Hello Amia! Are you ready to ROCK!? errr...RP!

I am, but I had a question or two and a character concept I wanted to pass by a DM if possible first.

I shot off a PM to Nekhy to find out who was the person to talk to preferably, but it seems he/she is on hiatus this weekend or longer.

I didn't see anyone listed on the Staff list as, "Person who drew the short straw to answer annoying new people questions." So if someone would like to take up the torch in this case for a few PM's I'd appreciate it.

Thanks
Kev

You should be able to just post your questions here, if they haven't been handled already. The Amia playerbase seemed pretty tolerant of me when I was an ignorant n00b. :)

I can put one question up here at least. One of them was just a general thumbs up, thumbs down. or wtf are you thinking on the character concept in mind and I wasn't sure that was something I wanted to just put out in the open to start.

Mostly I'd like to know do I need to worry about having a serious build vs just a RP build to fit a character concept? I've seen the character creation thread and it seems potential power builds abound. Otherwise I usually tailor the classes/stats/skills/etc to the idea of the character and personality.

While the latter is ideal Kev, solo is pretty tricky already if you don't have buddies, at least IMO. You certainly won't want to be anything silly like 30 fighter.

Yea I realize there are disadvantages to certain builds if you went the full RP route. Right now I'm planning on something that should be somewhat combat worthy and shouldn't deviate far from the idea in mind.

Did I mention I was going to ask about being the love-child of the Simbul and Elminster?

Close, but not quite what I'm building. The wife may try a Ranger this time around though. We'll see as her and I are still discussing a bit what she wants to RP this time around.

Thanks, and Bryn was Brynsaar. Another NWN PW that my wife and I actually met on about 5-6 years ago at least.

I met my partner online too, though it's about ten years ago, welcome to Amia, I'm...returning to the game so chances are you will be able to play with me as all my characters will be of a low level, whether you wish to hunt or RP, I'm very open to both. =)

*waves* Hello to all our Brynsaar and/or Aerth peeps! <3

The hubby has twisted my arm (it was soooo hard) and convinced me to roll a character here on Amia. It has been too long since I've been able to RP, and lets be honest, WOW just doesn't cut it! So, we'll be making appearances when our brand new baby girl allows us (ie. when she is napping!).

It's good to see so many friendly faces I've been RPing with for years and I look forward to meeting many new ones! :D

Thayne was also post-split Arelith. *nodnod*

Personally I can never understand how or why people get Hung up on builds. Having a pre conceived idea of how your pc is going to develop seems to me a bit rigid. I just go with the flow. Some of the best rp I have had is from low level pcs that have been so for years.
I take feats etc that feel right. If I make a duff choice on levrlling, that's just life for you :)apologies for spelling sent from phone.

I'd say it is flavour and personal opinion first.

Yet also a build must fit the rp. Example:Don't expect to be a snobbish sun elf that harasses everyone without the power to fight back. You'll need a strong build for that.

RP builds can be supprisingly good. My druid who was supposed to be a rp build healer.. Well I found out on her epic lvls that she was a powerbuild.. She soloed anywhere...

Sometimes planned powerbuilds doesn't work as thought.. I for one prefer rp builds, however, I try to make them as powerbuild as I can withouth breaking what they should be. ((It's annoying to be the guy who should be good fighter yet gets owned by everyone, you need something to back it up!powerbuild. ))

Always try to think what fits that character.. example a healer with epic hellball.....

Plus if the player of the rp build is good.. He/she can easily own powerbuilds trough RP ;)

Anyways welcome.

I agree. I always want the build, alignment, attitude and look of my characters to most closely match what I am attempting to portray through RP. Though this is not always easy, I feel that it makes for a much more authentic and enjoyable RP experience. I love to see how things change and develop with my characters! All of my characters have begun with one idea and build and through RP developed into something completely different from what I'd at first envisioned. Half the fun is seeing where RP takes you and being flexible enough to run with it! :D

Likewise, and so far the few people I've run into have been excellent to RP with.

Yeah, if you ever feel like kicking ass and chewing bubble gum back-to-nature style just send me a PM when I'm playing Cairn Crown. We need more angry druids/rangers! But I didn't say that. (or more often than not getting stomped but it's the thought that counts ;) )
