Does anybody have any clue as to why gnome model proportions are so out of whack? Did the folks at BioWare have any source material backup that said 'Yay, and thus the Gnomes were created, and their forearms were created twice as thick as their thighs'? It's hardly a pressing issue but it's something that's bothered me for a long while and I wondered if there was any real reason for it.

Personally I think its because they were lazy and shrank everything from big size without realising how odd it would make everything look. I have the same issue with some of the halflings as well. Gods help you if you try and make a fat one.

It's because Popeye was the genetic Adam for gnomekind.

Yeah, its pretty awful. And there is absolulety no reason for it whatsoever, as far as I'm aware. They look perfectly reasonable in the Players Handbook. Its just a bad model.

If you're as fussy as I am, you just have to get used to designing the look of your armour to hide how disproportionate they are. Something baggy on the bicep and a bare forearm works alright, that way you cant see the top of the arm shrinking. Robes/Coats/Skirts also work to a degree.

All player character models are the human models scaled differently. For whatever reason, Bioware chose to alter the bodyparts in some bizarre-ass ways. Gnomes have some funky proportions in the PnP books but nothing even approaching the freakish simian measurements from NwN. The same goes for female dwarves. Halflings got off easy.

I'd like the title of this thread to be changed.

Its traumatizing.

The two words should never be used in the same thought.

I don't think they looked freakish in the PNP books. I thought Female Dwarves looked horrendous in NWN, though... Why couldnt they make them like the PNP? I like the buff women >> *cough*

What's wrong with you people? I like gnomes because of the model. Much cooler than halfling. Gnomes are so misunderstood. :(

It's their noses. They hang around their necks like an albatross. And the idiots down at the old modelforge thought 'All the mass for these uberschnozzes has to come from somewhere!'

I played a yellow-skinned, fat gnome wizard who fought with a (two-handed) club. Coolest PC ever.

For all my Gnome slating, I find the race really cool. I've been struck by the urge to want to make a gnome veteran fighter/wizard character now.
