That's not a snide query. However, stating that these things should be done rarely motivates the guilty, who constantly wrestle with the question: why bother?
Unfortunately, that's very true. If someone knows they're an asshat and just can't be bothered enough to attempt to change, then I can't get mad at them. All I can do is feel really sorry that a large part of their self-worth is probably found through attempts to make people feel stupid that may or may not even work and they spend the time doing so through a means of communication that they can't even tell what the reaction of the person is half the time.
