Is there a Ghostwise Society in Amia?
I mean, have some players madea clan or few to Amia? As I got interested in it, and would love to make ghostwise halfling, to already existing clan.
PS: If this is or will grov larger, could it become a own faction? A whole clan of ghostwises.

There is not. Grove, Bendir Dale, chillin' in the Forest of Despair, do something like that! Start one up!
Also, this should be in General Discussion.

There's several of them who've gone civilised for want of a better word...but I haven't seen any really wild ones no...

In the Dale, all hin live together in harmony(most of the time), regardless of subrace. And yes, there are a few ghostwise characters floating around. They're just seldom played and so less prominent.

There are a number of us around. Some more wild than others. But mostly they stick to themselves and their select friends they have among Dale residents. So yeah, there's no Ghostwise group. It's been tried before btw with little success.

Just needs dedicated players. Four friends with Ghostwise characters are more than enough. It makes little sense of Ghostwise to live in Bendir Dale, though, since the whole point of the subrace is that they exiled themselves from the halfling community.

Aye. It's bit sad that players don't play their ghostwises 'ghostwise'. Silent (or mute, thus not practising speaking), close to own kin, only who they know. move in group, hardly ever alone.
Quote: Ghostwise are the most mysterious of the halfling races and few have ever visited their secluded homes. After the savagery they fell into during the Hin Ghostwars, the few remaining Ghostwise halflings imposed an exile upon themselves and left Luiren, settling into Chondalwood. They now avoid contact with other races, wandering the woods quietly.
Ghostwise society consists of several clans, each of which inhabits their own slice of the Chondalwood. Family and clan are extremely important to Ghostwise halflings, and the clan follows their leader where ever he or she goes. Each clan has their own patron deity picked from the halfling pantheon, though Sheela Peryroyl and Urogalan are perhaps the most important powers to the Ghostwise.
Their nomadic lifestyle means that most Ghostwise are barbarians, rogues or rangers. Some clans befriend giant owls and mount them to defend their territory from the air. These champions are known as nightgliders. There are very few arcane casters among the Ghostwise, and wizards are virtually non-existant: the Ghostwise are generally illiterate. Clerics and druids, on the other hand, are rather common.
Highlighted the parts I see are to be valued. And I really would like to start a clan now. If someone interested.

I can see now why it failed before, as gunz has mentioned.
Why would anyone want to play antisocial hin on an RP server?
It's hard enough to find people who are dedicated to one character.
I just don't see the concept coming to fruition on such a small playerbase.

No no no. They are not anti social, but they do NOT -want- (there are exceptions, those who stand some others) to be in contact with others than their friends and clan. THUS why I wnt to make whola clan, and 'family', so they WOULD have that social enviroment to be in, and still RP it well. And in a bigger group, they most likely would accept few outsiders with better ease.

Well, as some of the people in this thread know, Akly (my main) is a Ghostwise. I have never seen another one in the dale in the last two-three months, or at least one that said or showed somehow that they were Ghostwise. I mention Akly’s grey-ish skin in his short bio, and picked a light grey skin color, which looks better in game than it does in character creation.
I think I do a decent enough job of it, and yes, it is hard, both on an RP server, and in general. Keeping quiet, being largely distrusting of people he doesn’t know, pretty much completely avoiding “tallers” unless it is utterly impossible. This doesn’t leave you many friends, or hunting companions. I think it’s a very different problem than all the arrogant “I am the greatest most badass dude on the islands” toons, who are so prevalent people pretty much ignore that part of it, or just make “friends” with them anyway. He does have a couple people in the dale he trusts at this point, and that will talk to him a bit, so that makes it a bit easier. The usual hin disposition helps with this, as even if he isn’t very welcoming to them, they certainly are to him.
The hardest part is that the inherent distrust of unknowns and tallers makes him almost completely *opposite* of the regular hin “hey, come on in! have an ale, heres some stew!” attitude. Which then leads to a bit of animosity from the other hin. Talk about not fitting in.
I think if you were going to do a small clan of them, you would need to start them all together and RP that they already know each other, for sure. You just cant “meet” in Amia and expect to make the kind of background bond needed to form a clan.
This was just going to be a short post, but turned into the monstrosity you see above. Apologies.

No. One thing everyone is forgetting is that in order for a Ghostwise to LEAVE the Chondalwood and their tribe behind for new lands, they would have to either of been kidnapped, enslaved, or be a bit of a rebel in comparison to other Ghostwise that live in the Chondalwood. Sure, they should have a lot of quality's that their brethren back in the Chondalwood have but to state that they have to be by the books is ridiculous. If that were the case, everyone delete your Ghostwise characters because, in 99.9% of the cases, they wouldn't be on Amia to begin with.
Ghostwise on Amia CAN talk, they CAN talk to other Hin and, rarely, to other races if they like. My Ghostwise talks, but mostly to only other Hin. He doesn't live in the Dale, he has a tent he takes with him and he sleeps in different parts of the Amia forest and the Hin graveyard protecting the realm of his deity.

Creating a small isolated group sounds like antisocialism to me, given the size of the playerbase. Unless your definition of friends extends to any PC you come into contact with.
You can try though. Just be warned players will abandon their PCs about a month later. That's just how small concept groups work on Amia.
RP for a week or two, get bored, scuttle, make new characters.

Nothing wrong with that, though. I don't get the obsession to make all-round, comfortable long-term characters. Some of the best RP I've had has been on characters I didn't play for longer than a week or two, or with such characters. One of them was Zeus_Lightning's ghostwise, in fact. He was a bit insane, still stuck on the Hin Ghostwars, and wanted to eat my lightfoot's fingers. >_>

For long term RP. That's how some people become faction leaders.

*sighs* I am making a clan that left Chandelwood, becouse they not part of the bigger cults of ghostwises, and the bigger clans didn't give them any areas. So they were sad. They wanted home. They bedan to travel. And they thought to go somewhere far away, from the acual main land, so there would not be so much people there, and they saw Amia as an opportunity. They took it and few of them went scouting ahead, one or two returning to tell the message to others, that it looks like a good place.
I know ghostwise can talk. I know that they don't have 'talking via thought', not atleast normaly. If few players start RP:ing that they have one, and manage in it good. NP. Don't ask me how. I'm just saying. I will btw try it.
And As I was trying to point out, they did not leave their tribe for good. THey are just scouts looking for a better place. The first few (including me) ghostwises in the clan are those who came to scout ahead. The rest will follow as they get there. So no, they don't have to be kidnapped, enslaved or be rebels of any kind. It is not rebel to have own clan, and search for home as other clans said NO.
PS: It is more likely that there is a clan of GW:es in Amia, than just lots of random GW:s. Okay, there aint that many seen around. They play their other chars you see? And besides, the ghostwise are not seen so often, so when they are not playing, they still have some kind of RP:ing.

Is that so.. My elf char Cailing Selana was a long term char, and I did try to get into the Council, even said that in IC many times. And I didnt get any nominations, nor elected. And this happened twice.
So I lost my nerves and perma killed her

RP doesn't always have to be long-term, though. Your example scenario actually has the potential for great RP: you get to know someone, and when they're just about to reach the goal they've worked for so hard, they.. die. It's tragic, it changes the other characters involved and perhaps gives them new goals and insights into life. And it gives you a chance to explore many new roles. A Rashemaar barbarian who's on his spirit journey to Amia won't stay for long, unless you come up with some excuse. So finish his quest and have him go back home. Or play the evil villain who plots something malicious to hamper a group of heroes, until he's stopped and either killed or put in jail for life.
Not everything needs to be long-term. Oftentimes, long-term also means stagnant. And I'm not saying not to create and lead factions, build long storylines and play characters for years; not at all! However, I'm saying it's not the only type of RP you can engage in. Sticking to only characters like that narrows down the options you have for story-telling and character portrayal.
So I guess what I'm saying is, don't stress about keeping your faction alive for long. If you've got a small group of good players, you can have fun just for a few weeks and then end the story in a fitting way, creating fond memories for all of you. And if you do end up having tons of fun and interesting plotlines, nothing keeps you from continuing for as long as you feel like it. Not everything needs to be forever.

The problem with creating a "temporary character", as it were, is that on Amia, if you want your character to do X big thing, or Y other thing, you tend to need levels, and levels are a lot of work to get. So you end up spending all this time leveling a character, and meeting people, and all that, and suddenly he dies, or is arrested, or whatever. It sort of makes it feel like you've wasted your time.
Generally, on Amia, no one really remembers you character, anyway, so it just feels like you played a character for months only to do something dramatic and for no one to care past the moment that it happens.

Just a few points. I do have a ghostwise that is seen in the Dale often but doesn't reside there and doesn't stay there for long periods of time. Her and her cat are most always seen around the forests. Ghostwise can and do talk but most have taken a vow of silence.
Quote: Language: Language and Literacy
Because of their particular racial talent (telepathy), the ghostwise hin do not learn tounges other than their own with as much frequency as other races. The matriarchs and patriarchs of the various clans are apt to learn, in addition to their native languages, Chondathan and Sylvan, while clerics and druids most commonly express an interest in Sylvan and sometimes Gnoll. The typical ghostwise clan member, however, speaks only those languages that the race receives automatically (Common, Halfling, and regional).
No ghostwise are literate, except for individuals with player character classes other then barbarian
This race of Halflings, known by many as "The Silent,” have developed a complex language of body expressions and hand movements. This language is so intricate that they do not need to speak in order to communicate with one another. Even when a ghostwise does speak, 90% of the time they use an old version of a halfling dialect originated during the racial split. Nevertheless, they are respectful of others, and will do their best at speaking the common language in the presence of those who will not understand them.
There is no in-game equivalent of the Ghostwise silent language or their spoken dialects. Player characters must have a minimum intelligence of 12 to be fluent in another language.
This is with the exception of the telepathy as it isn't used on Amia.
I have found so far about 4-5 ghostwise running around and you just have to look for them. Just because you don't see them doesn't mean that they aren't there.
On another note Reen would love to have a little settlement of ghostwise, but she has also pledged her loyalty to the grove, nature, and the protection of the balance so that would always come first for her.

If your storyline is about passing scouts, then yes, it's a good short term plan with potential. It's alot of work to be an effective leader. Be responsible to your clan players. An important detail I forgot to mention is that your character has to work for it and build a positive reputation in your society. Granted, sometimes things don't go your way because of nepotism/cronyism in both IC and OOC levels.

(Insert 2 cents here)
My ghostwise has been on since about 2 years ago. Shifter. She has taken the vow of silence because of her druidish leanings, and is illiterate. And she wears a mask to hide her races "Shame" over the ghostwars. She doesn't reside in the dale, but after a bit of RP, does feel safe while visiting. She left the chondalwood after her village was hellballed and she was enslaved with the few other survivers. I play her as living in the amia forest on A, and the Niflwood on B. She is elusive to say the least.
She can talk, just doesn't. And becuase we don't get the telepathy, I use the "Ghostwise Sign Language" as a work around. Still, two years of nothing but gesture emotes to explain everything isn't easy to do. Every ghostwise is played a little different depending on the players interpretation of their racial history/profile, but the point is, we're here, but you have to find us.

Actually they do normally talk through telepathy, just not on Amia because it's against the rules. Daniel_Waynold wrote: So no, they don't have to be kidnapped, enslaved or be rebels of any kind. It is not rebel to have own clan, and search for home as other clans said NO.
Well, it kind of is a rebellion, what you're describing. If they never had land, that means they started a new tribe and wanted land of their own. When the traditional and long standing tribes told them to go suck on a lemon they left to find their own spot outside of their world, Chondalwood. That makes them kinda rebellious if you ask me.
In any case, I don't really care what you call it to be honest. The only reason I said anything about it is because your comment was pretty snotty and it seemed you were taking a cheap shot at ghostwise players for "not being ghostwise".

I ment that it's not used in Amia. Bad word selection I see.. But I will try it out somehow. I have some idea to it already. Then there can be those who have made their vows, and can still communicate. You could consider this [Telepathy, Hin] (as they only know hin and common, with a few exceptions) as a language of own, like Druidic. Only awaible to Ghostwise, like Druidic only to druids. So you could just put the [Telepathy <language>] and talk to your clan, or someone who knows telepathy and the language you speak. This takes us to that, that in my clan there will be (I think) few with vow of silence, so we have someone who speak for other.
Means =
Vow of Silence GW: [Telepathy, Hin] I do not take it as good idea. I don't like the elf. Gives me a strange feeling.
Ghostwise: *speaks to the elf* I'm sorry, but some of our clan members would be in unease with you around, so we rather not have you to our group.
Elf: *wonders why he didn't hear any speak, nor did the hins whisper. Strange* Okay. I do not mind that. *bows* Farewell. *leaves*

Ghostwise use "Ghost Sign" on Amia in replacement of the telepathy. So it's covered. Think of it as kinda like Drow Sign, as in, it's their own private sign language.

There isn't. It's made up here on Amia so it can replace telepathy. It doesn't exist on FR though.
