I wasn't generalizing, I was referring to them indirectly by saying "spiders" ;). I have friends in the UD, I'm not downing on you guys.

Besides, it probably would be cool if someone came up with something that happened often for you guys to RP together, no?

Wait, so... If you work your butt off roleplaying, you deserve a DC? DCs are not a right, they're a privelage. I think people (those who have a problem with it; not everyone) need to stop worrying about DCs and focus on the RP. Since when did RP turn into a race to get DCs? That's not why I RP. Heck, I eat just about every DC I get, and I don't have very many DC-Requested items, at all.

This same argument comes up every few months. It gets old.

RP =/= DC, though DC = RP.

They do not go both ways. Period. At least that's how I believe it should be viewed. If you get a DC, great. If not, that doesn't mean your RP sucked, and if you think you deserve a DC, then you're already doing it wrong, and for the wrong reasons.

It would be impossible for me to count on my hands the times I have been involved in something deserving of a DC, or times when others around me got DCs and I didn't. However, on the flip side I have gotten DCs for things I wouldnt even think of. My most memorable "why?" DC was one that I got for trying as hard as I could to cast light on a SD (being a level 8 sorc with very low con and 0 spot). Eventually I was killed and ooc raised, and then I fell and stayed dead. I got a DC for playing my part and keeping IC. Another time I got a DC for simply asking a person in front of Cordor how to get a signet ring. Something as simple as that, trying to find an IC solution to an IC problem, without bringing it up on the forums.

To be honest, now that I have goals to use my DCs on, I am looking at the little number the green rod shows, wishing I never spent 20 on leveling up. But hey, thats the breaks. A simple prod to the DMs when you are on can work wonders. A few weeks ago I sent a tell to the DM channel "Hey, I am on a patrol with two lower level drow and I would like for them to get something out of it, as I am much higher level they are getting no xp or gold" and we got surprised a little while later. It was fun and rewarding for all involved.

You do realize your on a public forum...^^ The tiniest crack in an argument gets a magnifying glass held over it.

---

Oh and I just wana say... this is a topic where a problem was created 'almost' out of thin air. (and I rarely get to say that)

What I read with this complaint is:

Oh there's some good roleplayers who go to the story-time events, it 'seems' like it's a guaranteed DC because DM's often find the event interesting!

..which translates to "Go to Story Night for some Good RP".

..that's my impression anyway, because I don't think favoritism is the issue here..if the drow are feeling like they need a weekly gathering to discuss things, then more power to them, they found a way to increase the chances of getting a DM's attention by roleplaying together...others can do this too, it's typically a 'very good' thing.

The actual 'complaint' would be that you'd prefer the DM's award DC's individually instead of using the group widget...but that tends to make people get left out unless the DM sat and saw every minute of the gathering. (aka they portaled in after the first few stories, or left half-way through to do something else)

Fair enough but I know that Story Night ued to be guaranteed DC's for surfacers, and I don't want it again!

Pretty darn sure as a PC run event and having had tried to have it on regular basis never put up a sign that said "Guarenteed DC". Of course, I only ever got to do it twice.

And... OH YEAH! I loved it anyways ^^ Never got a DC during it.

Yes.

Frequently.

Often.

I request that Disco remove all notifications of receipt of DCs, including visual effects, from PCs. The only message should be that sent to a DM.

On topic: Do story night if your character wants to do story night. Who cares who likes it and who doesn't.

I like this idea, would be nice to be pleasantly surprised to have an extra DC the next time yea decide to randomly use your wand.

If that suggestion meets too much resistance, then 'at least' get rid of the visual effect. (and have the dm's be alerted via chat channel who they gave DC's to)

..incase the difference in the suggestion and alternative wasn't noticed, the variable is whether or not the player gets a message along with the DM.

In either case, scrap the visual plzzzzz. ^^

Torman, good boy!

I say put it so you get a little yellow message on your combat dialogue saying 'You just got a DC' and same feedback 'You just gave Joe Bloggs a DC' for the DM

That green glow is such a cause of complaint.

The point is that players shouldn't notice when they get a DC at all. Probably so they won't flock to DM PCs in hope of getting one, when they have no way of immediately knowing if it pays off. Same with popular events. And it would curb the unnecessary messages DMs receive.

(unless you like to receive them)

While it can be considered welfare DCs, most people do get up and tell a story. Really it isn't an issue. If you really feel you are getting the raw deal make a miscellaneous Farmer Smith to go and tell stories about run away cows.

I usually get a surprise when I get one without the green circle, I notice some point later in the combat log, but knowing that I got it makes me feel good:
I take it as a compliment - someone else saw my RP and they liked it enough to reward me for it. I always send them a thank you for it.

I don't mind the message in the combat log, just the green glow is a tad annoying.

I know you're just kidding, since you obviously love the drow player base. :D

Just wanted you all to know that there is not one, but two events planned for next weekend in the Underdark. *advertises shamelessly* I can't promise DCs, but if you're feeling a bit light-sensitive, too-cool-for-school or outright malicious, swing by with your new drow/UD char! Perhaps our cookies are not as sweet as Cobbs', but they are still delightfully crunchy.
