Where did I get my Portal wand from?

Recent events in Kaithan's story have left her deprived of her portal wand, and she needs to replace it. Where do they come from, IC? Did someone just fling one at her when she first got off the boat to Amia? ("Gah, my eye!")

While it was never (to my knowledge) really well explained how a character that does not start in Cordor gets their portal wand, afaik one can simply take a short trip to Cordor and buy/beg/ask for a new one with the clerks at the Commonwealth Center.

Portal wands. It is well known they are made by clerics of Mystra, and distributed to various places on the Amian isles and even Ruathym. They are available in any place with a Mystran cleric and a mythal forge. They are also in stock in Cordor, Winya Ravana, and any other starter location.

As for how? There is a certain amount of unfortunate ambiguity. Clerics of Mystra are charged with spreading these devices, and see it as part of their sacred duty (magic for the masses!). So adventuring sorts might get one for a donation to the clerics towards mythal forge operation. Or perhaps they purchase one on their arrival from a distributor.

Until we have actual quests where one acquires a portal rod (something I've wanted to see for a long time), you are free to say how your character acquired one. Clerics of Mystra would provide with the Lady of Magic's blessings, purchasing one from a distributor is legit, begging at the Commonwealth center as Silky suggested is also okay. If you are uncertain if your idea fits with established lore, by all means ask!

Well, since Cordor kicked the mystrans out and their supplier of wands has been named enemy of the state, I'm not sure how many of these devices they have left, much less willing to give out to adventurers...

But of course, there are ways to get anything with the right shady business practices.

On the flip side, upon entering Cordor broke and penniless, you notice an egotistical adventurer chatting with his back turned and no one watching it. With a swift have movement, you take his coin purse of 500gp. When you open it to inspect the contents, you find a Portal Wand, now that poor adventurer will never get to grind bosses!
