I couldn't actually find a topic for this, so I apologize if there is one.
I recently updated my drivers (I don't have a graphics card, my NWN runs off of onboard graphics pretty well). Problem is - now when I am logged in, the entire game flickers and flashes like it's having a problem rendering everything on the screen. The game still runs, but it's really obnoxious and it's not something it was doing before.
This is especially bad in areas like Wiltun - Hasmuth's torso keeps disappearing and it looks like the weapons rack behind him is popping through his chest below his floating head.
This seems to lessen when I am in Windowed Mode, however.
I'm on a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows Vista 32bit.
Outside of "Get a graphics card" or "roll back," any ideas? (I'll roll it back if I have to, I'm just checking.)

Try enabling/disabling environment mapping on creatures?
Also, try going to your nwn folder then run nwnconfig.exe and let it try to set the recommended settings for your comp.

I had this happen a while back when I got a second computer. The problem for me was that I had configured my settings to match my main comp and completely forgot that my second computer's graphics card wasn't as powerful. I rolled back my resolution a bit and disabled some flashy graphics and everything was normal.

Or you can just roll back the video driver to the one that works, and set Windows Update to simply download critical updates instead of installing them automatically.

http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-025753.htm
The graphics chip supports openGL 1.5 NWN uses 1.2.
Could try the above driver, or rolling back, though I assume it was updated for a reason.
Anyway. Agree@ Frey, I have window updates set to Automatic notify, and let me choose when to DL/install them.

Windows Update does not update video / audio / hardware drivers for a reason. Windows Update downloads new drivers when the "new" drivers are added to their HCL, and the drivers certified.
Often, the "new" drivers on Windows Update are already horribly outdated. Perfect example, for one, is nVidia drivers... the current "Windows Update" version is about 4 builds behind the current nvidia release driver.
You should -ALWAYS- go to the motherboard manufacturer (considering this is a laptop with integrated video) first. Check there for any new drivers and WHY they are new... what does the new driver do better, or what fixes does it contain that would MAKE me update the driver?
Failing that, the manufacturer of the video card (integrated or not) can sometimes work, or ATI / Nvidia if it's based on either chipset.
Regards,

google how to force disable v-sync on your card, then try that. It is usually the problem behind flickering screens.

Windows update usually only has the most up to date/recent WHQL passed driver.
So they won't have alpha/beta/non WHQL tested stuff up there.
For my board/system, they actually have the most up-to-date driver on windows update for w7 64-bit, on Windows-update, is also the most up to date one on the Nvidia site. 196.21

The laptop lists the default original driver as the reference from intel, means that any new reference should work, Last driver sony has is 2 years old.
http://www.intel.com/products/notebook/ ... erview.htm
For reference so you don't freak. Its the right driver.

Vertical synchronization (v-sync, v-synch, vbl-sync, vbl-synch) refers generally to the synchronization of frame changes with the vertical blanking interval.
Since CRTs were nearly the only common video display technology prior to the widespread adoption of LCDs, the frame buffers in computer graphics hardware are designed to match the CRT characteristic of drawing images from the top down a line at a time by replacing the data of the previous frame in the buffer with that of the next frame in a similar fashion.
If the frame buffer is updated with a new image while the image is being transmitted to the display, the frame buffer gives it the current mishmash of both frames, producing a page tearing artifact partway down the image.
Vertical synchronization eliminates this by timing frame buffer fills to coincide with the vertical blanking interval, thus ensuring that only whole frames are seen on-screen.
Note that this is in regards to tearing and screen frame artifaxing.

I'm not freaking, I'm simply supplying correct information, same as you.

No no. I mean, so Mika doesn't freak out.
Some people freak out about updating something with the wrong driver and it blowing their machine up.

Update: I, for the most part, fixed this problem. So thanks to everyone who tried to help. I ran it in 256 mode after turning a bunch of stuff off and updating my graphics driver.
