Take a good look at the rules in the side bar. I added one that I bet almost everybody either knows about or could assume to be a no-no.

Quote:
# Do not babysit players outside your party level range. You either hunt with a party, or solo, but you are not to walk behind lower level players helping/healing/buffing them.

I guess this is clear enough?

Can you follow without interfering? Sometimes my character would like to merely observe. Of course, with no buffing, healing, or anything, just following, in the shadows.

I would say common sense applies. Since you can't run ahead of a hunting party, you sometimes need to follow them until they clear the spawns to get where you are going.

I guess so. Make sure you stay behind the person so you don't trigger spawns.

I remember someone told me once that I couldn't, but now that I can, I can observe! Yay :)

I was asking if it was okay to follow for RP reasons, just watching the group, without interfering. I've heard yes, and I've heard no.

RP reasons are irrelevant here. I can find RP reasons to break about half the server rules in a minute. I guess you can follow somebody if you stay behind and do not buff/heal/save the lowbies(s). I personally don't care if you do it because your IC god tells you so, or because it's your little sister and you are explaining her how the game works.

heh. best SD time of my life. following a lower lvl group into kobold caves in stealth, when I noticed one was a helmite and the other was a banite. I asked them each in tells how obvious their deity choices were, and they both had plenty of symbols. They then noticed that on each other and began to argue, soon ending in helmite and friend vs. banite. I then came out of the corner where I was hiding and offered to help the banite simply to even the playing fields, but he ended up killing them both so I didn't to interfere in the PvP.

this kind of situation is ok, right? if not, its fun to watch unfold anyways... <.< >.>

If you have someone following, buffing, healing, raising, doing all the work for them, its unfair. Your character should earn most of what they have, gold, items, levels, etc. Its not much of a challenge when a level five has a level thirty doing everything for them basically. Besides, ICly, your character SHOULDN'T gain any XP from that, what are they learning? How are their skills progressing if they are not doing things themselves, and figuring out how to defeat certain enemies and such?

I'm guessing the point is to keep players from dragging thyeir high level friends with them so they can level in safet. Just a guess, of course. <.<

It's self explanatory, higher leve players spawn higher level creatures, or a larger CR. Also, higher level characters have access to FW at +1D12 fire damage, and hastes (which put up ac by 3 i think).

Babysitting is helping little babies, grow faster. Which in the eyes of Amia, is a form of twinking, and is frowned upon. Tsk, tsk, Bad babysitter!

Haste is +4. But yeah, it's to stop people getting buffed and spelled up to go hunting. It's more or less the same as twinking.

Is it ok to buff a friend before he goes out hunting, if you're not following at all?

There's no IC point in this rule, btw, so I suggest nobody tries to find one. It's in the same rule league with the twinking/muling rules: everybody starts a new character at the same level of power, items and influence, nobody gets perks because they got epic friends.

And it doesn't get more complicated than that.

There was a time that I would have disagreed with this rule, but there were too many abuses that have been made to leave it as it was. EG, People with multiple computers/keys doing this.

Port-to-leader was a convenience that I enjoyed a lot, especially post-resets to get to where you were previously, but I am glad to see it go, because it enabled an extraordinary amount of metagaming. In a way, 'babysitting' is similar to porting to leader to raise a party you weren't with and have no IC knowledge of what happened to them.

before this rule became offical, i was told by a DM the grounds for being OKAY with following other PCs. Basicly, i cant help them at all against spawns, if they all die, they have to respawn, or log, or whatever, i cant raise them.

Generally i followed around other Lolth loving drow, to keep them from getting owned by high lvls PCs that were out lolth lovin drow huntin. Or simply becouse there was no RP goin on, so its kinda fun to follow a group around and watch them.

I thought this rule was in place a while back. That is, its fine to have a level 3 and a level 30 in the same party but that they MUST be in party if travelling together (that is, no XP is generated). For instance, my new squire (level 9) was travelling with her commander (a level 30) on patrol and earnt not a single XP because we followed what we thought, were the rules.

I assume the rule hasn't changed then? Or is this now saying, such IC travelling together is also no longer allowed?

This rule has been in place for years. Not every single thing people shouldn't do is listed, however. Like the rules-page says, not everything is listed or detailed on the website or anywhere else. A lot of how you should behave on Amia is based on common sense and fairness, and if that fails, on DM given policies.

We started from no list, and the practices have been added if there's been a lot of misunderstandings of what should be done and what shouldn't be done.

So basically you can follow to your heart's content so long as you provide no assistance in any form?

Author:  FA_Frey_XC [ Sun, Jan 25 2009, 5:49 AM ]
Post subject:

Correct.

You can follow, but cannot buff, cannot aid, cannot help, cannot do anything to assist them, because OOCly you know what's up.

It's pretty simple...really. You know it's cheating, your letting your uber30 lighten up the offense, then you pick em off with your crossbow +1 and get the XPzorz.

Jesh, things would be so much simpler if people just did what they knew was right, not try to come up with excuses to do what they know is wrong.

The Shadowflame members usually hold an annual hunt, Which is purely for RP reasons, Normally we would start with meeting all in an Inn and then go from there, Will this be stopped now this rule is implemented? Most usually are within Epic level range but a few last time including myself were npt.

And if this means anything we were all rewarded a DC after leaving the hunting grounds.

This shouldn't be a problem assuming all of you were in the same party. The rule only applies when the epic level character is out of the party (and thus isn't included when it comes to calculating the ECL of the group). If it's all an IC thing then it doesn't matter if you get 1 experience per kill right?

As long as you all party up, there isn't a problem. This is just about giving lowbies an easy XP ride, from my understanding.

As far as I have understood the rule you can be in party of any range until you hearts content if thats want you want wether it be IC or not.

As I understood the rule its just as the topic suggests, to stop higher ups from babysitting the newbies to an ureasonable degree so as they can obtain easy xp.

This rule isn't being 'implemented' - it's been around for ages. So long as you are in the same party there is no problem. It's just having a high level assisting a bunch of low levels while not in the party (so the still get xp) that is the problem.

Jeez, this isn't a hard rule to come to terms with. It's been around for ages and you all should know exactly what it means.

If you're following a lower level player, you are allowed to buff them, help them, ressurect them and overall lighten their levelling load.

Is that really that hard to understand?

I understand the rule. I just think that it could have something like training with a superior or family members. Like a father teaching the daughter to use the bow and such. They could get no xp, but in the end if the father is satisfied with the skills the daughter acquired in such training he could give her a certain number of xp. :D

there should have conditions such as maybe a DM online to approve the request, the xp could be between 5 and 1000, being 1000 the amount giving at the last training section.

I dont know, just babbling. But, I played somewhere once that we had this system. You used a widget that made a blue light showing trainee section and all the involved and in the end, you set your satisfaction and give the xp.

Correction: you cannot follow to your heart's desire, unless you are in a party with the lowbies. Even if you didn't buff them or help them. This is because there's no way to check if you're helping them or not (except to witness it happen), and you will be considered guilty of helping the lowbies automatically if caught following them without being in a party.

Sorry, but that's how it is. Party up and you're good.

The best thing you can do to help a friend is buff them before they go out hunting, then wish them luck. They should be more than capable of looking after themselves after that.
