You all need to remember one important thing here, Amia is a RP server not a hack and slash server. I have attempted to do allot of RP within the hunting parties and sometimes it goes well, most time it doesn’t. Allot of players are too intent and focused on exp over that of RP and frankly on a RP server it should be the other way around.
The mechanics on the 5 level rule of parties does take away some of the RP of parties, several times I had to leave a party because I was too high or too low a level and that to me is detrimental to any RP that can be done with multiple level parties. Can’t that be changed some? Why not eliminate the level restrictions of the party and figure out a way where each member gets the exp gain as if they was alone in the area, higher level players that would get 1 exp alone there would still get just 1 exp, those that would get 20 then get 20.
After killing a group of trolls in a certain area it is actually IC to take a break before going into the next section of that area, to mend wounds, to discuss the tactics that worked and didn’t work, to set of a small base camp even and once all rested continue on…ohm, and do not forget posting guards so you are not ambushed. There are many ways to RP out things while hunting.
Sure, go ahead and lead by example, it is the best way to create a RP atmosphere but typically it can not be done that way alone. DM support to enforce more RP is also needed as well. A DM can indeed slow parties down if they are moving too fast through a area just out to gather Exp but just setting up DM created spawns where none typically are triggered or even create a few with harder to kill NPC where it forces the party to take a IC rest.
I guess the main question is this, is Amia a RP server or a action hack and slash server? The players and DMs need to decide that, the players more so then the DMs.
One more point, when you are out to just create enjoyment only for yourself you will tend to ignore all others, try to create enjoyment for others as well and you will find that your own enjoyment will increase as well.

I think I read that on the side of a pack of smokes once, right beneath the "Smoking Kills" bit.
Anyhow, your suggestion of giving XP to each person as if they were alone wasn't thought out too well, example:
Bob is level 1, Frank is level 30.
Frank takes Bob to a level 30 Area and makes Bob invisible. Frank kills monsters, Bob is making XP as if he was "alone" in the area, killing level 30 monsters.

A solution to the situation Godo is describing is just to Leave the party, but continue to hunt beside them.
As long as it's genuine RP going on, and you're not "babysitting" anyone, so to speak, I don't think anyone has a problem with that, especially if your level-up happened when you're out in the middle of nowhere, and you don't want to have to come up with a reason out of the blue your character has to go somewhere else.
That, or just don't take your level until the other person catches up. Which is a lot easier when you think about it. And if the RP's what you're staying for, you shouldn't mind not getting your next level for a few more minutes.

I'm fairly sure you're not allowed to do that. You're either working together in the same party while hunting or not working together.

I have an idea to partially fix the mechanical issue, but you won't like it.
At the moment, so long as the lowest and the highest are within five levels of each other, everyone gains XP, even if it means that the highest will soon zip out of level range.
The first fix is to award no XP and double gold to the highest, if the difference between highest and lowest is five levels. This means that eventually the lowest will catch up enough that everyone is getting XP, but in the meantime the highest will only get gold.
The second fix is to stop the highest short just before the point where they would get enough to level up, until the lowest party member has gained enough experience to level up, or until the highest or lowest have left the party.
Neither of these are perfect, but they do allow party members to continue as they are without someone having to leave (unless they really want to leave). They still don't help when you unwittingly make a party which has characters more than five levels apart, but you really ought to know the levels of the party before inviting.

Or the highest could just not take the level, and that way still get gold and xp. Otherwise you'll have the higher levels not wanting to travel with lower (except for ECL 30s wanting to travel with 25s).

That’s why we have DMs in the first place, to stop such blatant power leveling. The higher level player should know better in the first place to do such a thing. Now there might be some times where a level 30 player takes a level 3 player through a high level area for RP reason but not to be hunting those areas, just a fast route through to get to the place they are headed for the RP they are doing. As it stands now high level players are truly restricted in interaction RP with lower levels.
The five level limit in parties only creates allot of level separation RP, if your going to do that then why even have levels hidden in the first place? Separating levels into groups between 5 levels doesn’t help out the RP atmosphere at all, it deters it. I have heard some even complain of a high level character in the low level areas, they shouldn’t even know the levels of their fellow players. Again I must state that on a RP server you should be RPing the character not the level.

I'm not adding "look for level 30's OOCly powerlevelling their level 3 friends" to my laundry list of things to look for that people still do eve though they should really know better and often say they do but got lazy and did it anyways.

If you're a level 30, and you want to help a lvl 3 level, get a DM to watch

Umm do you realise that the current rules state that anyone following along in a group, MUST be in the same party? So your solution -is- strictly against the current rules.

Sound is right, just hold of on the level till they cautch up if you have leveled out of party range, or make an ic excuse to leave for a small time "I need to get supplies and sell some of this junk we have found, anyone want an ale upon my return?" If your way beyond levels you still need to be in party to be there or you are babysitting.
All it takes is one click of a wand and we know if your in party or not to so be ware.
And yes ill have an ale thanks.

There is no mechanical issue to this problem. And in regards to "Creating enjoyment for yourself means that you ignore other people." Nein, no, you're wrong. Use your head is all I'm saying, don't cry on the forums saying that the playerbase of Amia is a load of bollock-screwing powergamers.
I'm pretty sure we're ALL aware this is an RP server, so we don't have to remember anything except to enjoy the game. You're not going to change anybody's mind by presenting this issue on the forums. Bloody RP for christ sake and maybe you will influence someone else.
You're applying too much stigma to this situation (which is only a situation because of the said stigma being applied).
Hence why I stated this thread is stupid, and I maintain that it is.
