I'm assuming you want ESF: Conjuration for a reason there? Personally if I was building this I'd go Divination and Abjuration whilst forgetting about crafting at all. Abjuration gives you layered defense and Divination plus an investment into Spot Skill and Epic Skill Focus spot means you will be the doom of any Shadow Prancer or Stealther that crosses your path.
Twas likely going to go with either the Sirrush or a planar summon, so that's why. I considered Spot, however I wasn't sure if I could get it high enough given gearing could be a PITA and I can't fit in ESF: Spot.
Craft Wand was thrown in to ease up spell slots, specifically Haste for buffing and II/Stoneskin/Protection from Elements on summons. Not really sure where Brew Potion came from, to be honest.

Hey, me again. Sorry to be blowing up your thread so much. I've been trying out different builds so I can come up with something that I'll be able to focus on exclusively. I don't like the whole alt-thing (I get too distracted).
I'm trying to come up with a non-druid shifter build that grabs all but the dragon shapes. I'd love if someone could offer some advice on this. The problem I'm having is that I don't know what to fill the extra levels with. Should I take a discipline class (fighter) or a tumble class (rogue)? Discipline nets me 2 extra attack while tumble nets me 3 extra AC. I don't want to take any classes with a divine slant, so it narrows my choices quite a bit.
The build seems pretty simple otherwise. 19 shifter is the magic number, focus on wisdom and try to keep your saves high. Finish off epic levels with a skill dump class.
Pre-epic feats: Alertness, Knockdown, Improved Knockdown, Blindfight, Improved Critical: Unarmed, Luck of Heroes, Great Fortitude, (one more for human)
Epic feats are mostly +wis and the shifter forms, with maybe epic precision if I can squeeze it in.
So, thoughts? Do shifters struggle more with AC or AB? I'd love some advice.

Taking Craft Wand to extend a spell-book is silly because you need blank wands to facilitate the feat's use especially given Stone-skin is available in potion form and you will have plenty of slots via slot items and later higher intelligence for II and Haste buffing. Hell at 26 levels of wizard a single extended mass haste will last for over 5 minutes.

So the more I'm toying with melee builds, the more I'm finding that I know so little about them. In your opinions, what is the highest damage melee build?
I know of the Smiter Paladin that can do some neat burst damage. And I've read that a dual-wielding STR-based handaxe ranger is some pretty high, consistent damage as well. What else is out there? I assume I'd run into things like Scythe weapon masters, but I'm not really sure if I'm missing something.
Any two-handing WM has extremely high consistent damage output. STR-based Rangers and WM/Rogue/Fighters are most likely the other two candidates, though they cannot concentrate their damage onto one target as well as a WM.
I'm so happy that my twice-nerfed quarterstaff cleric/monk (AC bonus and then Divine Power) got something back with the monk attack progression.
Is there a viable Sorcerer Necromancer build out there? I am not going to make this character anytime soon, because I just don't have the time. But I really like the idea of dabbling in necromancy, and I just can't get inside the head of a Wizard Necromancer that isn't 1) evil insane, 2) tragically insane, or 3) cold and pragmatic beyond reason. There are a few other plausible explanations, like the desire to live forever (though you'd think sooner or later they realise it's not the best way to go about it) but I feel most of those have been done and/or aren't interesting to me to play.
A Sorcerer, though? That's an entirely different beast. I don't like the class and I don't really enjoy the idea of playing a specialized arcanist who can't develop any spells or solve arcane problems, but the concept of someone who is a necromancer against their will is just too alluring. A Sorcerer doesn't (necessarily) get to choose the spells he spontaneously learns, after all.
So, is a Sorcerer build focusing (almost) exclusively on Necromancy spells (with something like Evard's to complement) a viable build at all? Can it work with Pale Master? Is there a Sorc/PM build that gets a reasonable number of spells known and still lands Winter Wight? Or just go pure Sorc, or Sorc/BG or Sorc/DC? Not asking for a build here, just ideas on making the concept viable.

A Sorc is a Sorc builds really don't matter, just stack charisma, take silent spell and spam everything.
Is the necromancy spell selection viable to just go full blast-build, though, or is the idea dead in the crib?

And while I'm posting here, I need to remind myself of how Joon's supposed to be built.
I am 27 now: Ceric 23/Monk 4.
18 Str 14 Dex 10 Con 12 Int 20 Wis 8 Cha
Armor Skin ESF: Conjuration EMD Great Str I
Weapon Focus: Quarterstaff Imp Crit: Quarterstaff Blind-Fight SF: Conjuration GSF: Conjuration Extend Spell Maximize Spell Craft Wand (bleh, never bothered to maintain a business)
Ranks in Concentration, Discipline, Lore, Spellcraft and Tumble. I don't think I can max the first two since I need to catch up in Lore points, but they're almost in the 30s anyway.
But where was I going with this build? I have some old build suggestion I worked on with Opustus. It's very confusing, but one suggestion seems to be 25/4/1 Cleric/Monk/Ranger. I would take Great Str II, and EWF on my Ranger level. But with the change in Monk Wisdom AC, I guess it's no longer worthwhile to go Ranger for that bonus feat? Going 2 more monk gives me +3 AC.
So that means no EWF, and I use my last feat for Great Str II. 24/6 Cleric/Monk? Armor Skin, ESF: Conjuration (I regret taking it since I went for EMD instead of EDK and rarely use offensive spells), EMD, Great Str II. 20 Str and 20 Wis. Best way to build at this point?
I think I might rebuild at some point, swap Epic Conjuration for EWF and Epic Skill Focus: Lore, anyhow. Might as well drop Craft Wand while I'm at it.

Well if he never bothered to use craft wand and kept using that quarterstaff: Then obviously the craft wand feat is regressive and has to laud way fo the dominant feat of the character - epic weapon focus.
Regarding the Necrosorc: given that he'd spam four tiers of Negative Energy Burst and only need caster levels for buff durations, I guess 20/10 Sorc/PM isn't a bad idea? No epic spells, granted, but all the Sorc spells he could learn. And I don't think there's much use for EMD with the Winterwight, anyway?
Could do:
Extend Maximize Empower Silent/Still SF, GSF, ESF Necro Armor Skin Great Cha I,
and have 2 normal and 1 epic feat to spare; ESF in another spell school (something for crowd control; Mass Blind/Deaf or Thunderclap, maybe), or Toughness and some Saves feats.
Ends up with 26 Cha, 14 Con, 12 Int, 10 Str and Wis, and 8 Dex.

Looking for a Blackguard build for a LE toon that is a male drow. I am dead set on Drow or Half-Elf Drow, and would like to be able to be effective in pvp. Not sure how viable it is but going into epic blackguard levels also. The requirement for 5 hide seems to be throwing me off on initial levels too.
Starting gear: Chanmail, large shield, mace, healing kits, maybe food and drink on servers which make use of such.
Starting stats:
Hp: 10 Ac: 17 Bab: around 3 or 4 Spells: around 5 or 6 total Saving throws: decent
I use my ability increases as such: first one goes to strength to remove the -1 penalty. After that it is all wisdom but i make use of items which raise all of them. I use many defensive armors and items like rings and amulets with ac boosts so i always have impressive ac with and without imp expertise turned on. I always try to max my ac, saving throws, and abilities again by using the best equipable defensive items i can find/buy. I boost my dex as much as possible as it determines my bab and to hit chances. By the time i hit lv 20 my stats are:
Hp: 200 Ac: Around 50 with imp. expertise Bab: Around 25 with dex boosts Spells: Well over 30 Saving throws: Excellent
This build has always served me well and i think more clerics should use this style. If anyone wishes to use it please do so, it is not copyrighted.

In all fairness, that build's rather all over the place and is hardly going to be very effective when you reach the epic levels.
If you want more melee focused build, you'd have to throw in a couple (at least 4 pre-epic) fighter levels to get 4 attacks per round. Dexterity down to 8, strength up. Throw the Expertise and Weapon Finesse feats away, get Power Attack, Divine Shield and Divine Might in. More charisma (18 is a nice number). You need extend spell. Maximized spell is also recommended. I guess dexterity-based melee clerics are somewhat viable, but fullplate is just so nice to have. With fighter levels you also get to use the badass Warhammer without unnecessary feat investment.
If you want a build more focused on casting, then... well, you'd have to pretty much overhaul the whole build around.
Nothing wrong with RP builds, though, if you care less about min-maxing.
It's not a good build, in my opinion. You'll have far less spells per level than your typical fighter cleric as well as reduced BAB.
AC isn't everything when you are a walking spell and summon factory.

Lols. Clerics without extend, maximize, or even empower.

I focus mainly on defense... when you come from a server where death is permanent you tend to design your characters in such a manner. Those who dont tend to lose alot of characters. And the build is still quite effective against epic lv opponents as my recent battle with an epic lv proved. Statistically he should have kicked my ass, but because of my ac he could not land one hit on me despite being 10 lvs higher then me. If it weren't for outside interferance i likely would have won the battle or at least ended it at a stalemate. As for spells i got plenty of them and can throw down dozens of powerful attack spells like divine hammer and harm. Infact i can often cast these spells in the middle of mobs without fear because my ac and concentration are so high. I can litterally walk right into several hundred enemies and get off spell after spell without taking more then pherhaps 20 damage if that. Nothing is more fun then standing in the middle of an enemy mob casting multiple storms of vengeance and not losing a spell once due to damage or interuption. Believe me my build may not be superpowered but it is effective. Anyone who wants to test my build in battle is free to meet me in the arena... i could use some pvp.

Btw... i never claimed my build was great, merely that it is effective. And i may decide to add lv's of divine champion to improve my melee abilities and defenses further. I still have 10 more lvs to make improvements so if anyone has any ideas i am willing to entertain them. At the very least it will add to my knowledge so i can build a better one in the future.

If it works for you, stick with it. Nothing about that build screams "high AC" or "high Concentration", though. It's the same as any other non-focused cleric. Improved Expertise, sure, but you can't actually use it when you're casting (and that's when you get attacked). We've fixed the vanilla bug where you could keep up Expertise mode and cast spells. I do like Expertise on support characters whose purpose is to live to fling their stuff and let fighters clean up the rest.
What about my Sorc/PM? Is 20/10 the best way to go about it? guess I could do 14/16 for two epic spells at 30, but that leaves my spell selection very limited.

I can still use Imp. expertise to cast spells. I have been doing it for much of my time here. Yes once the spell gets off then the mode turns off but all i need do is turn it back on again and i have so much hp that even if i take a hit or two during that brief moment i can still survive nicely and wreak all manner of enjoyable destruction. And as for Kepaaalix... yes i am a banite, i also want to stay alive as long as possible. It also states in one of the d&d books that while banites dont use defensive magic defensive magic items are common and acceptable. Most of my defense comes from these items... i rarely if ever use defensive buffs. Any buffs i use are for making me stronger and more dangerous. So far it has worked nicely. And as i said... i have ten more lvs to go so i can take some fighter lvs if that would help as much as everyone says it will. Divine champion also sounds nice as well.

That won't help in the epics. After 20, every character gets 1 BAB and Saves every 2 levels, regardless of class, and no more attacks per round are gained. You need to mix 4 levels of full BAB progression (Fighter, Barbarian, Paladin, Ranger) with 16 in 3/4 (Cleric, Rogue, Druid, Monk) pre-epic to get the full 4 APR. More specifically, you get your 4th attack at 16 BAB, because each consecutive attack in a round rolls at -5 to the previous one. (Thus, at level 6 Fighter you get +6/+1, then +11/+6/+1, and finally +16/+11/+6/+1.)
I was pretty sure your Imp. Expertise gets cancelled and you don't get the AC bonus if you're attacked during spellcasting. There's a switch for it. It should be turned on on Amia.

I have not seen any such switch but i will look for it today when i get on. Also after casting the spell the expertise mode does collapse... i survive because i have so much hp i can turn it back on without taking critical damage during the few seconds it takes to activate. My current bab is somewhere around 25/15/5...

Also im not interested in power lv,ing and gaming. I dont make my characters to be ultimate destroyers with all their abilities carefully callibrated to dominate the entire server and everyone/thing on it. Everybody is screaming that it is not a optimized build... i dont want an optimized build. And as i said the build is still working well even though it is not optimized. I can still out fight, out cast, and survive just about any thing on the servers and when i do end up out matched i can easily escape without much trouble. I dont power-game... period. Bottom line, my build works just fine and if anyone wants to test it's efficiency please do meet me in the arena... a little pvp is always fun.

You don't need to excuse yourself. Whatever floats your boat. The main rules governing this thread is that you post a build and we scrutinize it and provide feedback upon it. If you do not like the feedback then don't post a build here
Im not trying to complain so my apologies if i come across in that manner. Believe me though... my previous builds were infinately worse then the one i shared with you. Infact my previous characters were so underpowered and weak that no one wanted me around as i was damn well useless. And i died... i died alot. This build may not be the best one out there but it is a major improvement compared to the earlier ones i used. I dont know how i was able to play such characters and get away with it... maybe the dms on the other servers took pity on me.

Iron, for your Necrosorc, I would recommend the 20 Sorc/10 PM version. It will have a larger spell selection, and I'm pretty sure it has more spells/day. It also means that the non-necro spells won't be totally gimped. If you have extend spell, you'll still be able to contribute effectively to a party-situation, whilst also focusing on your Negative Energy craziness.
Might consider a bard level, which would give you access to: Discipline, Tumble, UMD. Also, -%ASF chainmail and large shield, etc, which is just a crazy amount of defense for the character without a large investment.

19 Sorc/1 Bard/10 PM sounds legit, the -%ASF chainmail and shield combined with Epic Mage Armour makes you hella strong with PM AC and crit immunity.
God damn I love necros but I can never do them justice.

It's totally crazy. I think I did the same thing, but the other way around with 10 Wiz, 1 Bard, 19 PM. Ended up with crazy high AC, and I built it with a huge amount of CON just to be an asshole. Crit immunity, the right gearing, makes the thing incredibly defensive. Of course my wiz version has a very limited application in terms of helping others, PvM and PvP. But, the Sorc-heavy version of this should have far more range in what it is capable of. The downside would be not getting that EMA - So the AC would be coming from gearing and spells. This isn't so bad, though, since you can still gain a huge amount of AC just through the casting of the right spells.
Hitting 20 PM makes you become one hell of a tank, that extra +2 on top of the +4 you gain over 12th and 16th levels total to +6 AC if you decide to make a PM build.

I'll have to think about the Bard level when I get there. It would cost me one 9th level spell (settling for two) and, more importantly, two of them per day. Losing two Wails is a bit of a price to pay, I guess.

But at the gain of +6 AC (Tumble), +5 AC (Julas' shield is +2 because it's large, and +3 AC), +8(+5) AC (Chain shirt is 4 base, 4 possible from DEX bonus, potentially +5 AC from that.). Then there's Use Magic Device for extra tricks/items/abilities, Discipline dumping so you can't be knocked down repeatedly. In terms of benefit, it outweighs the lost spells by far.
However, it might not be acceptable for the character's story, etc. Which makes more sense.
True enough. Mind you, the chain shirt is actually just a +4 bonus, since the Dex and AC bonus apply to robes just as well, and I could cross-class Tumble for +3 if I had the points to spare. The other option is Ranger, which means cross-class Tumble and no UMD, but I'm not sold on the latter anyway. It's one free feat. All this is luckily something I don't have to plan ahead.
I have enough points to max 5 skills, if I go 14 Int (10 Str, 14 Con, 8 Wis and Dex, which seems fitting). Two of them should probably be Spellcraft and Concentration, right? Lore I don't want for this character, he's way too impatient for that. Not having access to epic spells, is Spellcraft worth it just for the saves bonus? Other potential skills include UMD, Tumble, Discipline, Spot, Listen, and Heal (always handy for a caster). I couldn't actually rank most of those until the lvl 30 skill dump, though. I might drop two Int for two Str to make carrying easier, or Dex for the AC.
I always have trouble estimating average saves vs spell DCs. If my base Charisma is 26 (a buffed modifier of +14), is it worthwhile to invest in another epic spell focus? It's either Enchantment for Dominate Monster, or Illusion for Mass Blind/Deaf. No other real benefits. Otherwise, I would go Toughness, Spell Penetration (or a saves feat?) in addition to the 4 metamagics and 2 necro foci pre-epic, and pick up one additional epic feat.
My spell list would look like this; is this viable, and am I missing something essential to the concept/usefulness?
9: Wail of the Banshee, Black Blade/Mords/Dominate Monster/Gate (dunno which, can get one) 8: Horrid Wilting, Mass Blind/Deaf, and probably Create Undead swapped for Premonition once PM feats make it obsolete 7: Control Undead, Shadow Shield, Finger of Death (I want Thunderclap so bad, these three are too obvious) 6: nothing thematically important here; Maximized NEBs anyway, but utility: Mass Haste, True Seeing, and Undeath to Death if his RP/training leads that way; otherwise Greater Stoneskin? 5: Mestil's Sheath, Animate Dead, Lesser Mind Blank(?), Energy Buffer(?) 4: Fear, Evard's, Imp Invis, Contagion, 3: NEB, three of: Clairaud/voy/GMW/Keen/Haste/Slow/Vamp Touch 2: Stone Bones, Eagle's Splendor, Darkness, Endurance, Ghoul's Touch (maybe swap smth for Flame Wep if there's a negative energy BoT, don't remember) 1: NER, PfA, Mage Armor, Ray of Enfeeblement, Grease

Out of ESF: Enchantment or Illusion, it's really what you'd use the spells for. Dominate Monster is great for dungeon running and possibly controlling some monsters during big events that do not have epic boss properties. Mass Blind/Deaf is great for both hunting and any PvP combat (and being a necrosorc, unless you hide to evil areas, there most likely will be some).
Toughness will add to your insane tankage while Spell Penetration will add that much needed DC to take on monsters with higher SR.
It's a tough split, if you intend on killing epic bosses, I'd say Enchantment is the way to go. If you want to be a support asset, throw Mass Blind/Deafs for some much needed help.

But you're saying it's basically better to get the SF/GSF/ESF than Toughness+Spell Penetration+Epic Feat? If I'm not that interested in skill points, I could drop Int to 12, start with 15 Con, and use that bonus epic feat for Great Con I for even more HP. So essentially, it's 60 HP, +1 Fort and +2 Spell Pen in exchange for +6 DC for Mass B/D or Dominate Monster and one maxed skill (Spellcraft or UMD, I guess). Or I could keep the Int and Con at 14 and use the epic feat for Epic Discipline or smth.

Thinking on it, Toughness+SP+Great Con I would work better if you really don't need the additional skillpoints. Remember one of the main perks of being a PM is your AC, the more health you stack on top of that the better. SP will work better anyway as it's better to have +2 in all schools than +6 in one (personally).

#1 Extend #2 Still spell (Armour doesn't impede casting) #3 Empower #4 Maximize #5 Spell focus 1 #6 Greater spell focus 1 #7 Spell focus 2 #8 Greater spell focus 2 (Humans get 8 feats pre-epic) #9 Wizard extra #10 Wizard extra #11 Wizard Extra
Wizard level 20, And the last Extra feat, is taken in epic since you take 1 level of X pre-epic. 19 Wizard / 1 Rogue pre-epic. Then at level 21, you take your final wizard level and earns another extra feat in epic.
In epic you should aim for #1 Epic mage armour #2 Greater ruin #3 Hellball #4 Mummy dust (IMPORTANT) #5 ??? #6 ??? #7 ??? (This feats is if you have 26+ Caster levels)
I was thinking of taking spell penetration and greater spell penetration for my next two feats. Nothing sucks more then monsters who resist every spell you throw at them.

They're pretty uncommon, and you'll mostly use buffed up summons and team mates anyway. Offensive spells are cool and all, but rarely actually useful.

Offensive spells not being useful isn't true at all. Well, not really true, buffing your summons and team mates is fine, but Crowd Control is pretty useful on Amia but vastly under utilized because of laziness combined with no risk gaming.
Having 20+ uses of Thunderclap/Sunburst with evocation focus for instance is a pretty big boon. Augment that with a couple of IGMS and Firebrand/Ball Lightnings/Ice Storms/Chain Lightnings/Delayed Blast Fireballs/Fireballs/Scintillating Spheres etc etc.

Oh yeah, I agree Mosh. By offensive, I meant damage. I was more trying to say that you're probably not going to end up in a situation where you have nothing but damage evocations prepared, run into spawns that all have high magic resist, and have no means of denting them. That's why, while Spell Penetration is nice if you have the feats to spare, they're a much lower priority than metamagic or spell focus feats. For those few PvM spawns with high enough SR to be an issue, you have other tools at your disposal.
I would follow Muspel/Svensk's list above as a rule of thumb, with some deviations you feel your RP requires. Arcane Defense is highly situational and mostly useless (you would cover more cases with Great Fort and you get high saves vs. spells from your Spellcraft anyway), but wizards get enough feats not to make it a disaster if it suits your theme.

Need some help guys. Building a battle cleric and so far I'm 10 Cleric/1 Fighter and I plan on doing 16 Cleric/4 Fighter by 20, but I'm unsure of my last 10 levels. I liked how 18 Cleric/4 Fighter/8 Divine Champion turned out, but is there anything better I could do with those last ten levels? I know obviously with that build I miss out on tumble. Basically I'm trying to make it the most powerful battle cleric I can be at this point, focusing all on spells and feats that can make me stronger in battle. I didn't start the build as a powerbuild, just more of one that was fun to RP, so from the start he's not built like one. If you think I should go completely different from 16 Cleric/4 Fighter let me know too.
