of the bodies to the spiders for feeding, placing two in the altar room and another in the meeting room which she left open so they had easy access to it.

Within a half-cycle, any uneaten bodies would be rounded up by another earth elemental and disposed of, in order to prevent the smell of decay and blood to permeate the air. Similarly she would order the Temple floor scrubbed so that the traces of blood are removed to keep the area clean.

Once again the priestess would step into the Temple to perform a sacrifice of a faern who lost a challenge.
The drow was placed at the altar by a bulky drow Jak'li, but alas, the Dreaded Queen determined it was not the faern's time.
The former sacrifice was locked into the Vanguard's prison to await a proper punishment for his insolence.

A bulky human sacrifice was brought into Nec'perya by a jalil and a jaluk, Sargtlinen of the Vanguard. The priestess met the rivvil scum, which beared a mark of Tempus, and soon it was prepared to be sacrificed.

From inside the temple, the offering could be heard , "...By this unworthy sacrifice I honor You, Queen of Spiders, and beseech of you the chance to destroy my foes. Lloth tlu Malla!" As the beating heart was fed to the spiders.

~ The Raid of Endir's Point ~

The close to a dozen members of the group made their way through twisting tunnels and giant caverns that suddenly open wide before them. For the most part, the ground’s slope was barely perceptible, though at times the group climbed straight up rocky chimneys, every step, every handhold, drawing them nearer to their goal. They crossed the boundaries of claimed territories, of monsters and other races. But most wisely kept their heads hidden. Few in the Underdark would purposely intercept such a patrol.

They could slowly sense the difference in their surroundings. The depth still would have seemed stifling to a surface dweller, but those of this group were accustomed to the oppression of a thousand-thousand tons of rock hanging over their heads. They turned every corner expecting the stone ceiling to fly away into the vast openness of the surface world. An unusual cold spread throughout the caverns as they made their long journey.

Scents began to become detectable that were not of the sulfur-smelling hot winds of rising magma of the deep, but moist air scented with a hundred aromas of unknown origin. As they finally came to the end of the caverns, the strange light of the surface world was shining in through the cavern exit.

Quietly the group slid out of the caverns of Fort Summer. Even though it was the darkest time of night on the surface, the silvery orb that stood in the vast openness of the sky shrouded the frozen land brightness almost painful to bear. Hundreds of thousands lesser lights were twinkling around it. But the surface assaulted not only her eyes, but her other senses. The openness above them was unwelcoming and strange. Odd sounds of wind brushing through the branches of the woodlands, as well as that of alien creatures filled the night. This surface vegetation was akin to the mushroom groves of some of the cities of the world bellow – distant cousins perhaps.

Their own world was one of silence – far different from the chattering life of this winter forest. In their world, nearly every living thing could, and most certainly would, try to harm anything invading its lair. It made the sounds all the more ominous.

Their footfalls were unheard. They communicated only by use of hand signs. All of them were garbed in whites and greys that allowed them to blend into the terrain they moved across. What wandering ogres and trolls came across them they could not simply slide past, were cut down swiftly in a merciless dance of the blades of the warriors. The group was careful not to allow sounds of combat give their target any forewarning. The element of surprise was something to be carefully cared for.

Adventurers had dared to enter their homeland, and attack their kin. It was time to warn the residents of this world of what such insolence would cost. A demonstration that such hostilities against their betters would not be ignored, but receive harsh reprisal. A reminder of what it meant to stir the world bellow. Not that she required such an excuse. Spreading the fear of the children of the Great Mother across the surface realm had always satisfied her as sufficient cause before. The Underdark was a crucible of her children – a crucible that over generations burned away what weakness still festered in her race. It was time the surface dwellers learned to be afraid once more.

It was not long before the woodlands parted and made way to the coast. They could see the village before them. Two hours earlier, Endir’s Point had been bustling with the excitement of the Dijinn’s visit. A place lively with banter, haggling and joking. Several dozen adventurers had visited the northern village to barter for the exotic wares provided by this popular merchant. Yet night was at its deepest now. The horde of adventurers had departed with their gold pouches considerably lighter, and their bags filled with new exciting magical wares. The residents of the village were now curled up in the warmth of their beds, unaware of what was about to befall them.

Frozenfar was a land filled with savage tribesmen, foul trolls and ogres, vicious wyverns and many other creatures. Yet besides their low walls, and the less than a handful of guards trying to warm themselves by the burning braziers near the gates – the village had no discernable defenses. At the western gate, only a single guardsman kept watch this night. A broad man, bearded like a duergar youth. He was rubbing his hands together, trying to breathe some warmth back into his hands, unaware that death was surrounding him. Quietly her force moved into position.

A command in the hand language of her kin, and the hemp ropes were tossed across the wall. Taking aim with her finely crafted handcrossbow, she watched as the guard made his round. As he reached the wall, he suddenly stopped, staring at the ropes. As it dawned on him of what this meant, she released the crossbow bolt with a soft twang. The bolt hit its mark, dropping the guard into the snowbank by the house behind him.

Even as the blood was pouring from the wound at his throat, filling his lungs with blood – she assumed he could feel the poison of the bolt spread through his bloodstream – paralyzing him. He was helpless to watch as several silhouettes in white armor dropped across the wall, moving quietly to open the gate. Their camouflage had made them barely discernable against the snowy terrain of Frozenfar. Their armor shaped perfectly to the contours of their slender bodies, bending with their movements without a rustle. More slid in, taking cover behind the houses on either side of the street as they moved into the village.

The priestess directed half of the force to circle around the northern side with a gesture of her hand, before she moved with three others along the southern side in the cover of the buildings. A kobold stumbled upon the raiding party. Likely one of the adventurers who had gathered two hours before. He met a quick and brutal death, as he was cut down by the drow raiders. Moving forward, she knocked another poisoned bolt in her handcrossbow. The streets and docks were empty. Directing those among her, she took aim at the two guards by the northern gate warming their hands by the brazier. She watched one of the drow warriors slowly move up to take down the second guard when the quiet was shattered. She exhaled, steadying the crossbow as she aimed.

She hissed a vile curse under her breath as the element of surprise was stolen from them. The guards spun around at the noise of combat ensuing down the street. Another twang, and her bolt was released into the guard’s face. Before the second could draw his blade, the drow warrior who had suck up behind them was upon him. With savage blows of his cruel weapon, he cut down the defenseless guard – carving him into a bloody pile in mere seconds. Her lips twisted into a cruel smile, as the exhilarating lust for violence swept her body.

But they needed to act swiftly. They needed the hostages. Their goal was not to butcher the settlement, but to seize control with minimal casualties, brand their leaders and take some prisoners as a warning. While a part of the raiding party broke off to deal with the adventurers at the northern gate, the rest were going into the homes. The elder of the village was a priority target, yet instead of protecting his people as expected – he had locked himself in his temple in fear, and thrown up enchantments to keep them out. The sounds of battle still rang throughout the village, as the door of the Chapel of the false deity was finally broken down by the savage warrior’s violent blows, and the wall of wind employed by the elder within dispelled.

They rushed in to take their priced hostage – yet it seemed the Elder had fled to leave his people to their fate. Perhaps through a portal, or a secret passage. It was genuinely surprising. Usually the surfacers concept of honor would encourage them to martyr themselves for the weaker of their community. Spells cast and the temple within was defiled by the arcane and divine powers called upon by the drow raiders. Yet as the Priestess stepped outside, another curse slipped past her lips. The plan was falling apart – and in the north the sound of drow raiders battling back the adventurers still rung through the village. With the growing resistance of the township and the adventurers pouring through the portal lamp, their own tactics grew more brutal.

Her fellow priestess came from the house on the other side of the street. She had carved the family within into bloody ribbons for expediency, taking their three wailing children as hostages. She sighed in relief at the sight. The children should provide appropriate leverage. Taking a hold of them, she marched towards the northern gate where the fighting had been thickest. Two of her most capable warriors had been felled, but the rest of the raiding party gathered up around her.

“Adventurers! We have hostages, including children! Come through the gates with your weapons lowered!” Her heavily accented voice carried through the village as she spoke in the common tongue. Three children of the village were held before her. To reaffirm her threat, she pressed her blade against the throat of the small girl.

Instead of the adventurers complying, they surprised her just as the fleeing elder had. The gate flew open, and they charged at the raiding party. A male elistreean drow warrior, a human knight in scarlet and another kobold began to cut at her raiding party. Others soon joined them. The very air around them was crackling with the multitude of magic wards they shrouded themselves in. It seemed that the surface dwellers were not as weak of heart when it came to their children as she had expected. Just like their Elder, they seemed to care little to defend the weak. Her blade was drawn across the girl’s throat in one brutal motion – before she threw the lifeless body between her and one of the adventurers to keep him at arm’s length. She was with child herself, and had not intended to be so close to combat. Subjecting herself to the combat skills of the adventurers was not a risk she cared to take.

As her raiding party was broken apart – composed primarily of her young students trying to boldly hold out against the onslaught of the surface dwellers – she picked up the two other children and retreated herself. She had little quarrel of leaving the rest of her kin to deal with them. She noticed the fearn and scout of their raiding party had the same idea. They too left their fellows behind with little reservation. Neither of them were not among her students, and they had clearly lived long enough to be listen to their self-preservation instincts.

It was not truly unfortunate. Both were talented and had their uses, and throwing away their lifes was of little benefit to her. It also provided her with capable scapegoats should she need to explain the outcome of the raid to her superiors. She waited a little longer, but the sounds of battle were slowly dying town within the village and replaced by the calls, shouts and wailing of the surfacers. It was time to depart with those they had claimed as prisoners. Either to be sacrificed to appease the Queen of Spiders for clear victory having gone unclaimed, or to trade for their own in an exchange.

In the week following the successful eradication of the Aboleth Boneglaive as well as the White Skum and a large number of its hoard, morale in Nec'perya is high. Those that fought hard and perished to secure the survival of the city are remembered for dying in the service of Lolth. Not one casualty among the Drow has been seen by any as having been cowardly or mistaken, especially with the two Noble Born that passed's corpses being rumored to have given off signs of divine favor.

As a result, the Drow of the Nec'perya raise them up as heroes against the greater threat posed by the Aboleths. Their deaths are held upon the highest regard in service of Lolth and their subsequent deaths have struck a nerve in the uniquely battle-tested populace. As a sign of respect and solidarity with the Noble Born, red and black garments with purple trim are worn by all Low Born soldiers in the Vanguard when not on duty. Furthermore, merchants in the Bazaar have taken to highlighting the lower segments of their hair with red, black, and purple dyes as well.

I look around amazed, half expecting to be struck dead at any moment. Naltyrr guides me around and finally to the Scum. Teaching me to sew the scum flesh. A svirfneblin in Nec'peria hunting scum. Not as a slave but as a free gnome. We discuss the finer points of golems the mechanical parts. I never considered the flesh. The scum flesh of the rotting fish men. I can hardly bare the smell of it but I persevere. Harvesting the flesh of the scum under water off the shores of Nec'peria. The drow ignore me as if a rock or lamp post.

No one points no one questions. It's a warmer welcome than I got in Cordor.

Harvest the flesh. Sew the flesh. Yes master Naltyrr. Your secret is safe. The gaes guarantees my compliance and my resolve is sacred. I have given my word.

Naltyrr has been absent for days. Is this a test? Either way I continue my studies. Today I visit Cordor to finish a tome on Cordor construction and study armor and weapon crafting. I manage to slip in and out without notice. Perhaps due to my stature or possibly due to my illusion skill.

The experiments continue and I successfully disect another golem head. My new insights into weapon and armor crafting give me new insights. The experiments continue but are thus fruitless. I need more scum to continue the experiments. I am running out of pages for my notes. Must acquire more.

Sell Cordor first edition. Acquire pages and ingots. Experiments continue. Take more notes and sell second edition of alloys.

I lack access to study the mechanical subjects in Nec'peria. Will visit The Clockworks in wharf town to study the golems there. Will study their movements and mechanisms. I may experiment on them if the opportunity presents itself.

Note:
They are small. It is possible I may be able to acquire one of the clock work helpers for study without notice.

I've managed to find my way back to Nec'peria and harvest more scum. I'm still surprised that the ferry would take a Svirfneblin. Naltyrr definitely carries some weight around here. The guards let me pass and acknowledge me as if they recognize me.

This scum flesh really stinks. It gets itself into my robes and no amount of washing can get it out. They look like man fish but their flesh is flaky like a fish and is very flaky and delicate. The stitching is tedious and time consuming. I've pulled studied and sketched the lift golems in full detail and painstakingly dissected them in place without disturbing their function.

My work is the same. I try time and time again. Mirroring every stitch yet my flesh construct does not come to life. I am missing something.

I head over to the great forge in an attempt to find Naltyrr. The doors are locked, perhaps he is inside. I fall asleep against the door waiting and no one passes. I only leave to grab a bite and relieve myself.

For the sake of the gods this smell. This fish smell is driving me mad. It doesn't come out of my robes. I must return to L'Obsul for new robes. I need to try to make my way to the surface anyway. Perhaps the fishermen in Cordor or Wharftown know how to get this smell out.

Note:
Don't drow eat fish? A city surrounded by water yet not one fisherman or fishing boat. Come to think of it I haven't even seen a fishing stool since I left L'Obsul.

// Nec'perya's water is polluted by the vast quantity of skum that exists, in such that it makes aquatic life uninhabitable. It would be pretty apparent from the onset by looking/testing the water. Also, if he's been inside Qu'ellar Ussen d'Vhid (penninsula house), he might notice a full size aquarium!

There is the ever so small possibility that the svirfneblin may feel a set of eyes watching him while he goes about his various tasks. In the dim light, perhaps alongside the shadow of a building, a glimpse of a tall and possibly feminine figure could be seen. Most of the time the figure would be armored and helmed, though at times Reriam might catch a glimpse of crimson eyes staring from the darkness.

Deep within the darkness of the caves beneath the Wastelands Above, a figure glides through the pathways of a certain island; typically accompanied by a spider. The small, slowly thriving city is unveiled to her eyes, a sight she witnessed daily. The armored figured strolled silently through the avenues, moving between people at her leisure. She was also not a foreign sight for them, the grand head priestess who not only personally helped save them from the fall of Edonil but also was ever seen in the city itself taking a hand in matters here and there. Not satisfied to sit in the Temple, Zrae'a'stra'fryn enjoyed getting her hands dirty -so to speak- doing Her Will.

But it was also a silent message that she presented in her mere wanderings about the city: The eyes of the Queen are always watching.

Certain Drow male, noble by his walk, can be seen wandering around Nec'perya and L'Obsul. He seems to be buying a lot of poisons, sporres and mushrooms of various kinds. For what reason it is unknown, but for sure he is preparing something.
He usually do not speak to anyone, keeping his masked head lowered and only occasionally observer can catch gaze of his crimson red eyes.

[Just at the edge of the dock in L'Obsul, looking on over the barred shores to see the city of Nec'phyra adistant; the familiar green kin -- apparently newly enthralled with the city, for one reason or the next, busied herself getting a careful eye over its coast. The silence of it, the lack of bustle and the absence of warfare news she so often checked the L'Obsul noticeboards for was brought in question form to anyone that'd listen; and likewise, she'd ask absolutely 'everyone' who'd take a coin or two to tell her a bit about the city. Over the course of a cycle, the cities of Nec'perya and L'Obsul are put on high alert. The forces of the Lolthite city were reportedly accosted and felled by a group of 'Draconic rothes', which has prompted an emergency lock-down of all non-combatatants inside of their center square apartments as well as that of the infamous temple grounds.

The streets remain empty, derilect, and spattered of the forces of battle. The leading matrons do not retreat as of yet for comment. Sentries lent of L'Obsul sweep the perimeter as a preternatural silence cloaks the city of the Spider Queen. Several individuals, identified slolely by appearance as names are yet unknown, are branded as treacherous 'colnbluth' who will be punished on sight and banned from Nec'perya. L'Obsul independently demands retribution in the form of a tithe, lest the individuals remain banned indefinitely from their city as well.

Hearing about the disturbance, the Ul'faeruk would make his appearance to investigate what has happened. He would inspect the golems, especially the adamantine, to check their condition and assess the level of damage.

Through the visor of her darkly colored helm Zrae'a'stra'fryn, the standing Ul'ath'tallar of Nec'erpya, surveyed the isle with eyes like slits. Only just arrived back into these parts of the Underdark a mere cycle after the attack upon the small city, she was understandably surprised by the desolation she witnessed. Slowly the helm turned, scanning the immediate area as her eyes moved outward, taking in the greater area around her. Despite her surprise -and the anger rising beneath- she showed no outward sign of what she was thinking as her hands carefully removed her helm so that her long hair spilled down her back. A hiss of breath escaped her, a prayer accompanying it, and the enchantment of True Seeing was cast upon herself. Zrae's face was impassive, a mask of neutrality.

Without hurry her armored legs carried her through the city, making her way first to the center of it: The Temple of The Dread Valsharess. Crimson eyes scoured everywhere as she walked and upon reaching her first destination she stopped. Avoiding the door at first she made her way around it, slowly and carefully investigating the exterior of the Temple. Though some signs of conflict were found she was satisfied enough to find the Temple itself was relatively unharmed. It was then that she approached the door only to find it locked.

A clenched fist pounded once, firmly, upon the stone portal.
Who dares bar the Temple of our most feared Queen of Spiders? she hissed loud enough to be heard by the one that answered. You will open this door this very instant, or you will know Her most wrathful ire through me. Do you not recognize the Ul'ath'tallar of this very Temple!

Oh yes, she was growing all the more furious the longer she had been back. But she mentally stamped upon her fury once the door opened, coming through with all the haughtiness of a priestess. A hand shot up, the movement quick, silencing any attempt to speak to her. And then she moved about the Temple interior, ignoring all else as she inspected it with her deceptive cool demeanor. It was a slow process but once complete the Ul'ath'tallar approached the denizens of the Temple once more.

Not. One. Word. Zrae softly said, her tone cool and soft yet easily heard; the very tone they knew all too well was that which she used when she was most displeased. Those awful, crimson eyes raked over them one by one. First the priestess in order of seniority, then the present matrons, and finally the warriors. Slowly the drowess walked back along the grouping until she reached the middle of their formation then taking herself a few strides away from them. Turning, she regarded them for several long seconds, ensuring they were all focused upon her. When she spoke again it was in that same tone laden with false cordiality. Who wishes to deliver the news as to what transpired recently?

After the report was given she kept silent again. Watching. Waiting. A group of draconic individuals that hailed from L'Obsul? Interesting. Ones who fought their way from the docks all the way to the Temple before giving up? Intriguing. And then, yes, the priestesses and matrons barred themselves in the Temple with the remaining guards. Disturbing. The tale, while distasteful, was nonetheless true for no one would deliver such grave word unless they feared the fate of lying worse than truth. Or, at least, it was mostly true. Perhaps...

Allow me to ensure I have this information correct. A grouping bearing draconic heritage disembarked upon this isle. They attacked, carving into the guards, pushing deeper. Somehow the best of our forces could not stop an incursion of lessers, spreading their taint through this city? And you, each and every one of you, allowed this to happen. There is no excuse as to why you failed in the eyes of our most glorious Dread Valsharess. And then, then, you locked yourselves up in Her Temple like a group of frightened Wastelanders. As she spoke, Zrae's voice remained in that calm, disturbing tone of cool detachment. Those pitiless eyes swept over them slowly, watching, waiting. Every movement, every reaction was taken in by the Ul'ath'tallar. And then she let the silence fall for a brief pair of moments.

Each and every one of you is a failure. the words, devoid of venom, were all the more cruel in that neutral tone. Though, it did not last much longer, escalating into a wrathful voice as she continued. You have failed to protect that which She owns! You are what is left. You allowed those filth to come to the very doorstep of the Spider Queen's Temple! You locked yourselves in like children afraid of the whip! I should by all rights eject each and every one of you from this isle, cursed to live your days in failure!

As she finished her voice reached a crescendo, the priestess worked into a fury the likes of which none had seen since the days of Edonil's end. But, as the final word echoed against the Temple's walls her tone lowered again. She did not look feverish like a woman gripped by rage, her eyes merely blazed with anger as she berated them. But. Zrae let the word linger for a moment, You. Each and every one of you will have your chance for redemption in Her eyes. For it is not my wrath you should fear, but Hers. It is by Her Will that I stand here, the beacon of Her Power in this isle, and by Her Word I will uphold her every tenant be it by my voice, my whip, or my blade. I am Her Sword and Her Whip. as she spoke those words those crimson orbs once more raked over them as if to dig into their very souls, It seems that without my presence nothing can get done. That shall change, and quickly. You each will have your part in redeeming this failure. And I know that you will perform admirably. For if you do not, I will not hesitate to sacrifice every single person in this Temple that fails Her.

With those words left lingering in their ears she turned, cloak billowing behind her tall, armored form on her way to the door. As she crossed the distance she spoke again, The Temple will not be locked again against my orders. You are all to return to your duties immediately. This is your first Test. Lolth tlu malla! Zrae then opened the stone doorway and exited, leaving no room for comment on her heels. Back into the cool air she inhaled sharply, nostrils flaring ever so slightly as she faced the public altar. Stepping towards it the priestess removed her gauntlets before grasping her sword's hilt and scabbard. As the sword was pulled out a mere few inches the left hand wrapped around the scabbard and blade. Then, a swift and precise tug with her right hand caused the ever sharp longsword to slice her palm. Zrae sheathed it properly and raised her hand over the altar's cold stone, squeezing it so that a few drops of blood fell upon it.

Most feared and loved goddess over all, I give you my blood as I always have. Though failure has crept into Your Domain in my absence, it is my solemn vow that those failures shall be corrected. By action or by blood. The hand opened, some more blood dripping from it before she planted the hand on the altar's tap while she knelt. I am Your Sword and Your Whip, this I have never forgotten. Nec'perya will rise once more if I must beat the life out of it. Where others have, I will not fail You, oh glorious Dread Valsharess. The mistakes of Ultrinnan and Edonil shall not be repeated here, and though those priestess that forged this city with me have fallen aside I remain. As I always shall. Your Will is my purpose, Your Wrath is my power, my service to You is my life! the last phrase was hissed, eyes blazing with intensity again, O glorious Dread Valsharess, hear the call of Your faithful servant. Turn thy gaze back to this city and see that the faithful still remain. Lolth Tlu Malla! Zrae half-shouted the final portion of her prayer and stood, inhaling as she came to her full height and swelled with pride. Blood from her hand smeared across the altar as her hand slid off, akin to the blood sacrifice every citizen had made on that very altar so many months before.

As the Ul'ath'tallar strode off on her next business she murmured a soft prayer, casting a spell to seal up the cut on her hand. It would not do to spill blood upon Loth's Children, the spiders, after all. For that was her next destination in the city, to ensure that the spiders had come to no harm. It was a fruitful journey, for she found that all were accounted for, and even that the spidersilk storage and weaving building were unharmed as well. Once satisfied with their well-being she moved onward to investigate the city itself and just as importantly the stock of resources. Though dwindled, they would last... for now. Everything was caught into Zrae's mind, ensnared like in a cunning web. For now, she left the citizens to their homes. Though it irked her to see drow cower, she at least understood that the average commoner had little experience in battle. And she was secretly thankful they had the foresight to keep themselves safe, for what is a city without the common folk to busy it?
