Is the original post edited correctly to what has been discussed in this forum? There still seems to be a 10 int requirement and sneak attack requirement, or are savage, stealthy, barbaric hunters not allowed? Or a sd with no sneaks but dev crit? Or a shadowdancer caster cleric, sorcerer, or wizard?

Just wanted some clarification.

It clearly states sneak attack as feat is not required. If you are barbarian fighter who can kill someone in sublety, then by all means join.

And about the intelligence, well as muchs as I'd love to speak on behalf of the leader, I really can't. It does make sense in one way that you wouldn't hire an idiot or idiots to do the important jobs. On the other hand, every faction has their thugs that rough people up say in interrogation or else. Still, I cannot say the official stand on this. 10 would be good as it is the average. I wouldn't require more myself, but would require atleast 9.

Yeah, we're usually pretty understanding when discussing the character. Sneak attack isn't required. I thought that was a good idea at first, but that's the literal definition of the assassin. The actual class. We are the liberal idea of an assassin. Anybody can be one. But know this; Assassins are smart. They HAVE to be smart. Though a normal assassin would have 12 Int or higher, we require only 10. It's not asking alot. Just two points. Honestly below 10 doesn't really make sense as far as I'm concerned. Yes as Quarter stated there are thugs in every organization, but think of the organization you'd be joining. As Assassins, we are required to be smart, not always stealthy in the literal form, but even strength based assassins are stealthy to get the kill. Maybe not in the traditional sense, but say like disguising themselves as a blind monk( Like in the Witcher 2) and slitting the victim's throat well they aren't paying attention. Sure we'd have thugs, but they have to be coherent thugs, ones capable of speech, reasoning etc. We have a hob goblin, and a high ranking WM as an assassin in our group. They are intelligent, but strong adversaries. They are considered the thugs, but are still assassins. Intelligent, calculating assassins. More or less.

Killing someone in cold blood for profit is inherently evil in D&D. It doesn't matter if you think your character should be neutral. If you take money, then go out with the intent of slashing someones throat, and do so, you have just commited an evil act. Thus you will be shifted towards evil.

The difference between a Merc & an Assassin is a fine line represented by this. A Merc doesn't get paid to kill someone specfically, they get paid for a service such as protecting someone or something, capturing someone or something etc etc. Killing is a by-product, not the intent. Killing is the intent as an assassin, not the by-product. Your a professional killer, a hard edged person who's developed his/her skills in every way to end the lives of living beings. Killing on Amia is treated far to casually.

So personally the OOC alignment restriction fit just fine in my opinion. I believe the main problem here is people wanting to be assassins without the stigma that comes from being a professional killer.

Well of course there is that, yet there aren't enough actually experienced assassins so I figured training them in this respect would be fine. Technically they aren't REAL assassins in the organization until they kill someone. Their is of course, the background story of their characters to take into account(Was an assassin before, etc) And as for the alignment, that's exactly how I saw it when I typed it up, and I've been getting mostly evil as it goes, as I figured it should be. The act of assassination is an evil act in D&D, and this isn't Assassin's Creed. I stated a few times that we aren't really mercenaries so I don't see the point in being neutral yet I just figured the least amount of restrictions as possible in this would be fine. As long as we don't have anybody arguing I should allow good aligned assassins.

That and the act of sneaking in and murdering someone for a bit of money isn't a good aligned thing to do. Assassination =/= Delivering death to someone who deserves it IMO

Good thing about Assassins is that you don't even need to sneak. A subtle killing is only one way to kill someone. Bit of advice for any assassins out there, don't get stuck in the thinking that every killing has to be subtle and sneaky. Some of the best assassinations around the world were loud, in your face, and violent. The end result is still achieved.
