Out of curiousity, why does changing the effect to a pulse grant the spell an arbitary +5 on the DC?

because it's supposed to fire every round, and the DC bonus is to thank you
for not causing the lag of a round-by-round AoE save or debuff?

Ic reasoning I would assume it is a much more intense blast that drains your ability scores then slowly over rounds.
