This is a thread created for the sole purpose of letting people waive the protections provided under the Official Rules as posted here, on a character-by-character or player-as-a-whole basis. Any protections waived are only waived as they apply to your characters, if they are in fact waived at all (the staff as always has complete authority to declare "I don't think so, Tim" on a waiver). Example: You waive the protection of having a warning before PvP. This does NOT mean that you can attack other people without a warning- it means they may attack YOU without warning. Example 2: You waive the protection of no 'graphic torture' roleplay. You do not get to graphically torture someone, they now have the opportunity to graphically torture your character with the consent of other parties present who have not waived this protection. It is up to the staff whether these waivers are: - Valid - Permanent or Temporary - Retractable in lone incidents (one-time revocation of waiver) - Retractable on a permanent basis Any waivers in this thread can (probably) be considered valid. It is encouraged that you check these waivers regularly, especially before performing an action on a character normally restricted by a rule. I would like to ask that staff members kindly clean up any posts that are not directly waivers or revocations thereof, or otherwise direct staff rulings on this thread. I request that any discussion of this topic be made in a separate thread so that this one is not cluttered up and remains an easy reference source for players who would like to check who has waived protections so that there is absolute minimal interruption of RP flow. I suggest using the form below in a copypaste format to waive protections. The rules therein are the ones which, in my opinion, raise the fewest moral objections and can be safely waived without causing undue problems on an out-of-character level. Sometimes I'm okay for it, other times, not so much. I also added an amendum to the forced captivity one as I'd like the ability to RP with my captors and possibly escape said captivity. I'd rather be killed and dumped in the ocean then kept in a small hole with no RP from my captors. Finally I added chris suggestion as I have never had an issue with having my character perma-killed in a DM event. |

Yep, mine are conditional, because I have rp'd on servers where anything goes, and gotten screwed by it. For example I had a character that was imprisoned for a year, IRL time. Mostly because they couldn't perma my character, so this was the alternative to force me into quit playing my character. Which I do believe in perma, but I don't believe in griefing. But don't forget to set hostile so pvp can happen, and don't toggle hostile. If I crash, then please re-set hostile while my screen loads instead of ganking me while I'm trying to re-set hostile because you don't want to. It's not that I don't agree with indefinitely; it's just that if my character is imprisoned, know that I'm here to rp and have fun also. That means that if you plan to keep my characters in a cell then in order to perpetuate rp instead of destroying it, anything beyond 24 hours I require someone to be there to rp with me, such as a guard, or even if my character is getting tortured; I still want rp to continue. Alternatively I've had a character imprisoned on another server for a full year (IRL) before with no rp interaction (I'd just leave myself logged in and idle because I was always told she'd be released soon for the entire duration); which I believe is pretty clear at that point it was no longer IC, but ooc griefing because someone didn't 'like' my character. Since there was no reason for perma, then the next best thing was done. [x] The protection of "immortality" insofar as I allow DMs to permakill my characters in the interests of moving the story-arc of the server along. I like perma; on other servers players were more than aware when permadeath for their characters was coming up, so it was rarely a surprise to the player unless the player did something pretty stupid such as a lone necromancer trying to raid Kholingen. I think for any situation that would turn into a 'surprise you're permad" would require a list of scenarios that would mean instant perma; such as religious sacrafice--does this mean perma because rp wise it should, but ooc wise we all know it happens quite often. I reserve the right to request DM intervention if I feel any person is taking advantage of this waiver to abuse me in an OOC manner. I'm not going to follow the format either. Account: Troll On The Low Road Characters: All My characters can be perma-killed, attacked without warning (ad. but please, have a good reason, "you're pink" ain't good enough."), tortured, kidnapped and imprisoned (for as long as RP is provided, I'm not gonna sit in empty room on my own), etc etc, both by DM's/Players. What I do not allow, however, is coming back 5 minutes back after lost PvP. A PvP death is something that should be considered -serious- in outcome, not "Raise Dead, Buff up, Smash again." Keep in mind, it's all about RP, not about who rolls 1 vs Dev faster. |
