I suppose it is now time for a new player-led 'faction' to take the lead with auctions. Characters leave items with auctioneers, with a reserve price attached. Auctioneers sell items, and take a slice of the sale value. Just how they operate for real. Of course, after not very long they might amass a considerable sum, and arrange a writ or license in effect monopolising auctions, so they ~have~ to be conducted through them. That should lead to a nice bout of mercantile/lawyeristic RP, and the establishment of a guild, as well as a nice line in rogue RP for the inevitable black market auctions..

Or, status quo, of course. Ho-hum.

this, its not a bad idea, certainly could work for some good rp, but your basically asking everyone to stop doing sales themselves to do this. as such I can't see it working, merchant guilds have and do, auctioneer factions, idk.

Hahahaha, sure, long as you get the rest of the playerbase to not bitch when someone fakes themselves as a member and steals the items they are given to auction.

Its funny, I could see a thief stealing Epic Items to be hated more then any Mass Murdering evil doer or world ending monster. Sure, a couple of world ending artifects in the hands of evil doers is fine, but I'll cut your damned balls off if you take my +5 Cloak of Fort!!!!

I think lying about the geographic origin of trade profits is more than cool - if done with style.

Did you know that the Amian Crafter's and Trader's Ferderation office in Cordor has never ever had a taxable income, despite decades of sucessfull epic trading? This is mostly because they pay HUUUUUUUUGE marketing and 'corporate fees' to their HQ in Forstakkr, which is a tax free haven of sorts - effectively moving their profits out of taxable range.

It's all in the books, and one nosy journalist from the Amian Recorder almost broke the story. However, the crafty ACTF PR agents managed to divert her attention elsewhere in the last second. Also there was some headbutting involved.

At least that was integral to my RP back in the day. *Sighs*

... Ick, that wouldn't end well at all.
