DM discussion boards, sure, hide the arguments of what happened. Thus, why you can keep in contact via PM on how it is going and things you want to add to it.

Mostly, though, I like those boards for -privacy-.

I'm paranoid that I'd get meta'gamed for a request moved in there if every Jane and Joe got to see it.

*Reads through the thread.*

Uhh....

Yes, this is clearly our method of denying requests, we're all small RL versions of Emperor Palpatine. For those curious, this is our process of DM induction, btw. *Nodnod.*

Now if you'll all excuse me, I have to make sure the construction of Disco's Death Egg is progressing according to schedule.

This is all good stuff, i wasn't intending this to change anything. I mean the servers been her for more than the two years Ive been playing on it.

I just wanted to start really good ongoing discussions, about stuff. I figured this would be a good way to let something im sure more than one player has thought about get into our line of sight.

Now having had it brought up, and having had the dm's so elegantly having handled the onslaught of randoms whys and whats. I want to offer congrats.

And to all you lemmings and fool, who simple stated... "its called the DM board for a reason". Think before you speak.

Granted DM's have the right to "ROLL" behind the lacquered screen. It doesn't always happen. Ive been playing PnP dnd for 16 years and dming for half that. My one thing i always try and do is make sure i ... roll on the proverbial "table"

I know i hate it when a person dming for me sits across, a room leaned back in his recliner chair and rolls on his stomach and says. "I rolled a natural 20 im going first, i rolled a natural 20 i killed the monster". Or "the monster rolled a natural 20 on its ref, takes no dam, i hit it and killed it" You know who you are!!!

But my point is it just seems more fair when i roll on the table people see that i didn't roll a natural 20 and so the monster does die, or in this case gets denied.

And as you said to make one person see the board is to let them all see the board, well... we have DM moderator dudes who write code to custom make stuffs for the game. I think going to myspace stealing the "i want this one blog entry "or one particular request aka not the whole board" to be seen by this one person."

I mean its not even about rewriting the whole web site. Its about taking a piece of program already in existence and putting it to use for the future of the Amia world site.

But I am not attacking our fine dms and i love your persistent world. Its the best of all the servers Ive seen.

You all probably already put in a lot of work, and for that its a big congrats. But to have to randomly pick a dm and hope they get one more then once every two weeks, and hope there not to busy when they do to respond to one persons PM about hey tell me whats going on with my thing. And hoping they don't just get so fed up with being bothered that you get "stern look" Its being discussed.

That's a lot of hoping and it doesn't always pan out.

Anyway, again I only started this for the sake of bringing a topic to life. Please don't hold this against me or ban me from your world. I really do enjoy you all to much.

Guess the answer is pretty simple in the end: we're not a full-time paid administration company. DM's are not discussing your request all the time, and I doubt we can find anyone who's gonna summarise the proceedings for feedback. You don't have to expect any DM saying "Sorry, your request sucks" in public, simply won't happen. So, to make ends meet you'd get about the same setup if you'd be in charge, or you have to do it all yourself and get a burnout in two weeks.

burnt in two weeks, maybe. Like i said, I know your all busy, and dont get paid to moderate, you probably barley get enough money to keep the server and site running.

But you do with what you have. And that's respectable. Hope that doesn't sound snide or gimmicky, but its the truth we cant expect you guys to devote your lives to amia, how would that support life and family i mean we don't pay to play. so its expected that somethings aren't going to be up to par with things like, WOW and FFXI, but you know what i have an account on both and still prefer Amia. Not NWN just Amia. As NWN did horrible job transferring from PnP to computer.

We're actually doing better in this department than WoW of FFXI. Never seen a DM discussing your personal requests in there.

So, when I first got here, I created this pretty ridiculous character. And the request with her like six months later was equally ridiculous.

I'm fine.

In WoW or FFXI, the idea of personally requested items and characters would get you laughed out of the game. ;)

I suggest being less hostile in the future, because at the very core, this is correct.

Forums do not work quite like that, sorry. You can't just steal code from another website and plug it in and expect it to work. As well, it's not 'DM moderator dudes coding custom make stuff', it is Disco who does the scripting, generally by himself.

I play WoW and I must say harassing thier GMs are no where near as fun as harassing Tormak.(how are shifters going :D )

I was talking with one of the GMs and they said that for the most part blizzard trys not to use player suggestions because of legal reason(AKA you used my idea I want compensation in the form of sacks filled with cash) I think its held the game back from being a much better game.

Still like WoW because of Raids,PVP,achievements...ect, I need conditions of victory thats why 90% of the time people will see me hunting on amia, combat has a clear cut condition of victory, your dead I'm less dead.

*yelling with projectile spit* TORMAK HOWZ I R WIN @ RP?

Did someone say... Death Egg?

Anyway, those forums shouldn't be public. They're private forums for the DM to discuss important DM matters. And gossip about the players. And share avian porn.

There are nine, plus designer/dev boards.

There are phpBB mods, that could be used. The catch is, that they are usually in infinite beta-stage, and you don't want to go adding them to a huge and active forum like ours without some rigorous testing in case they fuck up your forum. Code snippets don't just slide into place 99,9% of the time and miraculously do the promised thing.

Is it worth the risk and the work? I don't think so, in this case. There's plenty of other mods I'd rather have on the forums over allowing a single topic in a closed forum to be visible to a single player, while hiding all the other topics.

I don't actually know if there's a mod that would do this trick, anyway. My bet is, that it would allow viewing of all the topic headers in a forum, in any case. So the players would be able to view the titles of even those requests that were sent via PMs, and are to be kept secret, but only read their own topics' contents. Not very practical, and even less practical to add yet another forum for the secret requests.

Granted I'm only a computer major, and not even the hey lets write code 23hours a day kinda computer major. SO like i said stealing and plugging in just "seemed" plausible, not saying do it.

And again i was saying that Amia is WAY better than Both WoW and FFXI because of the fact we can talk to the DM's and stuff gets taken seriously.

I say I've got one DC what can i do with it, you guys say.. >insert list here<.
On FFXI I say someone broke the code of conduct rules about spam farming a rare drop monster they say ... well look into it within the next week or so.

I love this game. Way more than most, heck i've kinda given up my xbox live account to rp with my RL friends here on Amia. Grated my RP often goes noticed, by all but the players kicking it in cordor, its fun. DC's or no, having a 7 year old girl raised by wolves running around reaping havoc on the Cordorian populace got me more then one complement and the fact people are willing to sit through my random RP makes it that much more satisfying.

Get that kinda RP on WoW and FFXI.
