Anybody else like it when DM's remind us to use the wands? I find it helps. I often forget all about it, but some DM with utter forth yellow text & remind us to use it & then I do. :D

Kudos to those DMs. I find it's also nice when the DM actually appears next to you and reminds you ... they have a sense of humour ^^

I do try to remember using it, but I always try and remember to check that a DM is actually on before using it :D

It usually doesn't occur to me to check if a DM is on until after I use it... >.>;;

When you RP a lot
What is the name of my rod?

It lasts over 2 resets so it doesn't matter if they're on or not if I remember rightly.

Correct?

Post subject:

Well, I am not so sure about those two resets myself, tbh.

I don't use the wands personally. I prefer to leave my RP to chance, it makes getting a DC all the better because a DM's stumbled upon you rather then shooting a vicious grapple hook at them and dragging them to you.

Actually, this is how I go most of mine - I think I've gotten half a dozen with the wand compared to all the others without it

Is this really how the DMs see the DC wand? I've always thought of it as just a "Come look!" kind of thing, where the DM is not the slightest bit obligated to give you a DC, but might if you're good enough.

That is how it works.

With that said, I can see what Galenson means. Using the DC wand and then getting a DC just doesn't feel as good to me, as getting one randomly does, I have to admit. Though, I don't turn any DCs down.

That's how it is used nowadays, or what it evolved into. It's not what the wand wand was made for, though.

I'm of the camp that uses it the old fashioned way: if I see it being used, I expect that the RP is stellar enough for the players to think it deserves a DC.

Wasn't there already a thread that discussed DC wands ...

Author:  aurelius311 [ Mon, Jan 26 2009, 12:46 PM ]
Post subject:

Yes there was a thread.

Also, sometimes when I use it it is for something utterly brilliant IC, that has already come and gone, with no hope of the DM seeing it. I was to understand, from the old thread and some conversatinos with DMs, that it adds their name to a list. My hope being that maybe next time that player is on, the DM will check them out, and see something as great as what i saw, and DC them.

I would rather have just seen the great and stellar RP right there, tbh.

yeah, but if its already over, what can i do about it, you know? so its just "well, they missed this, but maybe next time".

I like to use my DM wand on someone who impresses me with maybe a nice lore conversation, or a interesting character concept, who plays it well and rarely break their character, or someone helpful and mindful, even when being nasty about it, for most drow cases. That's what brings me to use it.

"Circle Wanding" I find is little more then a poke of the DM, which isn't needed in most cases, but I see it happen from time to time, where everyone wands the person to their left, when there are like 6 people standing about Rping. DMs have the luxiory of seeing groups of people hanging out in an area, and if they're hanging out in a RP area, the greater the chance they'll stop by to see what the hoopla is all about.

The DMS are good at finding big groups of people, that, or everyone else is using their DC wands and I just don't bother to check the combat logs. I think the first one is probably the right one however, as I rarely see someone aiming their hands at someone, firing the invisible DM laser at someone :)

We are rather good at finding people. Protip: DMs are drawn like bees to honey to less popular areas with two or more players present. The chances are that something interesting is happening, especially if it's not a hunting area.

The catch is, that those areas are popular amongst people who want to cyber in a quiet place, thinking nobody will pass by. Oh, how wrong they are.

No no, it recommends them, but we see the message as, say

"Alanna Molov's player has recommended Wot'shisname for good roleplay!"
