..is there a reason why the holy city dosnt have a forum of its own, there are people there who are not part of the knightly orders....i just thought it was odd thats all

Not all cities have forums of their own. They are added/removed as activity increases/decreases. Kohlingen has traditionally been The Second Most Dead City on Amia, minus the factions and the odd PC here and there. Hardly enough to warrant a forum of its own.

But if things are about to change, we'll see about the forums.

Honestly, since the server split, Kohlingen has been much, much busier if only because of the forge. Since the job system was added, it's been even busier because of the many trainers there.

I think most people who have been through there lately can attest to seeing people around lately. I'd support adding a forum for them that's public.

I have the feeling it would have a 1:1 relationship with the Northern Alliance forum.

I always meet people around there when going to visit, I support it as well.

Also, it's always nice to have a forum for your home location for making announcements or small around the location IC stories.

I for one choose my character considering which location has or has not a forum of its own. I dislike posting in PC Stories where nobody else ever reads such things.

It's a repercussion from my days of forum RP. >.>

Score for Disco...but that it is a faction forum.

Make it Koh, Wharftown and Uhm forum.

That way you have all four in one thread and cover the empty spots.

Author:  Nekhy [ Sat, Sep 12 2009, 16:05 PM ]
Post subject:

All the folks I've seen in Kohlingen lately have had tags in their names, so I am not sure how much it is used by non-faction members. Doesn't seem to be a good reason to add a public forum for them, given they already have a factional forum and what public things they need to post can be posted on the IC boards.

Wharftown and Uhm most certainly don't have enough activity to warrant a forum.

I'm admittedly quite strict about which towns get forums and which don't. But that's because the threshold for removing them is even higher than for adding them, and the space should be reserved for forums that are truly needed and not for forums that might be fun additions.

Get the RP running first, and we'll see. I mean, RP involving folks not involved with the Kohl factions.

I just started playing my paladin again and i noticed that there has been a boost in population around Kohl , and also been discussing about some changes with the defenders and the triadic knights and a new group under Bahamut its more then just a thought and actions will start taking place soon about it , so perhaps a Kohl forum spot would be usefull?

Might be a decent idea to just rename the Kohlingen Faction forum to Kohlingen General and open it up.

Author:  purple lizard [ Sat, Sep 12 2009, 16:36 PM ]
Post subject:

Thats kind of the idea , were going to try and restore the defender name by starting a new faction which will fall under the three defender groups
the new one is called Platinum Knights which is a faction for players under Bahamut ...This and the two older ones Triadic knights and Defenders are all going under one big group in name of Kohl , so it all might be changed to Knights of Kohl...Get what im saying? :)

Kohlingen factions has got a common faction forum with the Sallies now so there is no separated Kohlingen forum, the new name is Northern Alliance.
...and it will remain a faction forum.

Please don't name yourselves the Knights of Kohlingen. Anything but that.

Commanders Of Castle Kohlingon works.

(I approve the acronym as descriptive and relevant, those of Kohl being such in general :P )

Maybe if Khol looked like a City of Paladins/Holiness instead of some backwoods pitstop it'd get more visitors... just sayin'.

And yes, before anyone suggets it, I already have a char and some others ICly working to change that.

Hey! Wiltun is the only back woods pit stop 'round these here parts, boy.

Author:  Dark Immolation [ Sun, Sep 13 2009, 3:11 AM ]
Post subject:

Not really. Wiltun doesn't count. It's a fort. And it looks like a fort. That's... expected.

Kholingen, the City of Paladins, however does not a Holy City make. Look at historical Holy Cities or capitols. Jerusalem. Vatican City. Mecca. Versailles. Washington DC. They all have some sort of structure around the temples/state buildings.

Our little Zion however looks like someone just cut and pasted the parts in, to me at least, and nothing seems in the least bit "bright". This could easily be fixed by moving things around a bit in Khol, making it a tad bit bigger, maybe show where the "nobles" live, gardens and estates and whatnot.

Hell, you change the ambient color to a light yellow, and everything looks a bit "holy-like".

Anyway, if devs need something to go off of, look at the city of Dipan from Valkyrie Profile or Fortuna from DMC4. And I understand this is only slightly tied in to the matter of Khol and its forums, but its my two bits *shrug*.

You mean, like it looked like before? An empty city with one oversized temple and an Inn? I fancy that Kohlingen actually looks like a place where people live in now, instead of an idealised Swiss town.

You know that holy cities are above all cities, right? Washington may have a few nice monuments, but it's also a rather notoriously criminal city. The Vatican lies in the center of Rome, not the cleanest of cities either. Jeruzalem.. well, let's not get into that one. Versailles, well that's a palace with suburbs around it. Never meant to be a city.

Kohlingen is a young town, and never was particularly rich either.

I agree to an extent, though: it could use some minor touches to make it more appealing. The lighting/color is something that might help. (It's really disturbingly dark and barren at night time, which is every 20 minutes.) The basic layout is fine, however. I doubt that would make it any more popular as an RP hub, just an aesthetic preference of mine.

Author:  Galenson [ Sun, Sep 13 2009, 8:48 AM ]

It used to be much darker.

Kohlingen needs a slight size reduction. Its a little too spaced out for its own good.

I guess I can add some lightposts around the main boulevard and temple?

Author:  IronAngel [ Sun, Sep 13 2009, 8:53 AM ]
Post subject:

Lightposts would probably be great.

I rather like the design of the town. It doesn't have a single obvious hub that everyone would gather in, it seems more like a real town. (What is Cordor Square suppoed to be, anyhow?) It's become fairly active of late, too, so I doubt there's any problem with it area itself. (I've been there four times with Joon, and always ended up in RP.)

Cordor Square is Cordor Square. An attractive plaza out front of the Waukeen Temple that serves as a crossroads for the city... oh, and while you're here you should check out our great restaurants nearby. And get a room at Griff's. Stop into West and Center for sopping.... sure you don't want to live here?

I view Cordor Square as a tourist trap.

Point well made.

Although naked adventurers chasing each other around can be a deterrent. :)

I view it as something for the nobility to see and not have to bother going to Cordor South since everywhere in Cordor is like that.

Tourist trap is pretty good description, IMO. That also explains the occasional streakers and every other strange and annoying thing that happens there.

As one of hte most active Kohlingen rper I don't think that Kohlingen needs a separated city forum....and no we won't open the faction forum.

Can we lock this thread?

No. The Forum Code of Conduct has not been breached. No reason to hamper discussion, whether it's deemed as useful or not.

We can't open up the faction forum for risk of metagaming. Plain, simple, I know Lutra's said this twice now it won't be done.

I also have to consider that I've only beein in Kohligen perhaps 10 times, tops, where RP was occuring with my PC. I've passed through it maybe only 3 times for curiosity sake of the shops. In the span of 1-year of playing.

Unless we start forcing lots of PC to start in Kohl and not Cordor, it needs a lot more Player-made incentive to be there. It has everything Cordor does but with more laws on how is allowed in. (IE: Almost everyone who hangs in Cordor Square can't even go in Kohl by racial type- Opinion.)

Design wise, it would make more sense to have the Keep in the centre, surrounded by a town going around it in a circle...

Buuut, that's probably too much extra work.
