I've been told that, apparently, Bendir Law only applies within the internal walls of Bendir; and it's only DM legislated to 'allow' it within that space. Is this true?
AFAIK the Law extends to anywhere an NPC can find you in an area. That is why, if you want to go into Cordor, or Winya, when you are not permitted to do so, you need a DM on hand so the guards can react. Otherwise it's metagaming the guards! Obviously there are some exceptions, the Road in front of the Nexus falls is pretty safe from NPC guards and i'd think going around Barak Runedar's wall is fine too.
Now the fun part is, how far the law of an area extends when it comes to player enforcing, which is pretty much as far as the player is willing and able to enforce it.
I suppose the real question is if someone that is banned from Dale itself can still use the carts, or walk thru the area to reach the next given the lack of simple means to get around. So with that in mind i suppose it's logical that the NPCs will only enforce the law inside their inner walls, but PCs can still enforce it outside. I know one PC that is banned from the Dale that, afaik, simply does not enter that area at all.
a dm answered the question pretty clearly when the walls went in.
but i still have no idea why the carts are inside the walls at all. considering how 'zealous' some of the players can be when it comes to enforcing wall-laws.
It's always been a thing that you can use the carts in an area you're banned from if you're only doing just that - using the cart system. You can't loiter etc
They used to be just outside the bridge on the north side of the river, but I think there was issues with their transitions.
i remember talking about moving them outside the walls to that spot, but i've never seen them anywhere but right near the corner they currently are. i've never seen them in a place that would be 'outside' the current external wall.
I've been told that, apparently, Bendir Law only applies within the internal walls of Bendir; and it's only DM legislated to 'allow' it within that space. Is this true?
This is the regular case, but since this is a PW, common sense also applies in the ruling. Now during the ant alarm...do not be surprised if the guards throw someone out. PCs or NPCs.
Cart system can be used regardless, just don't loiter if you are banned.

I played somewhere that had "ban tokens". It was a nondroppable item that caused NPC gate guards to attack you on sight, hidden or not. This would also from invis/ sneaking people from metagaming into town, an infraction I witness often. These tokens were also applied to subraces and awarded with certain prestige classes, like RDD. Just something to consider.

Boi. If I gotta attack guards every time I enter an area we're gonna have a whole lotta NPC corpses. :^]

Oh that belongs to the domesticated/livestock category. So it is allowed, yes.
Yes sorry. Should have specified. The System does not allow you to spawn animals in most areas where it would make sense. Such as Greengarden, Feylake, Kohl West, Cordor North. etc etc. it comes up with "You cannot spawn animals in this area" Might be a tileset thing but it's hinky >.>'
Also might be the wrong thread for this, sorry.

That's what I thought you meant! Mechanically. This is something that might be able to be fixed, though. I'm not sure how the Job System pulls valid areas for those, but I think it's a variable a Dev has to set. So I'm sure it can be fixed eventually! Just make a bug report here. Be as detailed and specific as possible. The exact job, the exact animal, the exact areas you tried, etc.

Harvest time is around nowish so it is changing for the better, most likely.

Is this across all lands or specifically Amia?
It depends on where. Some areas are definitely involved.
Ruathym has a more or less harsh climate, so in their case food is a more crucial thing and the climate makes it harder to produce. They tend to rely on root plants, such as potato, onion as wheat and barley are a bit too risky to produce there.....since you never know when the subarctic winter will hit Ruathym harder than usually. Thus they are more consciously focus on storing the food and possibly import it when they can. But imported food is more expensive now from Amia, and the nearest mainland regions (Luskan, LA cities)do not favor Ruathym people when it comes to tolls. Wiltun might be better off with the climate since it the southernmost part of Ruathym. However, the terrain they have (rocky islands, fragment of a cursed island) still makes things difficult.
Forrstakkr and Brog can only produce a limited number of food. Same applies to Endir's. They tend to rely on food import, but Frozenfar is far-far away on the mainland so they do not necessarily rely on the areas that are represented on the server when it comes to food import. That definitely has an impact on them too.
is the age of quality gear affordable by all at an end? are we now in an age of 'old mythal moneybags' that we have to suck up to those that managed to farm up 100's of them before the change to the loot?

Are you distraught people save mythals? I hardly consider anyone hoarding any particular mythal, unless you're Aerline. What changes to the loot would be required to satisfy you?
If +5 wasn't so mando it wouldn't be a big deal, but considering a +4 means you gotta blow through both primo and stoneskin before you do dmg then yeah.
Frankly at this point it's not that big of a deal, but with the ez flawless's gone it just means more reasons to horde dc's and rather then spend them on fun RP stuff, you just blow them on a weapon with more numbers.
But I already got mine so it's largely irrelevant. I'm sort of switching to a "fuck you got mine" stance now, as every argument I've made in favor of making it easier to gear out a pc gets shouted down, and I slog through RP in order to get the DC's to just request the gear I need that won't drop, and I actually have what I need to be a functional character on amia gear-wise.

It's epic stuff, it shouldn't be easy to get. I've been here seven years and my main is still looking for certain things. Sorry that you can't get everything you want in the two weeks it takes you to max level, but a lot of your complaints haven't really been an issue with most before. Hell, my character has had one flawless and one perfect mythal, and maybe seen them a few times in his existence. Slow down and enjoy the ride, man, you don't have to always go to the drive-thru for that quick fix. Getting the right gear takes time and effort, and a bit of luck. You don't have to be max level, or have all the best gear to be functional on this server, that is proven time and again.
My first character on Amia, she was 15 paladin, 5 cleric, 10 Champion of Torm with 21 strength and 16 charisma, and with a single epic item to her name. she went on to become a bona fide knight of Kohlingen and eventually became that little old lady who'd stand in Kohlingen for hours on end wagging her finger and ne'er-do-wells before her retirement. Gear doesn't make the man, RP does.

To be fair I think DC weapons and armour should have more of an RP story behind them rather than just something you buy because its +5, like Cory's handaxe with its history. Just because it is a weapon doesn't mean its RP value is any less than... say, Shana's diary item that has no use other than being an IC prop connecting my forum posts to in game play.
I actually have two +5 items and only use one all the time. Everything else is +4 or lower and at times something's are frustrating and time consuming... but I'm not finding the server unplayable because I'm not coated in epic gear!

If you say so.
HoJo became the Headmaster of the Magisterium Mortis within a year and he still needs certain gear.. There's only been one Headmaster for the past few years. I think that's a big rp step without having complete gear.. And if you expect to find, say, a Tome of Mystra fast, your'e wrong.. Some Epic Gear you may want, as many do, will be more difficult than a RP position.
Gear doesn't make your character, stop saying that. It only matters for PvP and, sometimes, bosshunting. Seriously, the logic is failed.
And the Flawless was removed from the Phane a week ago (I think). Finally. That should NEVER have been a guaranteed Flawless and I am so glad to see it go. It threw things off kilter majorly.
For reference I have a char that has a number of Flawless yet they never once fought the Phane, most gotten from other bosses or from trading. You can get them elsewhere still (and the Phane can still drop them, he's a regular epic boss now).

With things like Djinn around, it's really a fail to cry about a lack of proper equipment.
Also, as said by many others, equipment does not make a character. At least on a RP server.

I think people may see this in many different lights. Yes. It is super frustrating for Melee characters...especially STR based ones to not be able to hit the amount of AC they need to not get shredded to pieces. Personally I look at folks like Cory and Tom (sorry. Torsten. He hates being called Tom now). With the amount of swag, epic loot, item/ ability requests they have recieved over the years, its frustrating not to be able to keep up with them out of the gate. Well. This has something to do with actual years and years of faithful adventuring with the same character. A guy that has been on the Island less than two weeks had zero chance of reaching that sort of status. It just makes zero RP sense. Personally I make characters who are functional without epic gear. If you are factoring +5 into the numbers of your build...then you are going to have to be patient for the end product. My builds always involve +4 when I consider it's viability. If I get +5..sweet. If not, no biggie, I'll just have to take the time to become a badass, before trying to RP one.

No, gear matters. See, while some are content sitting around, some of us arn't content to just do that. To just sit.
See, I'm not a big fan of DM event conflicts. I'm thoroughly unconvinced they are started w/o a specific outcome in mind. Either it's something like the ant alarm, which was so easy I don't think the ants had any hope of actually threatening the isle at all, or it's something like the recent event we did, that was artificially ended after a literal hour of slaughtering infinity respawning enemies, until the DM's said there would be permanent consequences including permanent death if we continued; something that freaked people out so bad they literally alt+f4'd on the spot and hit me up later saying they never ever would have come if they knew they could be perma-killed, because success wasn't ever even on the table there.
So because most DM sponsored conflicts are predicable and literally nothing can actually threaten or meaningfully hit a city so 'dug in' like Cordor or Kohl or even Bendir as we saw (I'm banking on the Wharftown conflict being an excuse to re-do the area and not be a real conflict), it's just boring. There's the bad guy, it's a liar, and a thief, and/or it's evil, and an aggressor, go kill it. So then people do that. The end.
But I think that's boring. It's why I seek out player based conflicts. Player based conflicts also have the added benefit of being against actual thinking, breathing human beings; fighting a force of 10 people in something means you have 10 minds that could each independently act on their own or come up with a better plan. It's more exciting, and stuff is actually on the line, look how many times Endir's Point changed hands in the past year. Lots of that was because of fighting, and what makes it exciting, is unlike DM sponsored conflict, it's unpredictable, and you can actually lose. Our strategy for defending the Fort was an ENORMOUS ic gamble, and it worked. We could have lost the whole thing, but we won. Was Bendir ever at actual risk with 40+ silver dragons, 30 winya gards, and a handful of feldrakes standing by? Fuck no. When the ants actually attacked the city they got crushed in seconds.
I know some people go to great lengths to avoid conflict, even when it might be IC to peruse it, but not everyone is willing to just sit around and let that kind of stuff stand.
And that's why gear matters, because while the mechanical bar for DM conflict events is so low you could literally push a corpse over it;
Kudark wrote:

and the DM's or whoever don't make stuff that's actually threatening, players do. That's why player based conflicts, like the recent fort thing, are actually entertaining.
Not to mention, not every area on the server actually gets developer love. I'm currently on standby waiting for an ic book to get sent to me, a door to get unlocked in module (which might take a long while), and other long long delays. Some people can do some RP about getting a hole dug and get something cool added quickly, while others are just left making due with what's there. With nothing changing and endless waiting, you have to seek out player driven conflicts or there's nothing really to do. Some of us can't even count on events you did in game getting any attention at all.
And that's not bad; its a team of volunteers, nobody is getting paid, you have to play at their pace. But player on player pace is instant. And player on player needs gear.
Because of all that, we fight players in player driven plots, not DM's. Because of that, we don't wait for a DM to get on then go on patrol wondering what crazy monster it might spawn for us to kill then pat each other on the back for. Because of that, numbers and gear actually matter. Because of that, fights don't have predicable endings. Because of that, someone can actually lose in a non pre-determined and non artificial way. These kinds of stories, real people in conflict with other real people over various reasons, is far far far far more interesting to me then a lot of what happens elsewhere.
And you need high numbers to do it and be good at it and not lose and suffer actual consequences.
Thank you for painting with a broad brush, Commie.
All I will say is that I have been in my share of, well, everything in my time on the server and hardly any of my characters had epic gear. So, no, you entire belief that you need epic gear to do anything is faulty. If you is how you choose to play, then that is totally fine. However the facts stand that you are incorrect.
