job system items.
I realise your supposed to basically double what hil'rash offers you for a base price on say an +3 sword, but this doesn't work so well using the job system price list, someone told me "I can get a steak for 5 crowns, why should I pay 50 for an egg?" and in reply ICly my answer was its fresh, but I can't help but notice the people who walk up and instantly close the box once they realise I don't have shiny weapons.
and, OOCly if you think i'm standing there for an hour selling eggs at 5 crowns you can do something terrible with a wooden spoon. =)
but yea this is really bugging me, doesn't seam to matter what job system item it is I try to sell, 2 out of 3 will open close the box quicker then you can type *nods* even the mithril mythaled +2 greatsword/longsword I had took three days real time to shift. idk why, I used the longsword myself and it pwns. I always get a funny look with the prices too, its called a profit margin.
rant over, please discuss. love to hear your stories and sucesses/failures aswell.
also, why milk weighs 10.5 i will never know, and I think a butter churn in cordor farm area would be nice considering its the most blatent place for one yet there is none. and i've yet to find one. took my cow to the forest looking for one, nothing.

It's best to sell these items to the food-trader merchant NPC.

There's nothing wrong with trading them into the NPC, since there is absolutely no market for these items otherwise. I doubt you'll ever have much luck selling them, but if that's your preference, it's your time.

You're selling ingredients! You'd cant do anything with an Egg.
You'll have much more luck trying to sell omlettes, porridge, and the like. Trust me, I know, I used to do it myself. I always got the feeling that people enjoyed the extra aliveness their characters had when they ate. Of course, some people just not interested, but hey ho. Their loss.
I'd go to the stalls in Wiltun (Which actually have teh appearance of Fruit Stalls), fill it with delicious food, park my Food Trader chest and a Cooking Pot placable next to it and fork out Omlettes at 200gp a go. Not unknown for queues to form!
There's very little market for job swords and that, though. Most people already have much better ones. But no-one has omlette!

well your right there isn't a huge market for it. that said tell me who wouldn't buy an +5 adamantine greatsword or something. what bugs me if people expect you to mythal all these things instead of take the base weapon which has weight reduction because its mithril for example, and do it themselves. I didn't take the weaponsmith job to go talk to an NPC nor did I choose farmer jobs to do that, I could RP being a farmer without selling stuff but some people do buy it, even got interest for more papyrus for page making =)
there are goblins selling beer as we speak if their still online, must be making a mint, i'd just prefer if people at least told you why they'd prefer to starve/eat something else rather than open/close gone. i'm not hil'rash theres a human being behind the character.
on a more positive note I know what I can and can't sell easily now, and milk is still useful to me once I become a cook so the dairy farmer job is not a wasted one =)
the thing that most bugged me so far has got to be the weaponsmithing, and the looks i get for the prices. yes it does cost that many thousand its mythaled to start with -and- its mithril, which costs 2k a bar on its own.
I guess its the snarky ICly comments that piss me off. if you ICly think adamantine is crap you have an int mod in the negative.
ya I know but I need actual levels to get the cook job and I can't solo with my rouge >_< soon you can have all the omlette you want =D although for some reason milk +eggs = scrambled eggs not omlette...typo imo.
also just wait til I start busting out +5 weapons > = D i'm thinking though from now on with glyph commision only cause I can't sit in market hall like that again and have all those snarky comments after wasting my mythals on other people for RP. (and obviously the main reason cash.)

Its not easy making a living out of the job items and in paticular the ones which produce stuff you can already get in npc stores.
My way of trying to keep some sort of sale going is making the weapons very unique because thats your major selling point. Players are not likely to be encaptured by "Magic Firesword +3" as they can get something very similar in the stores, on the other hand if it was "Fury of the Sword" with a interesting bio detailing how the weapon looks and any decorations. Suddenly the job item become much more interesting and even more so when you are able to customize both appearance and name to fit the buyer's need. Basically weapon/amour smiths need to focus on making their weapons stand out more than anything else as they powerwise rarely compares to the npc stores.
There is also an promising feature when you are able to transfer properties between weapons which would greatly boost the usefullness of the smith jobs. Sadly it is not yet working fully and may cause missing weapons which make people wary to use it with valuable items.
Another strenght is that all the new hak weapon appearances are only available through the job system and even though it isn't exactly easily available or managable, hopefully when the system gets a look at it will be streamlined so the smiths can deliver even more unique products which simply outclass loot/standard items with style and facinating descriptions. Thats where the strenghts of the job system play in as it gives the player better chances to create customized items than the bland generic store/loot items.

that is one great thing, the custom models, and the see through blade look I love my adamantine/lapis bastard sword to peices cause of the see throughness with the sonic visual, reminds me of the last gunblade in ff8. (I was told combine was bugged but I decided to try it out and it worked, can't complain =) if it failed that time would have only been my loss.) also again, changing the description and that costs mythals, and I think someone said scribes can't do swords. even if they could i'm out of job points if I want master weaponsmith, so I can't get scribe. disco ninja'd, I do like the sound of that =) would be sweet if milk didn't weigh as much as a metal ingot aswell but one step at a time.

as it stands the only way to make a IC living off the job system is Building materials. building gets crushed in a event city/town/faction base, thats job system stuff, want to build a faction base, build siege weapons,boats...ect building materials from job system Dev Disco wrote: I made a list as a bit of a reference for building projects...
1 tile exterior stone (one level) - 20 batches of granite (or sandstone/brick/wood, depending on model) - 20 batches of mortar - 20 batches of wooden planks (all of the same kind) - 20 poles of wood (all of the same kind again) - 2 batches of crystal or glass for every window - 2 batches of iron or bronze - For towers and multiple level tiles you multiply this figure by 1.5 for every extra floor.
1 tile interior - 20 batches of granite (or sandstone/brick/wood, depending on model) - 10 batches of marble (stone floor) or wooden planks (wooden floor) - 2 batches of iron or bronze - 1 piece of furniture (chairs, benches, carpets) for every 3 PLCs of the same kind.
This is the bare stuff. If you want golden door knockers I want to see a batch of gold, etc.
It's a rule of the thumb affair, but it gives a hint in the proper direction. thats alot of stuff to get and most people would rather go kill monsters for vender loot and kill bosses for epic loot then sit there with a 2min cool down on every job...(great for alt-tabing and playing flash games, and just click the thing every 2mins and go back to playing what ever) so be a Sawyer,Stonemason or Lumberjack(also pick up Building Materials Trader to hold the stuff)

"scribes can..."
any chance I can lose the gem cutter job then DM's ? -_- I have been misinformed. (with glyph.)
well, I can do the batches of iron and bronze somewhat, and I know where to find the merchants for building supplies, since I need ironwood for weapons and i'm not a lumberjack after all. maybe I could earn some dollar yet =)
I wouldn't say its the only way though, I made a sweet 50k with the two weapons I mentioned. went something like (base cost of materials + mythal cost + cost to mythal, + base item type cost)
so lessers being sellable for 15-20k add 2k for mythaling it myself, + mithril (2k) add the fact its a greatsword, gave me 30k =) not too pricy, not a waste of cash.
I think i'd struggle to RP someone with building skills, my current characters don't really fit the bill.
(that said I might take carpenter with null but lumberjack meh, I can get logs from the dude. or other PCs)

being the Booze selling goblins, i sell them like 14 Gp more than what i could to to merchant, and jsut 4 more if they get discount racial liking.
i actualy dont make a mint from it but, once in a while somone will buy a laod from it, and it increases awarness that "oh that goblin sold beer last week cheap too" " we are having a party? speedys her to see if shes got a stock we can buy from her"
well i at least like to think it does. But yes being a person who has sold not only eggs like yourself but full products people are much more likey to buy if they have uses, and seem to be full, its mainly beacuse people dont take cook and then got nothing to do with it until somone buys it off them, they take all the jobs needed for it.
and if people complain point them towards the okaapa otamas prices! its 300 a cake! no wonder eggs are much!
and im still waiting for someone to come along who i can set up a resturant chain with >.>

As to the question of "making a living"... I think your perspective might be a bit skewed (understandably so) by being an Amian adventurer. For adventurers, gold is basically free. In PnP, the cost to hire a smith, stonemason, carpenter, etc., is three silver coins per day. If you make 1,000 gp profit off of selling a sword, you've basically made enough to hire a smith to sit in the forge in your basement and have him churn out greatswords for you ever day for ten years. Now, including the cost of materials and upkeep, you might only be able to own that weaponsmith for five years... but I think you get the point.

that would be ace if I wasn't a ?E align character lol, long term business is not on the menu. (my disguised RP might have you confused there with the alignment thing but ya, is evil >=) )
talking about full items rather than ingredients, I am utterly shocked no one -still- has bought my iron whip, what more can I say, its a chain, it even looks like a chain, and it has disarm like whips do. nuff said, please explain why no one even asked for that one, its like 100 gold max, I might have even given it away. also bronze gets no bonus other than you can legitimatly use the copper looking color on it without feeling like a cheat...woo...
I'm gunna keep experimenting with the jobs and see what I can sell and what is useless to people, i'm glad I figured mages might be after papyrus for paper, and sometimes people post in the IClys looking for specific items in bulk.
think i'll wait to request the scribe thing, I don't want to spam up the request forum. now i've heard that I genuinly do need to lose gem cutter for scribe.
ninja'd, in pnp yes, on amia, the base metals cost 2k so you know what you can do with your silver. (the good, base metals are 2k. each, per ingot, which you can bodge and lose.)
unless obviously you have access to an adamantine deposit and are willing to give that info up ICly, and then you have to cart about 30 weight per ore.

Ignore Cory. Take what jobs are most appropriate for your character. I won't be wiping your job log just because you're changing jobs because some schmuck on the forums told you "The only way is building materials".

you, do have a good point tormak. I do think that "engraver" fits better than gem cutter though considering I am secondarily a goldsmith, master weaponsmith being my main. (when I get there.)
perhaps I should find a scribe that can show me how it works ingame at least.

Herbalist makes Healing Kit +1,3,6 and 10 also Potion of Lesser Restoration,Heal and Barkskin and I remember talking to a person who had the job and he said it takes 20x as long to make them then it would to go stab a monster in the face and buy it from a NPC.

You can have a bit of success with weaponsmithing and armorsmithing. The trick is to find low level characters that can actually use the weapons as their level is too low for the good stuff. A +2 sword or armor at a low price is a decent find for a level 6, but a level 30 has absolutely no use for it at all.

maybe it cause I remember people selling in dale and that cordor is -supposed- to be noob town shoping vile (ecl wise) its all well and good waiting for low levels but most people who literally just arrived or are not yet level 10 for example, go to the smithys, and anyone above that level generally goes to hil'rash to dump their loot cause he gives better prices than wakueen, and are rather more likely to laugh at your stock.
the great thing about the farmers market (thing) is theres not really a level restriction its whoever wants papyrus, flowers, omelette (soon) etc.
to be fair, there are more specialized merchants that visit cordor, I shant name names for the sake of keeping it ICly but you -can- still find higher level weapons and stuff in market hall occasionally. in either case weather your a level 2 or a level 30 merchant you shouldn't be -expected- to mythal things for your customers. which is exactly why I will be commission only for weapons with glyph =)
I nearly forgot combine because on B a DM told me its not done yet, but I charge for that too =P and rightly so, custom modeling your wonderforged -blank- is a stressful task, (and i'd like to know if its fixed so I don't need to call a DM when someone wants this done, "incase I break it >_>")
I noticed something aswell after standing about the smithys, making random stuff for literal just starters, more people want custom armour than weapons for some really strange reason.
