So apparently crafting the appearance on epic armor costs gold if you fail the DC check, why is this a thing when it's free to craft any other armor. And if its intended there should at least be a warning so you dont loose all your gold because you didn't know this.
Anyway I find this odd and would like to see the cost removed.

Willing to look into the scripts based on the decision made.
Personally, am a no for gold cost removed part. We have Craft skills and jobs that can deal with this and to remove it would make both rather obsolete. If toon wants high DC item appearance changed, either take skills to do it self or find a professional and Rp.
All armor, when crafted, shows a craft armor DC in the combat log. It also tells you in the same spot what the fee will be if you fail the roll. Only robe and color changes are free. This crafting DC is based on the value of the item. Low level items are generally very inexpensive and have a low DC, so it's not something really noticed. But all armor (and weapons) have this craft DC and the fee associated stated up front. Go in to craft something and look at what it says when you pick a part to craft. You'll see what I mean.
THAT SAID...
When you fail the DC, you are only meant to be charged once. How much money did you lose, exactly?

I only hade gold enough to fail ones so no big deal. And we talked this over on discord and apparently I must have missed the rolls for all these years so
I still find it odd that the cost is so high

The cost is based on the raw item value that's calculated automatically based on the permanent properties on them. It's the same system the shops operate on (for instance items that sell for 10k might have a raw gold value of 30k or whatever)

I'm in the same boat as Magiros in this regard. I'd rather not make more of our skills effectively useless. Plenty of people know to take (and have taken) some points in the crafting skills because of this. And they should, in my opinion! The gold cost emulates the IC necessity of getting a crafter to do the work for you.
More ways to make gold useless and unspent is a no from me, too.

I mean asna wizard I never fail these rolls do not doesn't affect me but but would be nice to just be able to enjoy hoe your gear looks without having to find someone with the job system. Our job system isn't that fun and I literally only use it to reflect my rp.
