Ok, just hoping to get a final ruling from the DM's about this... Can you RP regeneration as bringing your character back from the dead? I've had a few people do this, and admittedly done it myself once. Just wanted to know if its legit or not? By NWN mechanics regenration resembles D+D fast healing in that it only works if your not dead. I think everyone would benefit from some clarification on this one... |

Pretty sure that regenerating stops after the life is KAPUT. |

Yep, i know im not a DM, but your body regenrates by itself, regen gear would just make that happen faster, when you're dead your body deteriorates and no longer heals, so I'd say regen gear is exactly the same. And even if it could still regenerate your body after death, that's still a massive difference from bringing you back to life. |

Yeah, when you're dead, you don't heal. You need a raise to come back and start healing again. |

Regeneration does not work when you're dead. |

Actually regeneration and healing spells will work when you're dead. Except you'll just have a prettier, still-dead corpse. |

Source? The PHB says that it has no effect. |

I'd imagine that even though their body is preserved well by the Regeneration, that they would still be weak when raised in an IC sense? (Assuming it's just a raise spell and not a True Ressurection) |

The PHB says that it has no effect. http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/regenerate.htm you're right there (but then again, if its a DM declaration, hes right), however raise dead is only 2k so i wouldn't expect a problem raising someone or curing someone's lost arms or severed body parts. meh, someone may as well start a regen business with all the limbless people running about. i smell like 1.3k or something per limb restored lol |

See we play in a world where death doesnt always make sence, i mean after you die you have the option of getting back up EVERY SINGLE TIME. Some players prefer to say that instead of dieing every time sometimes they get knocked out, mechanicly they still need a raise but you can always rp the scroll (or spell if your ACTUALY a cleric with it ready) as a slap on the face or pouring waer over them or something, this is fine IMO ive done it myself quite a few times. Now if your only knocked out and not dead rp wise then whats the problem with regening while your out cold? I have no issues with this kinda rp as being dead every time does get a bit old especialy for people like me who die a lot. // Additional.. if you die in PvP your DEAD unless the person who killed you makes it clear that they used Subdual damage then you may apply the above to the situation as you will be knocked out not dead. but you will be Pron and subject to a coup de grace |

If your dead regen wont bring you back IMO, but then again.. look at how trolls are ment to work, you can pulpify them and they will come back as long as you dont do it with fire or acid, something i wish the Amia trolls did, ahh well. |

Actually, it was more of a joke than anything. Technical-wise, no, healing and regeneration don't affect dead bodies. If you're ICly KOed, but OOCly dead, you might wake up a few minutes quicker, but if you're ICly dead, regen will not bring you back if you're at or below -10 hp. The only creature I know of that regens when dead and then revives is the Tarrasque. |

Trolls, unless seared with fire or acid. Hydras, as well. Remember, in PnP, there's two forms of "regeneration". There's "Fast Healing", which is the classic regeneration in NWN that you think of, and the only form represented in NWN. "Regeneration" actually turns all damage against you into Subdual damage. Creatures with regeneration always have some barrier that you can overcome to do "Real" damage to them. This is typically fire or acid damage, or for some extraordinary creatures, a Good aligned or Evil aligned weapon. Materials can also come into play to a small degree but those are normally for damagr reduction. If you have "Real Regeneration", which no PC does, then unless you're killed by that "Thing That Kills You", if you're left alone, you'll get back up. If you have Fast Healing (which is what PCs have) then it stops working when you're dead. ~~ Ron will probably correct me on that. |

Is death when the respawn screen pops up or when your character's health drops below 1? |

When the repsanw screen pops up. 0 to -9 is "incapacitated". |

Okay, another question. Raise dead isn't supposed to work if the body's in pieces. I think it might say on Amia rules somewhere that only resurection will bring back someone who's been decapitated. Does this mean if you RP hacking someone's head off they can't be raised by a scroll? That would be very hard to police but I'm wondering if there's a ruling here... |

OOC agreement between the parties involved, I think. |

From our official Rules & Lore section: Quote: Raise Dead: The subject must be in one piece. You cannot raise some who has been beheaded, for example. Missing pieces will be missing after the spell is cast, though any mortal wounds are sealed. Those that have been undead or died of old age can't be raised.
Resurrection: The condition of the subject does not matter; if you have one proper piece of a person, you can raise him as long as the piece was intact at the moment of death. The subject's body regenerates around the piece being resurrected. Any other pieces, such as the severed head of the victim that someone might be keeping as a trophy, crumble to dust at the moment of resurrection. You can raise those who have been undead and then destroyed, but you can't raise anyone who's died of old age. |

~~ Ron will probably correct me on that. I'm reasonably certain that you're correct, Tormak. I never had to worry about it, though, because I never let PCs have regen. |

Cobbit, the problem I see: You cannot RP hacking someone's head off just like that. You can only RP _trying_ to hack someones head off. Beyond that you need approval from the "beheadee" or mechanics (which don't exist in NWN) or an overseeing DM. Or am I wrong? I admit, this is off topic and we already had a long thread on this a few weeks ago. I just don't remember what came out of it ... Regards, Ts |

Yes, I would say to get the OOC permission of the victim before you break out the hacksaw on their dead deceased corpse. |

I think the main reason, as even I once or twiced have used that "regenerates" design is because the "Out" after being PvP killed was...well... not there. Which it's supposed to be. So here I had gotten the OOC raise. Waited for the killer to wander well off. Nothing or anyone was coming by after a while. So... "that little ring Wisp got from her friend began working furiously to heal the wounds" [regen +1 Jenova] became my only means to get going again. Lame. Tacky. Not supposed to work. But when you've been killed and you're not getting your out; should you just instead emote *And their Deity saved them!* which feels just as tacky? It's a valid question, and I think the answer is that you see the regeneration of the dead when the "out" is missing. Unfortunately I can't find where in the Rules I've seen about the "out" so now I'm wondering if it's something I heard elsewhere. Which, if it's not in Amia, would invalidate my point. The Cobbit wrote: Yes, I would say to get the OOC permission of the victim before you break out the hacksaw on their dead deceased corpse.
And Please do get OOC permission first. The more fair-warnings there are, the less trouble you'll get |

The only time I'll use the "decapitates XXXX's corpse" trick is in PvP, and only when there's some git in sanctuary or HIPS going around rezzing everyone I just put down, so the PvP never comes to a conclusion. If you kill someone with a dev crit, I see nothing wrong with RPly chopping their head off or smooshing it into bloody chunks with the blow. As for non-devvers, I'd say ask nicely for a quick pause in combat while you roll a str check. A high result could represent an effective decapitation. Keep in mind, traditionally we've had it so the killer determines weather the victim is KOed or actually dead. I'd extend that to determining weather you can or can't decapitate a corpse. |

The difference is, you can RP yourself as not having been dead and the regeneration saved yo. That's perfectly acceptable. What we're talking about (or, rather, the OP was) is RPing that you are dead and the regen restores you to life which doesn't work. The more fair-warnings there are, the less trouble you'll get :) Expecially since you may be prompting people to ignore the fact Raise Dead shouldn't be restoring lost body parts; you don't agree first, I think they have that right- personally. You need permission to mutilate someone's body as far as I am aware. |

Heh, for the part about the "out", I remember a shout from one DM when I was still just a player. It was in reference to an IC reasoning for respawning, along the lines of "Ted the Shy Cleric would raise you, but as soon as you came to, he would run away." |

Yea, well I hate it when killer says "I cutted your limbs off so you can't run away." or something like that. I still usualy go with it, even tho it irritates. (-usualy- someone has grown my legs/arms back But more than that irritates me, is when you go like: "Okay I killed you now. You are dead, not just KO:ed." and the other person just takes a hike. Not happening often, as I usualy prefer not to kill PCs (exept my own |
