Some helpful questions for myself that would better let me figure out where to direct my characters concerning roleplay in dealing with the following: 1: What's the Amia lore relationship between elves and drow? I see a lot of them being friendly with one another or at least casual. So I was left wondering. 2: Are drow generally accepted as peaceful? I heard of some being in positions of influence. Overall they seem tolerated? 3: Monsters in general, is it the same difference? Kobolds, goblins, half-dragons, etc, are they seen as tolerated unless they do bad stuff?I haven't seen too many instances of people attacking one of the non-standard races (PvP) out of racial spite. 4: Does this happen often and what are the thoughts on when it does? ---- I'm used to an environment where monsters (drow included) are generally either hunted or treated with high suspicions. I know Amia does some things a certain way, so trying to figure out which way that is. So I've been left a bit unsure how to go about some interactions concerning my characters here. If anyone has any input or can give me some feedback on those questions, it would be great!

To 1 and 2, my answer is BETRAYERS!
But yes, they are accepted, in my experience. Same with goblins and such.

All monster races are treated mostly kindly once people find out they're not an evil alignment ICly (and sometimes OOCly). Some players choose to role play their character as being racist or biased against monstrous races, but it's up to the player, there's no real "normal" reaction or anything.

1. On Amia there is the Shrine of Eilistraee. That might lead to people being a little more open toward Drow in general. However, it is far more likely that the general distrust of what is one of the most hated and evil races on Faerun remains in most people's minds, whether they want to fit in with other Amian locals or not.
2. Absolutely not. Even 'good' Drow generally aren't peaceful Drow. It's just that those with good alignment tend to fight for good reasons. Or bad reasons.
3. Yes, that seems to happen on Amia. It usually wouldn't happen though.
4. Happens all the time. People can play their characters how they want, though, and react in which ever way they think is best. And I think this is probably really important to remember. Your character doesn't have to be the same as the average whatever it is from canon lore. Or, it can be exactly that. Totally up to you! The same is true for everyone else. What makes Amia a magical place to RP is that everyone gets to have this freedom and work on their own characters in this way.

In addition to continuing presence of the Shrine of Eilistraee, there have been notable good drow PCs who were involved in important, heroic events in Amia's history. A drow (Ravena?) was involved in the restoration of the elven town Winya Ravana from its millenial dimensional displacement, AFAIK. I could name three or four other famous drow (or drow-by-appearance) who were known for their goodness.
So there is no doubt much animosity between the Eilistraeen and elven NPC populations, but there is also good reason for them to have grown closer. It depends on the individual's outlook, but I'm inclined to think the Amian elves, moreso than humans, would be more accepting of drow than is typical on the mainland. Hatred for Eilistraeens, though no doubt typical and natural for elves, isn't theologically very orthodox (unless you serve Shevarash I guess) and I can't see the priests of Corellon who've lived side by side with these brothers-and-sisters-in-exile would encourage much hostility.
There are OOC reasons for friendly reactions towards good drow, of course, but we need not think it's completely inappropriate; Amia is exceptional on the global scale in that it has a well-known shrine close to other settlements, and therefore it both attracts Eilistraeens from elsewhere and spreads awareness of this religious group. Drow are mostly hated, after all, because people might not even know Eilistraee exists. Amians don't have that excuse.
NPC reactions toward monster races (including drow) have definitely grown stricter over the years, though. Racial bans and restrictions have been introduced in settlements, etc. But the PCs you see milling about, chatting with folks, are usually exceptional individuals (which goes with being a PC) who have proven themselves; received permission to enter, made friends, demonstrated their good intentions. Racial tensions have recently increased in Cordor even beyond that, targeting even civilized demihumans. So it's not as if PC reactions are representative of the entire population.

This would be great if it were actually true.

Drow are typically accepted here because of the Eilistraeen influence. Races like goblins and kobolds being so commonly accepted is due to people playing these monster races as either a civilised intellectual to a cute critter. Personally, I say you can take what race you like and make any character you like, Kurchin for example, Kobras toon, I find awesome, again with his Warftown kobold, which coincidently, is pretty damn creepy, Sayl. But both characters are socially accepted, but at the same time, both awesome. I have seen a lot of evil/tribal kobolds/goblins/drow, but their influence isn't so much because there's just so many do-gooder toons about it's limited by RP and not always fun to play the oppressed. However, when it is done, it's epic. IC tension between PCs, in my honest opinion is what I look forward to. I enjoy the hell out of PvP, some don't, so I can't and don't force it, even get criticized just for being ready for it on my tiefling. I would like to see a heavier influence from a monster faction sprout up soon, hey, I might even be persuaded to make a toon to join the fun.

Regarding elves and drow - things were very different when the Underdark was more active, but for a long time, more often than not, the Eilistraeeans on the surface were the most visible drow presence. Generally racial enmity varies - racial tolerance is considered a "good" trait, as is giving the benefit of the doubt and encouraging righteous behaviour. And well, most elves are good-aligned, and there's precedent in their religious dogma to actually be nice to drow (except Shevies).
As for other monstrous races, well for the most part it's become normalized. There are enough racially tolerant PCs that most monstrous PCs you meet have a friend, somewhere, so attacking the monster can lead to more trouble than it's worth. Also a lot of public order laws end up protecting monsters who aren't already causing trouble, and most of the PCs are smart enough to at least act civilised. Still, there are a decent number of racist PCs around. Most of my PCs are at least a little racist and one is quite fiercely so. But for me it can be challenging to handle fantastic racism in a way that's fun for the target. Not that it stops me but I imagine others have difficulty as well.
