Post subject:  Please don't ...

I ran into this today and felt that I should post a reminder for all... just to be sure that everyone knew...

Today while fighting the frost giant king in front of the door to the fire giants with another player, some one ran past us with HiPS on. This person (no name since I do not know who it was) then proceeded into the fire giant lair, and set off every spawn while still in HiPS. They walked past all of the spawns straight to the Royals so they could, I presume, take a shot at getting an epic loot drop.

Here is a bit from the rules that I would point out to anyone who considers doing this:
Quote:
Do not run ahead of another group, when hunting. Do not collect treasure from corpses that your party did not kill.

Also, while I am not directly sure on the exact rules, I do think it is in rather poor taste, and pretty much an exploit of HiPS to do what this person did skipping by all the spawns and going straight to the boss to try for an epic loot drop.

If you were this person, or perhaps are like this person, or even considering doing what this person did... please remember that we are all here to have fun, and doing things like that takes away from another players "funnability" here. So please don't do that. Rather party up with the other players and have a better time with some good role playing.

Cheers all.

While I agree with the don't go past part, how do you know it was someone in HIPS? Could be one of those bossrunners running through before you entered the spires.

Well I know that it was someone passing us OOC becasue as I was fighting the frost giant king they walked past the two obelisk things and set off the lightening bolts, which only happens when a player passes between them. Also we wre outside the spire for some time before (5-10 minutes) talking with other players before we started and the other spawns would have been set off if they passed earlier....

Now so far as the HiPS.. I had True sight cast, Clairaudience/Clairvoyance and I have a very good spot... the only people I can not yet seem to spot (because I can only max out at a spot which is still under 90) are the Dancers wtih HiPS. That being said, I admit I do not have direct proof it was HiPS, but that is the logical guess... The only other thing it may could have been was a Wiz/Sorc with Improved invisability and Greater Sanctuary... and my thoughts are the same with that combo too... It is just poor behavior to step on another's "funnability" like that. And incase you may be wondering- the other player with me also had a very good spot and True Sight cast as well... As close as we were more often then not if it was a caster with GS and Improved Invisabilty up when they got that close to us (in order to walk through the door) the game mechanics allow you to see them OOC'ly, you know that funny "bump into them and they appear for a second" thing.

Hope that answer's your question.

Again, Cheers :)

With TS you see someone with GS/Invis if they have not set you hostile.

It's also very crappy to port in and ignore someone who is resting next to the crystal, only to run by them and start hunting where they were about to.

If you don't think that's passing, you need a hard nutpunch.

While boss-running is cheap, it's not directly against the rules (unless something changed recently). Just whizzing past someone is against the rules and should be reported to a DM through screenie or, in a case such as this, given a quick tell if one is online.

Could have just been someone stealthing. Not necessarily HiPS. That's beside the point.

Don't run ahead of someone who is hunting in an area without at least asking OOCly if they plan on continuing down that way.

This is all true, and a good reminder. There is no reason to pass a party, and If I catch anyone hipsing past hunting parties for bosses it's going to be ugly.

Also, consider that occasionally bosses do not spawn. There is always a chance your foe will be "out to lunch."

That being said, I think this was well discussed and explained in a recent topic. So I'm going to go ahead and lock this.
