Something i dont understand about the job things is that on certain jobs it says that you can create knowledge by dissecting a plant or body etc. So i observed a plant and got a book and i also dissected a plant and got a book. But they contain no information...just another silly crafter item. I tried to use the book with the research table but it didnt work...put some herbs and items with it...nothing. So whats the point of these books exactly if they contain no knowledge, even though it says so in the job section?

Primarily the item itself is RP related and can be sold to a book merchant.

In RP itself, such a book may be more conducive to a DM releasing information about a specific related aspect of their plot. That is ultimately their discretion of course.

It's ultimately less valuable than most reagents. I think there needs to be some recipes that require "information" from academic jobs to produce the end product.

Err, so the books are basically just another reagent for some item?

Nopes, they symbolise the transformation of knowledge into money.

Invisible knowledge. Dur. It's meant to symbolize the knowledge you learn without forcing you to read it. Plus, at the rate that those books can be dug up, that'd make for some scary file sizes if players decided to keep them for any amount of time. I think.

If the information was in there, it could lead to several problems:
i) You would be limited even further on 'research' topics (instead you can RP what you know so long as it fits in)
ii) Disco would actually have to know all this
iii) The length would be gigantic unless it weren't really worth writing a book on, increasing file sizes.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. O.O

If you'd really like to read and learn something new every time you make book, just do a google search and learn about the given subject on your own. Just a thought.

I can assure you I have a PC that is interesting in aquire knowlegde books produced by the job system. I've just not been asserting it yet.

Even if they are blank, the representation of having the resource is for RP element. Or that you can get a scribe to add a bio in. Maybe you've got code-books for the rules of Fight Club.
Scribe adds:
"1) Don't talk about Fight Club.
2) Don't talk about Fight Club."

:)

Well... those books actually could get a description. If somebody volunteers to make 'em. Look at this list:

http://www.amiaworld.net/about/ds_j_resources.php

If there's a description in here it will be put on the resources when you create them.

Send me a PM if you want to help with filing out the empty ones, or post descriptions here if you just have one or two of them (easier for me to paste a few in than to make a filler account for you).

One thing: Keep the descriptions short. A small paragraph should be enough.
