If you ask for sums that people will 'really' pay, they are going to be ridiculously small by the standards of the Amian economy, so you look daft. Three epics who can rampage from the Manor Ruin node to the FGK inside half an hour and they're asking for a hundredth the cost of a single Heal potion? No.
If you ask for an ICly sensible amount of gold, which people will almost certainly refuse to do anything but emote handing over, but that raises the problem that you really should be rolling in cash after a day's extortion, and they should really be broke. But they aren't.
Thus, I suggest to the Horsemen that instead of asking for money, they demand people swear allegiance to Valorian while on their claimed territory.
For other roadblocking types: Order of the Stick fans will remember Hayley's economic treatise on why banditry fails in DnD.
Kjetta, regarding self-imposed death penalties: Good point. I fold.
Found Haley's treatise.

Good RP > Good action > Bad action > Bad RP.
Now, what defines good and bad RP is totally subjective, whereas good and bad action are a little more objective; the faster the better, and I shamelessly admit to being competitive enough that being on the winning side is rather important.
Anyway, as it matters to Amian interactions: being good at PvP gives you a lot more IC control over what bad RP you have to put up with.

When I read this, it reminded me of when I made my first ever sneak on Amia, I was fighting Gobo's and my health was at Badly wounded, or Near Death, some random Drow run up to me, no hostile ands killed me before I even had time to react.
When I went OOC to ask why they attacked, their reply was "//Because I'm about to sacrifice you". So I tried to explain about PvP rules and sacrificing, etc..
they just said something the lines of, "//The rule where you need to ask OOC'ly for PvP permission is out the window, now you are going to come along and get sacrificed whether you like it or not".
They didn't even want to hear that the rules had been changed to Valid RP before PvP'ing and tried to force me to go along with it, or they would just stand there utnil Goblins spawned again and let them kill me again. After that, can't really remember what happened, other than her trying the exact same, and it ended up about five people trying to explain the new rule to her properly.
Mind, this was months and months ago, said person no longer plays Amia.
Sorry... OT...

This is true. Being good at PVP definitely gives you more control over what RP you have to put up with. But therein is the idea that instead of trying to change the rules, why not just practice your PvP tactics or make a better rebuild? After all, Ucey, you help everyone with building in that 33 page topic about it.
Anubis, I also think that that is fine RP. Seeing a lone Surfacer and just killing it is what many drow should and would do. However, they should ask you OOCly if you're up for a sacrifice, because that's considerate and we shouldn't play on Amia to cause problems, but to have fun. So hopefully it won't happen again!
And just like has been repeated, the consequences are up to you to decide. Getting sacrificed doesn't force any more consequences on you than the goblins killing you. So you could just wake up in the Temple of Waukeen and feel all sore, like usual, and not even remember being sacrificed, because chances are you were probably knocked out or dead for most of it anyway.
Kjetta is right that if your goal is Real Life Suspense, you're not going to get it from deciding yourself that your own consequences to be harsher than others... but I just think in general, you shouldn't be trying to find Real Life Suspense from a video game. Because there's not really any Real Suspense in these, even if the PVP consequences deleveled you and took your gold away....... it's a game that in principle has no effects on you except what you allow it to or make it. (aka single player is ridiculously easy and you can cheat and such)

Instead, perhaps a temporary, undispellable penalty to abilities, to make you move slower. Maybe dizziness. Something that would only hit once (so you couldn't be PvP'd repeatedly for cumulative effect) and would go away with time. Maybe 20 minutes cooldown time, until you are able to rest again (also block resting immediately after being PvP'd).
That would give death a bit of zing, without making it truly hampering for the player's gaming experience, methinks.
I like this idea. Simply blocking rest for a further 15 minutes would be enough by it's self. After dying, your spells, special abilities, etc cannot be recuperated immediately.
It gives death a little more of a punch - But at the same time, it's nothing that will last too long or be too much of an inconveniance. This would also prevent people from suddenly 'bumping into you 1 minute later for revenge'.

I'd disagree.
Crime pays in millions if your not a criminal trying to rob people for gold, but rather engage in machinations that result in alliances, joint manuvers and large scale plots that most Amians don't even know are happening.
This isn't a jib at you, because I think your doing a absolutely awesome job with Vay'lek - but what I'm trying to say is that it depends on the type of crime, really.
Highway banditry, robberys, etc = small time crime.

The reason small time crime doesn't work is because Amia's economy doesn't reflect the real world by a long stretch.
It comes down to simply getting epic loot or farming for gold. That is just making friends who can farm those bosses and drop stupid amounts of gold or items on you. I've not had much luck with it as a sneaker so the real criminal RP is conning these people into giving you the goods.
I only do the highway/drug dealer/"small time" crime because I find it fun. Not because it is most profitable.
Crime doesn't pay. Having boss farming friends DOES pay. Better yet, just make an evil aligned boss farmer for yourself and you are set.

Yeah exactly, Vay will make maybe 4000 gold from a few hours banditing, and that's if he encounters players who are cool with giving over a pittance in game terms for the sake of my RP.
But really I do it because its a surefire way to get people involved in RP and give anyone a ticket to PvP me if they want to. And I get my ass handed to me just as much as I win, which is suprising seeing as I'm often in the lowbie frontier areas.
Vay also knows it's not a profitable venture, but its a good way to find sacrafices for his god, while staying 100% in line with server pvp rules, so stuff like the drow-killing-lone-surfacer-with-no-rp never ever ever happens. People have IC ways out (pay or escape somehow) or they can initiate pvp (90% of the time my victim is the one to actually begin pvp).
But right now Vay's off the beat since he got stomped and warded against resurection by an army of pallies xD was basically a server event seeing how many characters came out to get a kick in on him. Was great

I'm not going to help that kind of character/player, partly because I don't approve, and partly because I'll probably end up killing them to make them go away and let me get on with RPing with fun people. Why make life harder for myself?

I'll just tell them all to send their builds to me! Hey everyone! If you want a way to beat Ucey up, just tell me what cool build you want, and I'll ask it for you! It's all free for 30 days! (And then only three payments of 9.99.)

That is actually a really good pull, the fact you can just kill like 100 noob monster and make multiples of that aside.
I guess it really comes down to DnD being an adventure game. "Kill them take their stuff" is what the game is based on so you aren't looking to succeed if you fall off that path.
It isn't really an imbalance, it is more of a feature. Adventuring is high risk so it is high reward. Except perhaps the utter domination you unleash on lower level spawns but then it turns into a sheer time thing and again isn't balanced.
Even if some alternate way to make gold was introduced it would either be easily abuse-able or not worth it. I'd not really even like to see any alternatives. The strongest characters should probably be the ones that can slay dragons, angels, and mind flayers.
Lots of people think it is "unfair" but those that can slay the greatest of monsters are following lore and reason much closer than someone that can't demanding equal footing.

Not to go to far off topic here but... IMO Amia has surpassed NWN & DnD. Like the little sign on the sidebar says..."I don't play NWN I play Amia." Amia does have a Job System now & that being added has blasted open so many possiblities, has enhanced the NWN/DnD concept so much that to me Amia is it's own game. Not saying it isnt there, just that I haven't seen it. Maybe in time something will become apparent but as for right now the Job System is working excellently. As for not being worth it, I disagree. Now I know you weren't specifically mentioning the Job System however it is a alternate way to acquiring funds. I haven't had any problems with it not being worth it. It provides a way to earn cash w/o hunting & depending on your job & how good you are it you can do fairly well.
As for strongest characters...I totally agree.
And, yes I know I have said this before many times...I love the Job System. I want to have Disco's manbabies.
