Do you know what would happen to our economy if people kept finding money just magically appearing under rocks, bushes and dead animals? It would collapse. It's somewhat similar to how money can just be printed in today's world. Or before fiat money, how we could just keep mining precious metals out of the earth. It was practically an endless supply for those times. Even with more efficient mining machines and technology, and decades of continued mining, we still haven't even depleted all the gold under our giant rock! It's all about control and management. That's correct, but we don't just keep printing off money and shoving it into the economy do we? No.

We kind of do. Just at a slow rate.

1. Having a set amount of gold on the server will cause problems because people have multiple characters...and each character will take away gold from the economy when they are not on.
2. The loot drop percentage based on party size screws over the people who are in those dead time zones.
3. Any drastic erasure of gold doesn't solve anything.
4. Additional gold sinks (like gambling) cannot be counted on to do much of anything if nobody sees the value in it.
5. The economy is no more broken than it was a month or a year ago (excluding the effects of the now abundant perfect mythals).
6. Any 'solution' to the 'problem' will probably do more harm than good. The 'problem' really isn't so bad.

Probably true Quote: 2. The loot drop percentage based on party size screws over the people who are in those dead time zones.
No time zone is THAT empty. Quote: 3. Any drastic erasure of gold doesn't solve anything. Why not? Inflation exactly is the problem, and removing weath and reducing income should fix that fine. Quote: 4. Additional gold sinks (like gambling) cannot be counted on to do much of anything if nobody sees the value in it. True. Choosing to get rid of your gold is a bad way to reduce everyones gold. Quote: 5. The economy is no more broken than it was a month or a year ago (excluding the effects of the now abundant perfect mythals). This is irrelevant. Old problems are still problems. Quote: 6. Any 'solution' to the 'problem' will probably do more harm than good. The 'problem' really isn't so bad. I seriously doubt the validity of this claim. What is it based on?

Let's put it this way, if the NPCs followed the trend of the PC economy and inflated their prices to keep up with the rapidly devaluing GP, there would be a lot of people saying 'Fix it!' and a lot less saying 'Leave it!'
As things stand, the NPCs are almost the only thing keeping the bottom end of the economy sane, and at the same time they're feeding the top end, however indirectly, by providing the basic services which allow someone to get from new adventurer to boss hunter. If all of a sudden your potions, healing kits and things were priced ten to twenty times more than they are now, or simply weren't available, you would be complaining.
The harm in allowing things to continue the way they are, to do nothing, is to continue to make it easy to accumulate pointless amounts of wealth that do nothing except inflate prices in the PC economy. Doing nothing is never going to be better than doing something that's been carefully planned and thought out.

I have a solution, and it involves what I saw from the black caravan (they back! WOO!!)
make your own damned shop, undercut everyone selling for millions, put them out of business. -that- is what I mean by deal with this ICly. also there are pleanty of non epics ready to trade semi good stuff that are flatly denied most of the time, accept their trades, and start in the thousands not the millions.
and soon enough -you- will be stinking rich and wish this thread didn't exist.
ed: you obviously forgot what my character glyph does (master weaponsmith) I have started. and epic stuffs, haven't got that far yet but I WILL.

Ok, Glyph.
Why don't you start? Because i won't be selling my hard-earned Epics and the Numerous Items i've accumulated over the years for 70% off.

This seems too appropriate to how adventurers react when their economy changes.

LOL...
I did realise one thing though just now, whats to stop the people I sell to reselling the epic stuff at a much higher cost -_- I hate economics so much...(there is no fix, real life is proof.)
