A lot of things give you DR 5/+3 or what not. PvP this s worthless. From like level 15 on or so I think everyone has +4 weapons. Im curious if for PvM anything is worthwhile? I assume anything epic uses +4 weapons or creature weapons that are considered +4?

Damage Reduction X/+5 means your opponent has to invest in a +5 Weapon. Depending on your foe, that can actually be an issue.
PvM Wise; About 50% of the Epic Spawns have +5 Claws or +5 Weapons. All Epic Bosses do.

....but that isn't to say DR is worthless.
5/- means it always works no matter how magical the claws. that can be provided by a lesser mythal right there. ^_^
and about stacking... I heard that the items don't stack unless it is of different types. example:
5/- peircing resist,
5/- all physical,
10/- slashing
would have total...
10/- peircing
15/- slashing
5/- bludgeon
do I have this correct?

Damage Reduction stacks with Damage Resistance stacks with Damage Immunity. If you get hit by slashing, it will add the highest Damage Reduction that can stop the hit with the highest Damage Resistance that can stop the hit with the highest Damage Immunity that can stop the hit.
For example, you get hit for 60 points of bludgeoning.
If you have 6/- Damage Reduction
10/- Damage Resistance
5/- Damage Resistance
10% Damage immunity
You take 60 - 10%*60 - 10 (the highest Damage Resistance) - 6 = 38 damage.

damage resistance are able to ignore damage of a specific type up to a set amount. damage resistance cannot be overcome by weapons with a higher enhancement bonus like damage reduction can.

what is the difference between resistance and reduction?
Damage resistance is generally of the form #/- (Type)
e.g. 5/- Slashing.
This means you will take five less damage from all slashing attacks.
Damage reduction is #/(Type that beats)
e.g. 5/+4
This means that you will take five less damage from physical attacks , unless the weapon that dealt it is +4 or higher.
One can get damage reduction that is #/-
e.g. 3/-
This means that all physical damage is reduced by three points, regardless of what weapon it came from.

Remember though that as of 1.69, when you get hit by a weapon which does more than one damage type, the one that will be resisted less is the one that gets used.

Like fire giants and up are all +5 so things like preomonition are worthless against them then?

Don't know about their weapons, but anything +5 or higher does indeed render Premonition useless.

Yeah thought so, So unless you have something with universal coverage, like the dwd levels or items that give x/- Its about worthless in the long run.

Giants have +4. Or maybe... +3 (never really tested it)
Anyways I think the monsters' enchantment follow their loot bin orders. Monsters that drop +4 items have +4 weapons, etc.

over all I think AC is much better then geting a small amount of DR, unless that amount of DR would make you take zero get the AC so you do take zero.

Yes. More Armour Class means less chance for someone to inflict a critical hit, which in many cases does enough damage to exceed your damage resistance/reduction.

However the unholy 20 hits regarless of armorclass. so say 45AC with 10dr is more effective then 46ACwith 0DR ?

You'll live longer, and if you're a caster, you're less likely to have the spell disrupted.
FYI, damage IMMUNITY items stack.
AKA Five items of 10% immunity stack to 50% immunity, IIRC.

That's a question of relative abundance - AC follows a nice Arctan form if you feel like graphing it - when your AC is ridiculously low, adding one to it does nothing, since they still hit you on anything but a one. When your AC is really high, adding one to it does nothing, since they still only hit you wt a natural 20.
But in the middle range, increasing AC can lower your chances of being hit a lot.
An outrageous example is one I tested on a friend - I had decent DR and low AC, he had no DR and high AC. I spawned a few hundred rats - he died, I didn't.
But when it came time to fight the dragons, well, let's just say I'm not hunting dragons

Just checked NWN wiki - you're right (I hadn't realised that it does)

If your stoneskin takes damage, they have +4 or less magic. If it goes stright through, it is +5 or better. As far as I know, a stoneskin prohibits every attack from spawned critters that aren't bosses, so if you have x/+5 damage reduction it will protect you in almost all areas in PvM. Getting +5 weapons aren't that easy either so you should have a good chance in PvP too if you're below say level 25. Only pure high level wiz/sorc/bard/cleric/paladin/ranger have spells that give +5 enchantment. (level 15-21) and few players make pure characters.

15 is neither pure nor high level. There's not much point having most caster classes unless you intend to grab fifteen or more levels (excepted for those going RDD or AA).
Edit: I'm not really counting Pally / Rangers as 'caster classes' more as 'classes that can cast'.

I always find it awesome at low levels actually better than high levels, like at level 9 there re two pieces of equipment which pretty make you immune to beetles, been using them for years now
