Is this widget able to be granted to feys, in the sidebar info it states any being with wings. I recall a few years ago someone told me feys cannot get this widget, thought that made sense since they are allowed by anyone to become (before they were request only). Does this still apply towards them, and if not just curious on why it wouldn't since they do have wings and are infact flying visualy.

Could you humor a potentially silly n00b question for a sec... why is the DM team so wary about the flight widget? I recall similarly emphatic responses in threads asking about winged-race rebuilds, and especially in a thread that went off on a tangent about the drow levitation ability. What's so bad about the flight widget?

The Flight Widget is a widget that grants a character an ability to get to otherwise barred off and restricted areas and can give a severely unfair advantange to said character and-or player. The same is for Shadowjump.

They aren't removing those that are in already, but they aren't adding any more, and are keeping it largely for those who actually have wings and go through the appropriate RP for it.

Fey don't fly as much as they hover. The manner in which they flap their wings means they move in the same way a fly would. Flies don't go high into the air or hover over large and deep chasms. They stick lower to the ground or higher up in trees if need be.

All of which can be RPed properly without the need for a flight widget. Fey generally can't fly higher than 12 feet, though I can't remember where I read that.

In any case, I've been playing fey for several years on Amia, and I don't think they need or deserve something like a flight widget. Even after they got platinummed.

Oh I agrea, I just brought this up when my fey was rping hovering out of reach of a person capturing him. Was more of a curiousty then a request for a change. Also making sure there isn't a issue with that rp I did in the past to hover out of reach.

Bah, that's tricky. It's something you could do ICly, but it's almost among the lines of godmodding, IMO. Like saying "No, you can't grab me, I'm not standing there any more."

If it were me trying to catch a fey that was hovering, I would have asked for something like rolling your Dex vs my Str. Vaguely, how fast you're beating your wings(and maintaining height) vs how high I can jump. Still a grapple check to see if I could grab you once I'm up there, however.

I do something like that on my fey. Personally, I don't see a problem with it as long as the other person has a chance to snatch you, i.e. :

Me: *hovers just out of reach*
Other: *tries to snatch the fey*
Me: //roll initiative

If they can grab me, they grab me... if not, they don't. Not really any different than trying to grab anyone, I suppose.
