I've been studying up on sheer genius that is Gnome..and I noticed that.. I don't see a lot of them in-game. So. Where my Gnomies be at? ..er. yeah. Are they just an unpopular race with the player base or are they all secretly tucked away somewhere quietly ignoring the world.. well. Just like gnomes should be. But seriously, how much gnome-a-ry is there going on out there? |

Gnomes just seem to be pretty unpopular. There are more svirfneblin players than regular gnomes though, I think. |

I blame halflings and Dwarves for being better at each genre than the gnome who is typically relegated to Mad Scientist NPC places. |

I blame ape-like arms and noses that could do 1d4 piercing if they wanted. Why look like that when you can be a pretty princess? |

I was afraid of that. Gnome's are fun.. although.. I have.. no .. idea.. NO idea... why on earth bioware chose to sculpt them as such. They really shouldn't look much different than halflings..other than the nose bits. It's a shame.. as they have some pretty interesting Lore, though I couldn't say how much is cannon (check out Races of Stone for some nifty insights) |

Gnomes look okay with some of the robe clothes, but otherwise they look like bonsai people. ;_; |

Speaking of gnomes, this reminds me of tinkering. The gnomes we know kinda seem watered down from what I always thought them to be in PnP. Not stat wise, but in the "Ooh, we're great inventors who make magnetic armors, rifles, mechanisms, etc." I think Ive seen a few "tinkered/invented" gnome items, but I think they had just a spell casting of some sort. Gnomes dont even have a community set up like elves, dwarves, and halflings do as far as I know. Maybe that's why no one plays them as much as others. No base of operations so to speak. Svir hold claim to Underport I think because of the Idol of Smoothands. Maybe begin a gnome community and see if that starts a flourish of new gnome pcs? And while you're at it, some scripted widgets to represent the types of things gnomes would create might not be a bad idea either. If there was a "tinkering/inventing" system that gnomes would have a knack for or better access to, I'm sure their rp would increase along with their numbers. |

I actually had something similar in mind.. I want to bring back a PnP character I had once, in times past.. I'd like to put together a gnome artisan/engineer/inventor... wizard/rogue.. And.. was seriously considering dropping DC as I went along on his gadgets... "Meredoc Phindelis Fin's Clockwork Crossbow of Repitition" (ergo.. heavy crossbow with that grants the rapid shot feat..or the like).. Drop heavy points into Craft Weapns/Armor/(and maybe Trap just to represent his clockwork bits?) If there were eventually some sort of system in place.. that would be super.. but for now I'll have to settle for RP and mythal crafting... And possibly take up residence in the Dale. |

Well, what you have is a Catch 22. Since there are so few gnomes, no one wants to make them, but until more people make them, no one will want to make them. The same goes for the city idea. A city is a big undertaking, and you need a player base before you get a city, but if the theory that no one plays them because they don't have one is right, then you won't have a big player base until you get a city. |

Won't know 'til we try, eh? And I don't think it'd need to be a "city" per say. A village or settlement about, or a little smaller, than Warftown might be just as good. Then, if/as more people start playing gnomes, it can grow into a town, then maybe a bustling city. Start off with something simple that could be made in one sitting. A few npcs, a potion merchant, a meeting hall, and you have your very own gnome starter-kit. |

..At the very least we can develope a "Gnomish Quarter" in the Dale.. *shifty eyes* ..Gnome ghetto. Siiigh. In any case.. if anyone is really interested, I'll have a gnome PC in-game before long.. ironing out the finer aspects of the background..and erm.. getting familiar with the magic system in NWN (D'oh) If anyone wants to help me with the latter.. heh. |

I've got...i think that i've got two gnome characters. A rogue and a barbarian i recall. Gnomes are really fun to play. I cant play a dwarf right, and halflings are too close to my own personality. too bad that there aren't many of them. Isn't there some kind of an ''gnome testing area'' or whatever in amia? (cant remember where) That would be a good place for a gnome village. |

People don't make gnomes because Bioware made their arms look stupid. |

In my honest opinion, because Bioware never implimented a wide varity of PnP spells, spending DCs on Gnomish devices will prove tiresome. That being said, I think it would be awesome to see a Gnome with a Shield Guardian summon reksin. |

Last time I played my gnome, I was told to turn it down a notch. So now I play less annoying characters <.< |

I've got a gnomish wizard I play every here and there. If I see a gnome hanging around the Dale I'll dust him off. He lives in Bendir which is where you should hang out, seriously a few more gnomes wouldn't hurt the rp there. |

This topic reminds me of The Laughing Gnome by David Bowie. Mostly because of the witty title of the thread. |
