Ok, here is an honest question that might be looking too far into the details.

I've been told that Thayans who speak Mulhorandi use the Infernal alphabet, those in other parts of toril who speak Mulhorandi use the Celestial Alphabet. Is this true? Just wondering, as then technically, as its written anyway, thayan Mulh. and Mulhorandi Muhl. aren't the same language.

Language of Mulhorand:

The Mulhorandi language comes from a language family known as Rauric. Only Mulhorandi and Untheric survive from this linguistic family; Mulhorandi has preserved much of the old tongue, while Untheric has evolved greatly over the course of millennia. Mulhorandi isan inflected language with many verb tenses and cases; word order is relatively unimportant. It often sounds thick and slow compared to other languages; some say this is due to the heavy influence of priestly rituals on everyday speech. Basic Mulhorandi writing consists of complicated pictureglyphs, each of which represents a different idea; it has become somewhat more abstracted over the course of the last thousand years and consists of a vocabulary of tens of thousands of pictographs. Most Mulhorandi know a basic vocabulary of about 3000 pictographs, while scribes, wizards and priests learn a more extensive vocabulary.

Doesn't say anything about Thay.

If you go strictly by the books, many languages use overlapping alphabets, which leads to a lot of oddities when you, for example, realize that Auran, Draconic, and a few other languages all share the same alphabet, or Gnome, Giant, Dwarven, and Terran, or Infernal, Mulhorandi, Untheric, and Abyssal.

Whats your source? the easiest housrule to this is that every language also has its own written companion language.

Mulhorandi, Infernal, and Abyssal all use same alphabet? That baffles me.

My source is just another friend who plays DnD in my PnP games. I wasn't sure, so I thought I'd post the question here.

I think I'll go with the houserule, just because its simple and easy enough to work with.
