Sorry to all the druids and druid haters out there, Amaya is currently "visiting her home islands of Moonshae." I've recently upgraded to Windows 7 and can't get NWN working. I've also been addicted to Mass Effect 2 to be too bothered to try to fix the issue.
Does any one else have or had a similar issue with 7 and NWN where you can install and patch, but as soon as it launches and comes up with the Neverwinter eye logo, it soon crashes with little explanation? I've tried a variety of things to try to fix it, from getting updated graphics drivers, to having only NWN running, to compatability mode.
The most peculiar thing that happened is that I was accidentally given the 32-bit version from my school's store and got NWN working then. It was actually when I was getting the graphics drivers when I noticed it because the 64 bit drivers wouldn't install. When I got the 64 bit 7, NWN wouldn't work.
I've tried googling an answer, but nothing would work. This is my last attempt before I slap XP back onto my system.
My rig:
Graphics: Radeon 4850
CPU: E8400
2 Gigs RAM

Try:
-Downloading the Critical Rebuild & Installing it
-Disable Movies
-Run from the exe as an administrator

I have the rebuild and run as admin, but not the movies. I'll try that when I get home from work. Is there a way to disable themfrom outside the game?I can't get past the splash.
Regardless if it works, that's for the help!

Regardless if it works, that's for the help!
Open up your NWN.ini file in the nwn install directory. You can shift+right click it to 'Open with', choose default program: notepad.
Under the following headings make these changes to the following headings, they are case sensitive. If the lines are not present add them. As I said, case sensitive. Spaces need be present as well.
[Sound Options]

3D Provider=Miles Fast 2D Positional Audio
Number 2D Voices=16

Still a no go.
Luckily, I reserved a partition on my hard drive for other stuff, so I think I'll slap XP on that one and dual boot onto to that for all my games that doesn't like to work on any newer OS.
Heh, maybe I'll just slap Win 2000 onto it and ensure I'll never have an issue with older games! I miss playing MechWarrior...

Blarg.
A complete no-go. I ended up installing XP on my other partition becuase I couldn't find my 2000 or 98 CDs. No MechWarrior for me... Hmph...
Oh! And apparently, Vista and 7 don't like to be installed with earlier versions of windows and put up a grand fight while refusing to let me do it. If there is anyone out there who is trying to dualboot 7 and/or Vista alongside XP, lemme know! I'll help them out.

Yeah, I looked all over. Between Microsoft, Google and BioWare, nothing helped. I just don't understand why it worked under 32 bit and not 64...
I don't mind doing this anyway. I was planning on having an older version of Windows so I could play the older games.
Slightly off topic: The search feature on these forums is either a complete fail or I am. I can't find anything do to with gaining access to certain parts of the forums, like the grove. Do I need to join something in game to get in there or ask a DM or something...?

There should be a topic in R&L about faction forums, I think. But yeah, some forums require permission. That is gained via RP and becoming a member of the said faction. City forums are open to all.

Now I'm getting pissed off! It won't run under XP. I'm starting to think it's a hardware issue, but...why work only under 7 32 bit???
I'm trying to search for what to do, but with a crash right after the splash screen, there's little I can go off of...

This guy is having almost the exact same issue as me and within a similar timeframe. I'll be testing this now.
EDIT2:
FRAK YES! I got NWN working on XP. I've heard of getting the most up to date drivers before, but never rolling back. Heh...
I wonder if that day (1 day!!) of me running 32 bit was the day before the new drivers. Hmmm... I'll have a go at trying NWN on 7 again later tonight.
