Hi. I have just been reading some spell descriptions and I have a question: Who is this 'Bigby' fellow and did he have 'small hand syndrome' or something? Oh and Isaac and his missile storms! Is it possible to play a mage named Isaac (or Bigby) and only use these spells? |

Rules wrote: No famous names from literature, movies, PC games or any other source. If a DM spots the name as being a copyright infringement, as in being exactly like a name such as "Gollum", "Pippi Longstocking", or "Darth Maul", it will be changed.

If these NPCs are celebrities in the setting (though I'm not sure why the Greyhawk wizards are so well-known in Realmspace), I would be surprised if there weren't thousands of people named after them (or whoever older figure they were named after). I'm sure there are several Elminsters and Eltargrims in the Amian NPC population alone, just like there are many Johns, Pauls and Marys among our players. That rule ought to refer only to out-of-setting names. But I'm not sure what storytelling purpose would be served by such a gimmick. A wizard who just felt like specializing in the spells because he was the creator's namesake? Possible but kind of weird. Wizardry generally requires so much dedication and forethought that such an impractical and whimsical decision seems psychologically implausible, wouldn't you say? |

Possible solution would be personalizing all of your spells, which I can imagine some magicians would do. |
