It doesn't have to be strictly limited to auction boards, also. One of those selectable invisible objects on one of the large trees in the Amia Forest that designates it favorite, frequently-posted-on tree could be fancy for all the same reasons mentioned above.

Hm.
I want an Actual board where you could Post Things IN-Game, that showed up on the Forum. And Vice Versa.
One in each town.
PC Notice Board In Game! You could either Auction, Post Propaganda, post flyers, post ...Whatever.

That's an Arelith feature. Prepare to be shot down for suggesting Amia copies their features.

It's actually a rather common feature I've seen on several NWN servers. And, you know, notice boards all around. You can hardly be credited with originality for letting people post notices on a notice board.
The reasons we haven't added them so far are quite different, and the decision to do or not do so in the future will be based on equally different reasons.

I only take issue to something when people front the idea on the basis of "it worked elsewhere" instead of fronting the idea based on the idea's own merits.

i like the idea of just a in game sign, perhaps one in each city, that could be used for the rp of it. would be nice to have when examined a link to the forum's "PC Notice Board" , maybe even simplify the URL to make it easy to remember like "www.amiawolrd.net/notice", and set that to redirect to http://www.amiaworld.net/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=58

How about a "message Board" instead of an "auction board" that way it's not just for buying stuff, but can be uses to display wanted pesters and such.

I've never seen this work on other servers, so just wondering how it actually functions. I imagine it'll be a lot harder to read notices (which are abundant daily) if they all end up on a single board. In my mind it's also hard to post replies and I actually love forums.

Yush. It's probably a waste of time. Nice new item that will save the world, and after a week nobody looks at it again. See: Party Ball.

With the removal of the classes/levels at the starting loggin screen, i actually thought the party ball would end up with more use.

I love the party ball too, but for some reason only people on A use it. Must require a critical mass to jumpstart or something.

That's just because there are always more people on A, you usually start on A, especially if you're new and this unspoken tradition is passed on from party ball user to party ball user that the meeting and deciding of location should take place on A. And then you always know nobody is going to use it on B so you don't use it either and the cycle goes on.
I have seen people use it on B too, though.

How dare you! *launches rotten tomato* No one insults the Party Ball!
Seriously, I sometimes see 8-10 names on the list and you're complaining? Now "B" is another story, I check it and put my name on it but damn if I ever get a hit. Of course that's when there are like 10-15 people online so how many might be in range anyway? That's more a "B" issue than a Party Ball issue IMO.

The party ball rocks. Don't ever say something bad about it!
Anyway... I hope somebody agrees with me when i say, It would be FUN To try a In-Game message board.
I think it would add atmosphere. IF you need to write a long post, Do it on the forums. Or Forums + Ingame. Or Vice -Versa.
Could even add some use to the job system? Like...Only towncriers can add notices on the board, Or ...You must use Scribe paper? or ...something.

In game message boards are soooooooooo annoying... please no...
Those things take forever to get through, especially if you're experiencing lag. Secondly, I believe only one person at a time can go through it. I've played many servers with this feature and my opinion of it is simple: hate it, hate it, hate it.

I could see this feature working half decently if there were independant boards in various towns/locations....and if Cordor, Wiltun, and Bendir did NOT have one - no matter how much sense it would make.
But yes, in lag, they are a bitch, and on a server like ours which is well populated, it'd fill up very fast. You think messages get bumped down quickly in teh forums? Try a teensy little message board. And they are worthless for replies.
So, despite loving the *concept*, I cannot imagine any implementation that would suit our needs. I do not support this idea.
What I DO support, is non-functional boards being placed in various towns/cities/locales, so that when we post "places on boards in xxx cities", there's actually a place we can be referring to, and a place we can go to "browse the messages and notices" in game.

LetumLux wrote: Is there any way a physical sign could be added to big cities to serve as the general auction board?
A physical representation that characters could walk up to and "check" on the auctions they are watching, or "put up" a new auction that players can get curious and look at the PC Notice board after they see? Sure, not everyone will post on the board, but I think having a physical, selectable sign (so it can be highlighted and is nice and obvious) will promote some fun RP encounters (bidding wars taking on a new, real time dimension comes to mind) and could be feasible for at least Cordor, outside the temple of Waukeen, or something.
It could also serve as a RP hub in other locations, a place to check to see if other characters are hanging around. Walking through Amia forest (or wherever), and pause by the auction board to see what's new and if anyone else is there. I think it would give a good sense of connectedness to an otherwise intangible sort of process, for those who want it, to have a physical, IG sign. People could be like, "oh, meet me at the auction board in Cordor/Kohlingen/etc" to do their transactions, and generally give more cohesion to it.
Quick addition: It occurred to me after I hit submit that I should clarify I wouldn't want the sign to actually -do- anything. Just sit there, be pretty and selectable, and attract characters for RP. No scripts or nothin'. Ron 'BrainSplitter' wrote: All that's wanted is a simple placeable with the name "Auction Board" written on it. Guess people would like to know exactly where these boards stand in any city, doesn't serve much purpose otherwise as no one can physically constantly visit all boards to see if anything new has been added. Our characters can do that when we're sleeping.

It would add the same thing that adding any other plc or tile would add: atmosphere and potential rp.
If that doesn't matter to you, perhaps we should stop trying to make nice looking areas, and just toss in a bunch of auto-generated grassy flat squares as areas, and say "Have at 'er".
